Default Radar Detectors / buying / using / comments

yes i did do a search but after mindless looking still have not found what im looking for...i plan on getting a radar detector but im at a lost on what to get the few i was looking into are... the escort 8500 x50 red - you really cant see the blue as well as the red... and the valintine one.. i know the escort is cheeper and has few options that the valintine one dosent have but 400 bucks for that is a bit much... let me know if you guys have any suggestions or comments on the radar detectors...

oh yeah i need one beacuse i have 2 speeding tickets one for 107 in a 70 and the other for 105 in a 70 and yes im getting a box and ya pretty much cant go fast unless you have alot of space but i think i still need it

cheers

i drive a hour to work ,so i took a chance with a cobra, don't remember the model #,but it's the newest one that just came out ,it's the one that talks to u and has pop alert,so far it alerts me to cops all the time ,with plenty enough time to slow down, but i don't drive that fast to begin with,i think i paid 150-or 160,could be cheaper now ,i got it after christmas,i now a lot of people buy the $300 dollar brands but this works good

Default Valentine One

Valentine One is really the only way to go. Just remember you get what you pay for. Mine paid for itself in the first hour. Only problem is mounting in the XB is a bit difficult.

By the way, my main use for the box is commuting from Manhattan to the Catskills. In doing so I drive through the most policed area and I can honestly say the valentine one is the best.

Valentine one. worth the money. dont even think of getting something cheaper.

K40 electronics is cool too and very undectable to the eye. but to install it is a long and tiring process. (i installed many in BMW's) its nice too but almost twice as expensive as the Valentine one i think

I have the Valentine One, and I like it a lot. I think the arrows comein handy. If You dont want to spend that much money, I'd go for the Passport 8500 x50, which is hands down second only to the V1 maybe.

get the blue passport 8500 x50. bah to those that say the valentine is better. if you google "radar detector" and then read the first few pages about them it seems the passport 8500 x50 is the best out there now. I got the blue one (just installed it last night) and I have absolutely no trouble reading the display day or night.

The valentine is more sensitive than the x50. I bought both of the detectors, and used them at the same time during my daily drive. After about 2 weeks, I concluded that the V1 is better if you live in an area without a lot of radar interference, while the x50 would probably be better in a city. Both are overall good detectors.

It's cool that you did it, but why in the world would you spend $600 on two radar detectors?

You're crazy!

I think it was Motortrend that did a comparo between all the radar detectors, and they declared it a dead heat between the Valentine and the Passport

Both the companies have a policy where you can return their product within 30 days for a complete refund. I bough both of the products on my credit card, and then after I decided which one was best for me, I returned the x50, got the refund, and only had to pay for the V1 that I kept.

I heard that when cops use a radar gun on your car and you have a radar detector, they get some negative feedback as a result of it and might pull you over looking for a radar detector.

Buy a passport 8500 x50. In some tests that were conducted the x50 outperformed the V1 in a lot of areas. DOn't remember what site it was.

There was an article that talked about testing radar detectors at the same time and how it screws with the readings.

Your talking about the detector-detector. In some states having a radar detector is illegal. Not sure if its the V1 or x50, but one of them can not be picked up by the detector-detector.

This is true up to a point. There was a recent newer radar detector detector that gets them all and I don't believe has been defeated yet. Also whether there is POP detection or not on a radar detector if you're the lead car and/or the only car on the road the radar detector won't save you. Make sure there are other people on the road in front of you so you get the signal early. I have the Passport 8500 (before the X50) and I've detected cops that seemed around 2 miles away, but a week or so ago I wasn't thinking and got hit by moving radar (couldn't slow down someone was riding my ___).

The passport has an expert mode (if you decide on it) that will show you how many signals its detected and what band each of those signals is. So if you're driving by a known false source (wal-mart) you can see if there is a real radar gun around.

Quick question for you radar users (I've never had one)... do they detect cops that are just driving down the street? Is their radar always active to be able to pick up, or do the police switch them on and off? Sorry if this is a stupid Q, but like I said I've never owned a detector.

exactly. took the words right out of my mouth. The blue is sweet and very visible.

detector detection is foiled by VG2 stealthing. x50 has it.

The Escort 8500 X50 is the best. Not the V1. The Escort detects POP radar and the V1 doesn't. The Escort detects Ka bands farther away than the V1. The only thing that the V1 has on the Escort is arrows. I suggest the Escort. I've had for a year now and it pays for itself after the first couple weeks. Chea.
