Default What are the BEST coilovers, I dont konw what to get!!!

I have searched thru pages of threads for enlightenment, but it seems each of the different threads talk about just one brand.

So I want THE BEST coilovers for my situation, my tC is a daily driver in HOUSTON, and if ure from around here, you know our streets SUCK!!!

So what I want are FULLY ADJUSTABLE coilvers that i can use to ride a comfortably in this off-road environment daily and for shows, drop it to the ground.

Also, if you could include prices with the brand and name...

Ive been hearing alot about the Tein SS coilovers. what do you guys think?

The best without a doubt, (when they are released that is) are the H&R coilovers, which will run you $1650.

Although they don't make suspension for the TC yet, JIC hands down is the best suspension/exhaust company out there. Period. Coils for the Xb run i believe $1,650. So worth it though.

Otherwise, Tein. However, for springs, Tanabe hands down.

JIC is a joke. They've been having huge problems with the coatings on their springs flaking off and the springs rusting.

you can also get the EDFC for tein which enables you to adjust the height of your car right in your finger =)...just like an air ride suspension system.

The EDFC does NOT adjust the Height........EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller) makes it possible for the driver to control the damping force by controlling a motor installed in the shock absorber while being seated in the driver's seat. Since the damping force can be manually controlled with ease to meet different situations, the driver can enjoy variations in the suspension setting.

^^ true. you have to take off the wheels to adjust the height.

Have you bought them from from tire rack? Because when I called H&R about them 2 weeks ago, they said that hadn't been released yet. If you would take a look at their website, you would see that it says the coilovers for our car have the release date TBA. Just because an item is listed on a website as for sale doesn't mean that the company actualy has the product ready to ship to you.

sounds good, but good usually means pricy man o man i dont know where to stop!!! i have TRD springs right now, i wanted it lower so the stechs, if i was getting s techs then i need good struts, might as well get coilovers, now that i want coilovers in houston, they gotta be fully adjustable, now that they are fully adjustable, a dampner would also be nice, and now a motorized one at my finger tips!!! it has gone from $135 tein s techs to like $1500, where do i stop?!?!?!!?

If you plan on serious autocrossing, doing some drag racing, maybe track days on road race courses and a daily driver you want adjustable shock valving. Our last project car saw all but road course duty but it was in the future plans, our current project car will see all the above so we picked what could be tuned for the events properly. Tein SS with the pillow ball mounts so we can adjust the camber and more positive control of the movement of the shock itself.

1) Drag race settins we found the best, full stiff shocks up front, around mid or stiffer in the back on the shocks, camber at zero up front, ride height in back higher than the front, toed in about 1/4"(wheels want to toe out during hard acceration on a drag strip)The last one we were not yet satisfied with, would of tried other toe settings.
TRD sway bar, not much of an issue

2) Autocross(settings can vary a bit with air temp, track surface, etc) mid setting up front on the shocks, full stiff in the rear, front camber at -3.5 degrees, toe slightly out to facilitate faster turn in, more so on tighter tracks, helps toss the car around cones on sloloms a bit as well. TRD sway bar, disconnected! A bit slower in sloloms but much more grip out of corners (250WHP turbo kicking in hard, wide race tires)

3)Road course, speculation here, about like above but a bit stiffer up front on the shocks, maybe 2.5 degrees camber, toe about neutral, stiff setting on front sway bar.

4)Street, 1.5 negative camber up front, shocks front and rear mid settings, stiff front bar. slight negative toe in.

_____________________________

I generally ran the ride height 1/2 or so lower up front for all situations, will try even more settings on the tC.

Will have the SSs again as the best overall for our needs at this time.

Hotchkis swaws and rear camber kit are going into the mix, rear camber and sway bar will be adjusted as we learn to tune the suspension for various events.

We will deffinately be running far stiffer rear springs than the SS's will come with, probably twice the rate or more.

____________________________

NOTICE::::!!!!

If you change the camber even a little bit it changes the toe in alot.

If you change the ride height it will usually change the toe in as well.

I will write up a method to check and adjust the toe in in another thread later on

What we do is not the only way to tune suspension, just what works for us and there are those around that are better than we are, not many though

I will depend on Wes at Hotchkis for as much guidance as we need, he does own thier project tC;)

do you need a camber kit when you get coilovers (tein ss)? or what else is needed with tein ss?
