Get a micro fiber towel, ans some very mild and dilute soappy water. Then mix some water and Murphys Oil Soap (2 or 3 parts water to one part Murphys). Spray the towel and wipe the dash. The biggest problem I have is lint from some towels. An old well washed microfiber towel works best.

the tC dash isn't meant to shine. If it were supposed to shine, it would have been that way when you bought it......

easiest way to clean it is a lightly damp micro-fiber cloth....my fiancee made the mistake of using armorall and I had to wash it all off......the dash is supposed to be dull.....it's not leather...or vinyl....

I use Meguires... Armorall IMO is the worst thing in the world for it. Meguires does not leave it all greasy and shiny. It makes it look nice and clean. And it is a lot better for the materials you use it on.

But they do leave a greasy residue.

I never liked the smell of dash protectants. IMO, they make you car smell old, kind of the opposite of what it should be doing.

A bit of soapy water plus a microfiber towel will do the trick.

But they still leave that oily residue, and over time are not the best for your dash unless you keep using them.

I agree, Armor-All will actuallt start to fade your dash/plastic over time and use of the product.

Go Jo can also clean your dash of that Armor All crap.

General information for young smart guys:

I recall when that Armor All came to market- over thirty years ago.

Armor all is a water-emulsion of silicone oil, primarily.

No maker of tires or auto interiors that I know about -recommends- Armor All or any such similar "protectant"

You bought the sizzle but did not get any steak

For a -really useful silicone product- see RainX. That came out about 1971, too, and is a fine product. Before RainX we used silicone auto polish that handled like the old "Glass Wax". Was easier to use than regular RainX.

But --- -sizzle sells more potatoes in retail than it seals honest steak!

Where do you prefer to spend your $$$, guys?

Just used armorall on my dash and it looked great...a little bit of shine and no greasy feel after a day, i feel my dash is more protected now. On another note, DON"T WASTE your money on armorall Extreme tire shine...used it on my tire and the shine lasted about an hour or so...but it does clean your tires, then again, i can clean my tires with something else...and Don't use armorall auto glass...it leaves way too many white streaks even when i wipe my windows with a microfiber window cloth.

Plain water! A damp microfiber towel can do wonders to your interior!

Murphys oil soap ( use as recommended above) and a nice clean sponge.

Armorall looks and smells like that because they use formaldehyde.

Not sure about you, but I don't dig breathing that crap in.

As stated, a damp Microfiber cloth is all it takes.

Ditto on the Armorall. I used it a week ago and it looks great. I didn't like my dash looking dull/dry. Just remember to wipe off the excess after applying it...leaving it on will result in a greasy nasty mess.

I agree on the smell. It smells more like a car smell than some petroleum or fruity smelling odor.

Alright, so Armor-all bad...

Which meguires product are you all talking about? Their NXT Tech Protect, or their Quick Interior Detailer?

Also, Armor-All is supposed to do more than just clean/shine, right? it's supposed to protect from...UV rays? and what else?

Do any of the suggested alternatives here (Mothers, Murphy's Oil Soap, Meguires, etc.) also provide this protection? is it even necessary? If not UV rays, what do we need to protect our dashes, plastics, etc. from?

(I just picked up my tC on Saturday. It's an 06 Nautical Blue.)

Our windshields and moonroof's have UV protected glass, so if no UV light is getting through there, why do you need to protect your dash from it? Skip the Armor-All, it does more harm than good.

Okay, so Armor-All for interiors is bad... the touchless carwash place I went to doesn't use it... But they do offer Armor-All treatments for the exterior (maybe is the wheels?). Is that stuff bad, too?

I reccomend Black Magic for the tires and Meguires on everything else.

Get a nice shiny silver dash protector to go in your windshield (or windscreen for all you brits). Axius makes a nice one. Heat alone apart from UV light will, over time, damage interior. That is for all of us who plan on keeping our car more than 5 years. The reflective silver mylar keep interior much, much cooler than if nothing at all and much cooler than non-mylar reflective screens.

That reminds me when I used to live in Denver, Co. I owned a 4x4 Toyota truck with vinyl interior. For two weeks straight in 1990 the temps didn't get above 10 degrees F for the high. One morning I scurried out to warm the truck up (do you know how cold vinyl is in the winter?) and as I sat down on the vinyl, the whole seat cracked like a crisp cracker. One big split down the middle due to the extendend cold snap. That's when I moved back home to San Diego; no girl is worth this! (I went to Denver for a girl.) :silly:

Yup. Now I have a remote start to warm up the car prior to driving, IN SAN DIEGO! The place where it is a novelty more than anything. I use it to startle people when I catch them looking inside. :P

I used to use clear guard which was great, but I ran out the other day ( had the bottle for 5+yrs) they don't make it anymore :tap: so I bought another turtle wax product some f21 spray??? it sucked, I bought the maguires and it works great on the leather and all the plastic trim :silly:

ok people. armorall is basically crack for your car. it'll look shiny and nice, but once you stop using it, your dash will look horirble. it dries and rots out the plastic/vinyl. trust me. the best thing to use is either meguiar's or mother's interior products. armorall is BAD news.

Jake_tC

oh yes one more thing, dashes are NOT meant to be shiny. it creates glare in the windshield and WILL hide objects on the road (and possibly pedestrians) that you would've been able to see otherwise. there's a reason why the dash came the way it did.
