Default Question about pure pricing and '05 vs. '06 xB

OK I am 90% sure that the xB is the right vehicle for me but I was wondering about a few things. Since it is already April would I be better off waiting until September when new model are typically introduced, to buy? I am thinking I should wait since there won't be a discount on the leftover '05 models since Scion doesn't really discount them.

A few advantages to waiting would be, a new model year so my new xB will be the latest model for a full year rather than 5 months. I kind of learned my lesson on this a few years ago when my wife bought a new vehicle in July which was only "new" for a few months before we took a hit on the depreciation. One other advantage would be that since I would be waiting I could put down a larger down payment which would reduce my payments or use the cash for upgrades.

Does anybody have any experience buying a last years model Scion when the new model year is arriving on the dealer's lot?

Thanks in advance for your replies

There haven't been any significant changes for the 05 from 04 IIRC.

If you can wait and don't need a new car, why not? If you need a ride now cause your other bucket is falling apart, I'd say go for the 05.

I don't think the yearly depreciation is solely based on when the new models come out. The way I see it, the difference of an older year model is offset by the fact that it doesn't have the average yearly mileage on it which is what most of that depreciation is based on.

What if they are so hot by then and especially if gas keeps spiking up, they might just raise the prices. I'd say a bird in the hand, I mean a Box in the hand...

I really didn't need another car until mid-August when my oldest daughter turns 16. But my dealer had several on the lot and my credit union still has 4.49% interest on new car loans. So the box became an early 45th birthday present to myself. I say go for it!!!

I would wait... better resale value, running changes to the car. Usually better to get the latest and greatest unless finances/cost offset the cost.

rumor has it 05 is the last year for the xb. something new to come for 06, t2b maybe. Its part of scion's sales strategy. Im suprised no one has said anything yet.

I think I will hold on a bit longer especially if I will only have to wait until July / August. If they do have '05 as the last model year I should still be able to pick one up here in Utah. Besides it may take that long to talk my wife into thinking they are not the quote "ugliest car on the road". One thing I have noticed is that some guys like them, some hate them but every woman I have asked loathes them. Oh well that is why it is for me and nobody else.

I think one thing to watch is that interest rates are on the rise.
But you never know what they will do.

That's a good argument for getting one. It repels women, she won't have to worry about you cruisin' for chicks...

It was confirmed in another thread around the time of the NY auto show (a few weeks ago) that '06 will be the last year for the xB, not '05. Don't fear!

I find it hard to believe 2005 will be the last year for the xB, given rising gas prices and their, increasing, popularity. I see more and more of these on the road daily.

with the xb being phased out will that hurt or help our resale value? not that im going to sell my box but I am just wondering if the selling power will stay strong.

If the projections of $2.75-$3.00 per gallon of gas by summer come true, I suspect that xB's will be in high demand. '05s will be sold and there will be a waiting list for '06s.

If you are going to get one and keep it... then don't wait. If you keep a car 5-6 years, the 1 yr model difference in value isn't much.

Where did you read that? If that is the case I may not be driving around my 15mpg gas guzzling hog much longer.

i think xB gets new model year this summer, I am not sure, but I think that's what they said when I asked about the iPod connector to my regional rep. I am 99% sure that he mentioned them considering the iPod hook up for xB in 06, which doesn't mean that they are definatly doing the iPod jack, but it does mean they are builind an 06 xB . .. .
