I tried to look up the scion xA and xB and see what the crash ratings for both and heres what i found kinda and i thought it was kinda interesting.

Scion xB is considered a van and a station wagon?

Scion xA is considered a hatchback and a Compact Passenger Car?

I understand the rating for the xA but does anyone else find it funny that the xB is a station wagon?

I also heard Mini-SUV but does Scion have any official stance on the subject?

Well, USAA classifies it as a SUV, but most places and websites classify it as a wagon. The xA is concidered a hatchback by USAA, and pretty much everywhere else.

How is it that they classify it an Suv? Just because it is a box? Toyota says it is a wagon

It is classified as a SUV based off the first 3 letters of the VIN. It has the same letters as SUV's. Even though it has that insurance rates are not driven off the fact that they consider it an "SUV". The rates are based off drivetrain, # of cylinders, engine displacement, crash stats, and theft stats. That's most of the stuff at least. Other places mught call it other things but the VIN calls it an SUV.

My insurance company considers it a wagon. In turn, my insurance went down nearly $200.00 a year. :D

I am trying to figure out the logic of your statement. J= where produced, T= who produced, third digit on all toyota suvs built in Japan use an "E" to designate SUV.

USAA ? Who is that? just wanting to know. 8)

I use triple A and they classify the car as a wagon, so i got wagon rates. They couldn't look up the car by its name but when I gave them the vin , it said wagon.

USAA is an insurance company for Military personal and retirees of the military.

all wagons are hatchbacks. only four-door hatchs are wagons. a two door hatch back is a compact. the xB has four doors and a hatch, so it's a wagon. van are vans because they have sliding doors, so the xb is not a van.

sounds pretty simple to me.

It all depends on who is writing the policy now doesnt it. My insurance lables the xB as a Utility Vehicle, not a SUV, just an UV. I made sure to clarify this with my rep. My insurance only went up $100 from my Accent, to $1100 a year.
