Did you ask the dealer if you could buy the car without the floormats and save the hundred and something dollars.? I don't see why the dealer wouldn't accomodate that, since it's not like floormats are something that is installed or anything.

Floor mats come out in 30 seconds, tops. They just lay in place. Tell them you don't want them and let them sell them to the next sucker.

Spend that 100+ dollars on something that will last longer than the first oil change.

the floor mats aren't that bad. they wear out where the drivers feet go right away, but the rest of the mats are fine. i've had mine since the beginning of june and they still look like they did a week after i got them. i think they look good, although making your own is also fine to save money. i think the OEM floor mats are around $225.

its so hard to find the one i want...

it seriously has been a mission to find a dealer with one...

since they are supposed to get the black 5spd in within this week (hopefully)...

ill take the overpriced mats...

i cant go a month or more without a car since i already reported my saab as non operational... :( i miss my saab...

can i ask them to take the floormats out and deduct it from the total?

**how much did your scions come out to including tax (bare bones)?

My first car was a 1983 Saab 900 Turbo. I remeber when the tow truck took it away, but thats ok because now I have a Scion XB, and I couldn't be happier. I didn't get the flor mats either, I went to target and got some cheap ones for $13.00. And out the door I got mine for like 16,250 with the extended warranty. I am happy! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

No, you tell them to not put them in! All accessories are dealer-installed! The only things that are "from the port" are color and transmission.

My xB was around $15500 with tax. Trying to get a dealer to give you a firm final price is like pulling teeth. They will be happy to trade ballpark numbers and list prices all day but when it comes to the number that you will write on the check they are slipperier than an Enron executive dipped in butter. This was my experience at four different Scion dealers.

I got my Xb for either or close to invoice price. First lesson in business is that EVERYTHING is negotiable. Key is making your "opponent" believe that your proposal is giving him/her a good deal.

Good luck on getting your Xb. When you finally get it, it will be all worth it. I hated my Scion buying experience (better than buying Subaru). But, it was definitely worth it!

Well, then go to another dealer. Toyota dealers aren't exactly uncommon around here!

xB, with nothing but floor mats, including only government fees. (I didn't know better about the mats when I bought them).

take this advice from someone who has been through hell and back to get one of these cars.. toyota of orange had my deposit for my white xB manual for 3 weeks and failed to deliver.. i called around and found toyota of long beach had my car "coming in".. i got my deposit from orange and paid for the car at long beach to avoid the hike in registration.. it has been a week since i paid 7k down for the car and still no car.. it came in today after having been promised it would "be here for sure today", on wednesday, thursday, and friday. it got there today, but the back bumper wasnt installed.. they couldnt install it because they "only had 1 tech there", so im supposed to be able to get it tomorrow at 12...

bottom line is... it will take *at least* 2 weeks from the time it starts showing up on their lists.. ive been through this so i know.. just take my advice and dont be dissappointed when it keeps being delayed, have a backup mode of transportation if you want one that's not on the lot, and put a deposit down with no expectations on the car once they get a VIN number... hope this helps, i will never deal with toyota again after this, maybe used, but definately not their dealerships.. its sad

:!: I just wanted to say that Frontier Toyota, in Valencia, did a great job getting me my Xb. I also called every dealer south of Santa Barbra and in a week had 10 of them call me back saying they had what I wanted. Oh and no bull____ I didnt pay for my floormats or cargo net. That is standard, but they are trying to get you anyway. Good luck :!:

OTOH, Frontier tried to slip in a "documentation fee" in at the last minute after telling me more than once in the course of the transaction that they only charged the mandatory government fees. I suppose that they didn't expect me to catch it in the stack of paperwork.

They were nice as pie until then, but they blew the deal when they insisted upon charging that fee.

I bought one that was used for display at car shows, I bought it the day it came in. It pretty much had everything on it, which was good 'cause Im lazy like that. Hey! If you guys saw these cars at the car shows you'all probably sat your stinky butts in my car. ... Ok which one of you left their gum rapper in there!

Yes. The dealer is already making over $1000 profit on an xB, due to the fixed price policy. They don't need to tack on any extra fees.

When we purchased our xB it was a demo model that had a lot of the bells and whistles. Before we got financed they had us use the computer kiosk and input all of the features that were on the car to get a total price. When it came to the option of floormats our sales rep told us that they were standard with the vehicles and that they were not considered an option.

Maybe he was pulling our legs...we did have an awful experience with MAITA TOYOTA of Sacramento. What dealership requires 4 years of tax information to get you financed...you can buy a house with less info.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

There has been allot of guests asking for the floormats. Every car that I see in the port (on our allocation now and before) all have floormats. You are more then welcome to order one without mats. You just have to be patient. If a dealer knows that you have an order and your car is at the port......they can notify the port to take the mats off. If the car has already arrived at the dealership, they cannot take the mats off being that the mats are already billed into the car. I've done it before. At this time manual transmission xBs are limited. Before it was backwards and we had a limited supply of automatics. Wish you the best of luck. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM.

the documentation fee that i paid was for the finance lady to do the paperwork ... it is a government "allowed" fee

the floormats are't standard mats, they have hooks to keep them in place

I paid 19k for my xB and walked off the lot with it ... it has everything and had an asking price of 25k ... don't let that fixed pricing bs fool ya

sensez
10-11-2003, 03:34 PM
:?: so...

since its "allowed" by the government...

is it mandatory?

and if not...

can you dispute it or whats the deal with that?

I tried to order one from a dealer by my house and they said Scion dealers don't do that; that you have to take them as they come, including floor mats. So I went to another dealer in town, gave $300 down and they ordered me just what I wanted.
The moral: always get a second opinion.

:? I don't suppose you want to fly down to Houston to pick one up? My dealer took a week to get me my BSP 5spd, but gave me a BCP 5spd to drive for the week. 8) Then he through in a set of TYC tails......some promotion they were having. 8)

I waited a month for my BSP xB to arrive from Japan... to me that's the way to go if you have the time. If not, be patient, you'll find what you want.

Mine took 8 weeks to get here! And, that was after I got on my salesman to get on it! Remember, Scion has pure pricing--the pricing is NOT negotiable. The stupid documentation fee is variable however, it depends on your region. In Lafayette, IN I paid $69 for my documentation fee. However, when I was really desperate for my car and I looked around for another dealer with the car I wanted, I found outrageously large documentation fees. For example, in NC, the fee was $500 and in KY it was $600. When I spoke to the dealerships, they said that was NOT negotiable. I said thank you very much, but no thanks. Good luck.
