View Full Version : ReSale Value On The XB?

I am wondering what the resale value will be on this car? KBB.Com doesn't have it listed yet and I am curious b4 I buy it. Most Toyotas have a good resale value because they hold there value but most Toyotas are fairly expensive for a new one, this is not the case on the Xb being that the sticker is at 13,650 for base model. Does that mean with such a low price that it might not hold its value and may only sell for half of what was paid for it down the road? U can go out and buy a Huandi for $12K but end up losing like 4K just driving it off the lot.....

Has anyone checked on the resale value of the XB's?

I suspect that it will remain high for a few years, then the novelty will go away and they'll be a used dime a dozen, just like the pt cruiser. that's MY opinion. But being a toyota, the dime will be a nice shinny dime.

its hard to say now...cuz they might discontinue the xb in 2-3 years

As with any new car purchase, you loose value in it as you drive off the lot with it. Why would you be so conserned with re-sale value, when you dont have the car yet? If your not planning on having the car any great length of time, buy used.

if i was going to sell mine right now, what would be a fair price w/ 8k miles. not taking into consideration anything aftermarket.

I just look at a car as a form of investment. I wouldn't want to buy a car that will lose most of its value if considering selling it after its paid off.

I didn't mean to offend anyone if it came off like that.

Cars are NOT investments unless you're uber rich and can afford collector cars.
I understand you wanting a car with less depreciation than another, but cars cost money to operate and are worth less when you sell them - doesn't sound like an investment to me. The economy car that holds it's value best is probably the honda civic.
This car is also odd - probably limited production, "new" brand, new look. No telling what will happen.

Yeah, I wonder if the fact that it's not "badged" a Toyota will affect the resale value.
I hope not.

Where'd you find that price? The xB starts at around $14,100 for manual, the auto is around $14,965

quick question... did your father tell you that for sure? or is it something that you are assuming because he works at a toyota dealership. let me know, im curious. :?

He can get a cheaper price only because he can get the dealer price and not what they marked it up to make more money. If anything I will get the money off that it cost to have it brought into the dealership. I think they are charging like $400 or somthing for that.....

I am wondering this myself. Because when the 2005s hit - I am hoping I can pick up a used one for under 10k I just can't bring myself to buy new and take the $3000 hit for depreciation.

Although, if you look on eBay - right now - they seem to be getting good money. Probably because of the still limited availability. I suspect that will change soon though.

:?: and :? is exactly what i was thinkin and thats why i asked. there is no markup on these cars. drew or verone, correct me if im wrong. i think everybody is getting them for "dealer cost". the only thing you would be able to get at cost would be any accesories, and that is a pretty nice discount. . . if im wrong, and you do get a discount on your scion, i appologize. call me an ___ and call it a day.

I work for Scion, and I didn't get a discount. It's contrary to the pure pricing policy. I have to agree with Ryan though, if you do get one, feel free to call me a retard.

Maybe not badged on the ouside, but baged under the hood and ultimately that is what is important! That is where most of the value and quality lie, in the engine and trans. Without those its just a shell.

Exactly, I just hope the people who decide the "Book values" agree. :D

Check kbb or edmunds. Scions have an invoice price and an MSRP price, just like other cars. The only difference with Scions is that the dealer won't take less then the MSRP, a sweet deal if they happen to be in a competitive market.

OTOH, we didn't see the "additional markup" sticker that was common on other newly-introduced vehicles.

theres a $725 markup

yeah i was going to say - there's only 700 dollars of markup in these vehicles, from invoice to MSRP. and considering there is no holdback or other miscellaneous "fees" that exist in most other models, there is no room to work with in negotiating. That is why they offer a low price with a "no haggle" policy. Believe me you are getting a good deal on these cars at MSRP. They could have been released at over a grand more and no one would have noticed or cared.

I like that policy - negotiaing/haggling at the dealership is one of the most feared things out there - its a real pain in the a$$. Thanks to companies like scion and saturn for offering this to us!

On Dec. 10th, I crashed my Scion XB. Completely my fault. I'm an idiot (but not usually). It was just one of those things. My driving record otherwise is spotless.

Dec 15th - My car is deemed a "total loss" by the Mercury appraiser.

Dec. 20 - I'm notified that I will be receiving a check for market value of my XB with 18000 miles on it. Market value comes out to $15350! Thats without adjustments for tax, registration and my deductable (they're going to end up giving me more money). In direct comparison, the sticker on my XB with options was $16700. That means that my depreciation was only $1350! That's crazy!

The resale value of the XB has been phenomenal and in doing so has provided me the opportunity to purchase a new XB or other vehicle of my choice. Not to mention the collision protection. It being year end, there's tremendous incentive for some dealers to move their 2004 models off the lots (not Scion dealers).
I'm excited about the prospects out there and am strongly considering a replacement XB.

Yeah, thats exciting! Whats keeping our resale up is the fact that scion dosent advertice to old people (on ABC, CBS, ect...) and the fact that their not over produced!
