Default Why are people so one sided when it comes to the XB

Everyone i talk to either hate it or love it mostly hate. Is it because theres pretty much nothing else on the market to compare it to and it being just so different than anything out there. I also have a size question for you big fellas out there with an xb. I am 6'3" and in the car i have now i practicaly drive from the back seat. Seat pushed back as far as it can go and leaned back as if i was in a recliner. Im sure its not just me but i like to be comfortable when i drive. So ive seen the pictures of the inside but i just wanted an idea of how roomy the inside is as far as comfort and passengers space...........thanks

I have had a 6'8 guy inside the xB. He adjusted the seat to his comfort level then got in the back seat behind the driver's seat and still had legroom and head room.

Tons of room. :D :D :D I am 6'0" and I have tons of room inside. :D :D

I can't tell you why people like or dislike the car. I know I love it because there is nothing like it in america, but I will tell you the xB is roomier than my mothers mercury sable- with the driver seat all the way back it is easy for the passenger behind the driver to stretch out--- I'm 6'1 and I have yet to see a car this size have this much room inside you've truly got to drive one to appreciate it.

nm, just seen you from South Bend ;P... That's way up North, eh?

I'm about 75 mi. south of Indy, 60 mi. north of Louisville KY

Also, everyone around here loves the box... I get compliments from people constantly. No negative remarks yet, except for when I was cruising the other day, and stopped to talk to a friend.. Some 3rd grade boys came up and told me they had seen the box and how cool it was, but the girls in their class thought it was ugly... So it's going to be a real problem for me to go through with my plan about picking up 3rd grade girls. :?

To address your first question....

Some folks just don't understand smart design when they see it.

As to your second question....

I'm also 6'3", and the BACK seat is enormously roomy.
The front seat also has huge HEADroom.

HOWEVER......... it really needs a height adjustable or rake adjustable seat (like in our Infiniti G20) to avoid having all my weight sitting on my tailbone. My lower thighs are not touching the seat cushion, even with the seat ALL the way back.

If the front of the seats could simply elevate a few inches, both my wife & I would find it ideal.

when i test drove the car, i just moved the seat all the way back, and the steering wheel up and i fit pefectly fine.. and I'm 6'2.....

One thing I didn't check was... Does anyone know it the seat can be adjusted up and down..... height wise?

It goes foward and back and the back part lays down... but does the seat go up and down.. like.. to put someone higher up to see out the winshield?

the height adjustment on the seats is called phone books. also, for tall people, on any car made you can go to the places that do intstalls for wheelchair lifts in vans and for about $200 they can put a bracket in that will give you 6" more room. your Scion/Toyota dealer should have info in regards to this.

I'm 6'2 and I don't have a problem

Also, the xB is a very polarizing design, so it's not werid to see people having a "love it or hate it" likeness about the car.

The more they hate it the more I love it! It would be nice to have something unique for awhile. Trend setting!!!

Where I live its a farming area.So if its not a big expensive pickup its crap to them. But those Goat Ropers have to go pump to pump to keep the tank from going empty . That is something I dont miss haveing. They have a truck with four wheel drive and never go off the road. They wear cowboy hats but cant ride a horse. So dont expect everyone to like the XB it's all about what you prefer and not someone elses expectations. When the gas goes up to three dollars a gallon you will see them down at the Scion dealer to trade it those gas hogs for the unspeakable XB.

Default Tall

I'm 6'5" and fit fine in the drivers set. I can even pop in the back and sit behind a front seat pushed all the way back without problem.

It's a polarizing design, and unlike so many other cars, people don't have preconceived notions about it. They're not totaly sure what to think. You look at an Enzo, and even if you want to say that it's one of the ugliest cars ever set on earth you know it's a Ferrari and Ferraris are supposed to be beautiful, so it must be.

Most people haven't heard of Scion until they've seen it for the first time. And for those who have, and know it's from Toyota, the whole thing is even more confusing. Toyota's are supposed to be safe, boring, perfectly comfortable from a styling perspective, and the XB certainly isn't. Left to their own devices most people jump to extremes in their initial responses -- love or hate. I think once the XB has been out longer it will settle into a comfort zone -- a car with a very dedicated following, but not nearly as polarizing as it was at first. Then again, I'll probably be wrong.

I think the xB appeals more to those of us who think outside of the box. (pun intended) people don't know what to think because it doesn't fit nicely into the round holes they are used to, its a square peg to them. Lots of people ridiculed the Bug back in the day, but nobody's sold more of anything else. It's confusing to the Ford or GM driving, Budweiser drinking demographic. Its a car but not shaped like one. It's too small to be a van. It looks like a a compact SUV but without the 4x4 pretense. People just don't know what to call it to make it seem familiar. After a couple more years and the other carmakers futile attempts at copying it, you will hear people compare the new square cars to the trendsetter, the xB.
