Mac Mini is about $500. Would be easy enough to install. Then you just need a monitor.

i already built my own 7" touchscreen monitor that fits in a 1 DIN case, comes out and folds up. its very sexy. The mac mini looks interesting, but its MAC. i realy dont want a MAC in my nice new car. Id rather build a nice 1.2ghz box with a mini-itx motherboard and dc-dc converter myself and be able to feel some pride in what i have There are some very nice frontends for car computers as well for the PC. not so much the mac

Uh-oh here comes the ol' PC vs. Mac flamewar...

Just so you know you can hook up any monitor setup to the Mac Mini.

I don't care who makes the equipment.

PC's are so easy to put together now that unless you're actually soldering circuits, it's just a lego kit and not really much better then a mac mini.

It's just parts. _____ing about the OS, at this point, is kinda stupid. All the apps you could want in a car will run on either. The mini would be plenty fast, and have more then enough space, for anything a carputer needs.

This isn't a matter of which is a better OS, but which is more affordable, looks better and is more reliable.

I've never owned a mac. But that's just because I've not needed one. So I'm not a mac fanatic. But _____ing about an OS is like complaining about the type of screwdriver you need to use. It's a just a tool.

Which is why I brought it up. It's a fairly cheap, reliable, way to get a computer in your car.

And it looks pretty decent and would be easy to paint up. Also, it'll fit just about any place you want it.

Like I said, cost/reliability/cosmetics. Those are the important parts for something like this. If it costs more then you can afford, it's useless. If it's always broke, it's useless. And if you won't show it off, why have it?

im not flaming mac, i just wouldnt feel right with a premade self contained computer in the car. I wouldnt feel like "I made this" The mac mini could be great for some people, its a nice little selfcontained box with more than enough to play DVD's, MP3s, and GPS, but i wouldnt feel comfortable with it. I like to tinker. I am going to have a linux/windows duel boot setup in the car till i choose which one i like best. Many more distros of linux run on x86 hardware than on mac. I know of only 2 that run on mac and it was a _____ to get tem on that old clunky imac monitor box thing.
