Hey guys.....Here's the deal....

I have a Kenwod KDC-X879 Head Unit.... It is connected to 2 amplifiers, a Fosgate 301s and 501s. The 301s is connected to my front JL VR650-CSi components. On the head unit, when I change the "System Q" center frequency for the treble to 10.0kHz(the lowest center frequency) there is a "pop" or "tick" noise.... it doesn't happen EVERY time, just most of the time....just wondering if anyone has ever had this problem or something similar.....

side note:
The head unit did this in my other car with different components ran straight from the HU..... also, a previous Kenwood HU that I had did this, but it had a lot of interference in the signal cables......

I have a loud pop whenever i turn on the car. I'm guessing its from the build up in power from my capacitor, but I'm not sure. I'll let you know what I find out.

sounds like the chip responsible for changing the frequencies inside the HU is noticing the voltage change and the amplifier is picking this up giving you an audible "click" or "pop"..

sounds like Kenwood isn't isolating their circuits on their mainboards inside the HU.. And other circuits are picking this function up and sending it out for you to hear it.. not a clean way to design an audio signal circuit! It should be isolated from all voltage changes, but looks like Kenwood didn't do this

Chances are if it's happened with other Kenwoods it's their design approach. If you end up not liking it, only thing to do is change brands of HU..

check to see if any of the rca ends are touching and if they are, then wrap them in electrical tape. They might also be grounding out on something under the dash, another reason to wrap them. This solved my problems. Another thing to make sure of is that you are tapping into the correct wire for amp turn on lead.

I believe you're assuming correctly.....it's getting a power surge when it's told by the remote wire to pull 12+ from the batt.....there are some amps(kenwood maybe?) that have a protection for the turn on pop.......

Your answer seems the most logical.....what I don't know, is why would there be a voltage change when all I'm doing is adjusting a crossover????

I know it has nothing to do with my wiring.....

I've dealt with it for 4 years now, I love Kenwood HU's......I used to run Alpines but the Kenwood gave me better subwoofer response....maybe I'll switch back......
