Seriously as easy to install as the strut bar. You don't need a lift, but it helps on the bolts at the collector.
:)
pmpnxb 02-20-2004, 02:34 AM SWEET!!
DenZinz 02-20-2004, 02:38 AM awesome! So how does it feel??
superjeer 02-20-2004, 02:42 AM not carb leagal, right?
Munch 02-20-2004, 02:45 AM That looks nice. Reminds me of my old Neon :D .
DJ_X_Trodinaire 02-20-2004, 02:58 AM nice!
hnefrdo 02-20-2004, 03:00 AM that's the DC header? i thought the one DC made for scions are 4-2-1. the one in the pic looks like a 4-1
kdanie 02-20-2004, 03:10 AM Nobody makes a 4-2-1 header for a Scion yet, it would require moving the Cat further under the car to make room.
SocalbBox, did you happen to measure the exhaust port dia.?

oooh no I didn't. I could measure the stock exhaust manifold.
Exclusive 02-20-2004, 05:51 AM Looks Nice installed!
kdanie 02-20-2004, 03:14 PM SoCalBox, Thanks but not necessary, I know the stock header dia. The problem is all the aftermarket header builders used a gasket as a template (without measuring the port) to make the flange and the gasket has a 1 5/8" hole so they build their headers with 1 5/8" primary tubes-that is huge for this little engine.
I have a gasket so I guess I'll have to pop my stock header off and measure the port.

Flipper 02-20-2004, 03:46 PM Wait a second i thought the DC header wasn't going to be out for a while because of the AEM buy out where did you get it?
ShadowMage 02-20-2004, 04:02 PM sooooooo....when can we expect a dyno of the new header? :D I wanna see how this thing performs!
superjeer 02-20-2004, 04:15 PM This makes it so that now we can have someone with lots-o-cash upgrade the entire airpump part of the motor, from intake to tip. I'd like to see the numbers on that.. you think it would reach 115hp? maybe 100+ at the wheels? Naw, me either. You know though, it wasn't long ago that production 4cly bigger than this could only dream of making 100+ hp.. so it's not THAT bad. My 87 nova (corolla) was 1.8l.. or was it 1.6? anyway, 74bhp or was it 84? Anyway, I remember this... 42mpg!! The scion feels fast compared to that and my 95 contour.
I found my answer from above, according to some website this thing is carb legal.
squirrel 02-20-2004, 04:37 PM not carb leagal, right?
It IS CARB legal. I saw it at Exposed and it had the number on the header flange.

the motors horsepower per liter is pretty weak given its small size. I imagine this is because the ports and cam are optimized for gas mileage and decent low rpm power.
I bet some head porting and a big cam could work wonders.

it should make over 100 at the wheels.
Remember your 87 mobile wasn't FI.
2fixA 02-20-2004, 10:29 PM hell Stylis was making 100+ to the wheels with a cold air intake and his custom manifold back exhaust back at the Dyno Day at ModaCar in December... so with this thing and a proper intake and exhaust I would hope you can get more than 105, crossing my fingers..

it's 50 states legal
scionlife 02-21-2004, 01:25 AM Great, I got it added to the Scion Life gallery for all to see...

Should be available at the end of the month.

Every pony counts.
2fixA 02-21-2004, 03:14 PM damn straight... which is why I'm waiting to get more feedback/results from greenbean about what his xB is doing on the juice, but in the meantime some nice higher performance parts will do me just fine, thank you..
kidkamel 02-21-2004, 07:24 PM How much are the headers going for?
showpaojoe 02-21-2004, 07:56 PM $265

scionxb04 02-23-2004, 05:11 AM with the header in their i wish there was a way to get rid of the catalytic converter....any ideas about the 2nd o2 sensor? if i could get rid of my cat with no CEL i woulda already ordered the headers
jdaniels 02-23-2004, 02:40 PM Some questions on this header since I'm about to purchase it...
1) Can you feel a difference? How about hear a difference?
2) Would there be any gain with the stock exhaust?
3)How much do you torque the bolts on the head? On the collector?
4)Is it worth 200 bucks?
Thanks!!
Jon
kdanie 02-23-2004, 06:38 PM Scionxb04,
Modern Cats do not hurt performance and are required for the computer to work correctly-thus the 02 before and after the cat. There are also larger dia. high flow cats that would support much more power than these engines can make.
Look elsewhere for performance gains....

Well it was tested with an intake and only picked up 1-2hp which I can't feel. By itself I think it was close to 4 hp.
I'd say its worth the money.

You can simulate the second O2 reading and run a straight pipe, but I'd advise against it.
