Default Blue Gauges (PICS)

I know a couple of people have posted pics of theirs, but I just love the way they turn out.. so here are mine. I did them today after work, took a couple of hours total including a couple of beer breaks They go great with my blue LED kit.

It takes 14 of them to do everything I did. Taking the gauge cluster out is super easy. you just pull the trim ring out, take the one screw out of the guage cluster and pull it out, then unplug the connector.

and here I was waiting on you to do it You're right, the pictures dont even do them justice, they are great to look at. So have you done anything new on yours ? Last time I saw it on here I think you had done the engine compartment, the gauges and the screens I believe.

That looks great!
That is the ONE thing I miss about my Beetle, those gauges were so cool.
I've been dying to do that to mine, but other post of how complicated it is have made me afraid. Any advice on dealing with the needles and dealing with putting on the leds that I should be prepared for?

I've been busy working with wood and fiberglass for the subs and amps case in the back.....This stuff sucks to work with and get looking good

Yea, those blue power top LED's are simply sweet. Looks good in a pic, but in person they are stunning. By far the best mod to enjoy for the price.

Well, someone is going to have to tackle the center, hopefully in the next week or so, I'll take it apart and see if I can make some voltage measurements and maybe make a small change in resistance to get a voltage bump but not blow the board

It's not nearly as difficult as it appears. Just take your time and expect to spend about 3 hours doing it right. These instructions are great. However, order the LED's engifineer listed on here. It doesn't get any better than those LED's. Oh yea, a pair of tweezers will really make life easier

Yep, taking it apart is pretty easy. One thing I will advise about taking it apart is to remove the board from the LCD (odometer readout) not the other way around. You can pull the board off of the white plastic trim from the backside, and simply keep your hand over the LCD so you dont drop it. This will prevent you from cracking it while pulling it out. As ScionDad mentioned (and thanks for the info on the LEDS) these are about the best LEDs you can find for it. All the others I found are 200 mcd or less (much less intensity). They are about $1.30 a peice from the website we listed above.

I have created a post with some soldering tips and info that may help some people who want to perfom these mods.
