free oil change
WARNING: They will try to get you to buy extra services, such as, tire alignment, point checks, and so on...I believe that these are unnecessary for the first oil change...and if you do want all of that...get your free oil change then get the rest done at a different shop (Toyota charges a butt load) FYI...
i went in at 1000 and they just looked at me funny for a while. they tried to convince me that i don't need it changed till 5000. they gave up after a bit and did not try to upsell anything.

Most engine wear is going to occur within the first 1000 miles. While many will argue that "break in oil" is merely a bygone myth, I still believe (as do others) that manufacturers ship vehicles with a slightly thicker than normal oil to minimize this wear.
My box has 905 miles on it, and I'm hoping to make a 400 mile trip this weekend. If i'm able to make the trip, I will certainly change the oil before I leave.
On top of the 3 free oil changes, the Scion dealership I bought mine from and get it serviced at offers a free oil change every 5000 miles for me. So, that is quite a bit of free oil changes. I have about 15,000 miles on mine now and haven't yet to pay for an oil change. They notified me that I'll have to pay for my next one though.
As far as changing your oil after the first 1,000 miles, you can if you feel paranoid about your engine. The break-in period isn't going to wear out your oil quicker, so don't worry if you get your oil change at the scheduled 3,000 miles.
