View Full Version : TRD Exhaust Questions
DarthXB 04-22-2005, 08:06 PM I am looking for exhaust for my XB. I am trying to stay away from the buzzer ricer type of exhaust. Can anyone with the TRD Exhaust give me some feedback on it? I am mostly getting it because of looks/want something different from the factory, that does not make alot of noise especialy inside the car. If anyone has any better suggestions let me know. I am looking for mostly axle back. Thank you.

LavaBox_v1 04-23-2005, 10:40 PM Strup Performance Exhaust ... The tone is really nice! It has a nice hum when crusing at like 2500 - 3000 but its not loud inside the car. I had the TRD and now I have the Strup and there is not a big difference in tone but I think the performance is better with the Strup Exhaust. It also looks 10x's better then the TRD. My neighbor has a 2.0 xB and he has the DC sport exhaust. He took the baffle out and it sounds good. Does not sound like a ricer and you can here the damn thing come up the street. Nice low tone to it. Check it out, plus it would most likely be cheaper then the TRD. I have the TRD on my tC and I think it sounds awesome. Nice and throaty.
Might I recomend the PrecisionMuffler.com axle back. Deep in sound and fills in the cutt out in the bumper quite nicely. :D

iNFEktEd 04-26-2005, 11:41 PM i have the trd one, sounds good, not too loud. i only got it cuz i used my 50 giftcard w/perchase from www.newscionparts.com if you dont want a loud "fart can" type exhaust trd is a good choice.
jcs_xb 04-27-2005, 01:39 AM i have the trd exhaust...and its very quite...with a deap tone...and sometimes you might even forget that its there...hehehe...but if you want something quite and deep....trd is good to go...

The TRD is probably what you want for sound and looks. Here's some info on our site.

Mindcage133 04-28-2005, 09:46 PM I have the TRD on my Xa and I think it sounds awesome. Not ricey at all with the deeper throaty tone coupled with the K&N CAI. There may be other /cheaper alternatives though.

Karl_Hungus 04-29-2005, 12:05 AM I have the TRD on my xB. I like the tone alot, but on long trips, it tends to drone in the cabin (as do I!). Not horrible, but not exactly a camry sedan, particularly around 3000 RPM. In town it sounds purty nice.
To bring down other road noise in the cabin, I sound deadened the wheel wells, cargo floor, and rear doors (search on my name to see a thread on that), and now the exhaust sound is more a pleasant purr. Windows down, you still get full value. You could do this for any of the exhausts, and probably be happy.
FrankenScion 05-01-2005, 11:26 PM I have a used, but in excellent shape, TRD exhaust on ebay right now.

yoohoobox 02-12-2006, 11:29 PM I have TRD exhaust, very quiet in car but I've heard it robs horse power, considering your not going to get too much out of a 1.5 liter, it's great for a low tone solid sound. The strup exhaust is CONSIDERABLY better for performance, it sounds great BUT it's noticably louder than Trd or stock but not too loud. STRUP IS THE WAY TO GO![/i]
Emfdiablo 02-13-2006, 04:23 AM i got a trd on my modded xa, i wanted it because i hate the ricer ones, and the trd is not to noticble or loud. I find it perfect, and it does not rob power. I definatly feel more grunt...i recommend it
yoohoobox 02-13-2006, 11:10 PM yeah, I didn't know if it was a fact that TRD robbed hp, just something I heard, I got it from the factory, so I never drove my xb with stock exhaust, I didn't know. Know anything about Greddy?

:nails:
Wow first time I have heard this. Well what I do know about the TRD muffler is the sound quality. It has a nice tone under acceleration that tones out at steady speed. It does not however produce any real power gains. Does it rob power? Doubt it. Toyota rates it at a 1hp gain.
One thing I have noticed is over time as the packing compresses it does get a bit louder not much but a little bit. Good luck. I know I like mine.
was under my car getting ready to install my trd exhaust and noticed the black molding on the hangers, how do you take off the exhaust from these hangers?
Tim_Carr 09-25-2006, 02:21 AM screwdriver and wd-40. Spray the wd-40 on the rubber where the exhaust mount pokes through. Then stick the screwdriver through the hole along side the mount. pry lightly and pull on the exhaust and slide the rubber mount off. Good luck.
THANKS for the advice. i'm going to try again. the rubber hangers dont come off though do they?
the new exhaust will slide on the old black hangers? thanks again!

i moved it back and forth a little bit to loosen it up and used my thumbs to push the tip thru then just pulled it off
arizonaturbo 09-26-2006, 03:27 AM I have the Greddy SP2 exhaust on my RS3 and I love it. No raspy ricer sound. Nice deep throaty sound.
did you have to work on it for awhlie to get it off the hanger?
is it also easier to take off the bolt first from the exhaust?

just got done installing my Exhaust finally. once i got the stock exhaust of the hangers, i think it literally took me 30 seconds to put it on. hardest part was to take off the mushroom bolt from the hanger. biggest pita. hehe..
on a lighter note, the exhaust sounds good. thanks everyone for your help with advice and such! :)

It will get a little louder over the next week or so. I think you will be happy with it.
