Arg. I went outside during work today to my car and I saw a two foot long scratch above my rear driver's wheel! Arg! I think I know who did it but I have no proof.

I called my dealership and they wanted $1200 or so to fix it, haha. That's crazy. I guess I can check with a local bodyshop and see what they want. But my question is, what's the best way to fix it? It isn't very deep at all. Is there something I can buy that I can buff it out with myself? Or should I bring it to a bodyshop? And how much do you think it would run?

If the scratch isn't that deep you can try meguiars scratch-x

the general rule of thumb is that if the scratch catches your fingernail, then the surface needs to be repainted :(

It works at first but then after a few days it will go back to normal. What LED-Maniac said is right...insurance time.

I am pretty sure the meguires wont work. It barely worked for my baby scratch. Theres very little what you can do. I dont think u can even claim this to your insurance as a "hit n run."

meguiers wont work or any scratch remower what so ever. You need to get that repainted. My car got keyed and i got 1188 worth of damage. I needed it repainted. My insurance convered it though under vandalism !

How about touch up paint? I think scion has some for the scion colors. I'm sure a lot of people might say that wont work, but i think it's worth a try before dropping 1200 to repaint it.

You may be able to fix this problem. It all depends on how deep the key scratch is. If the scratch is all the way threw the clear coat you may need the body panel repainted. If it isn't threw the clear you may be able to have it buffed out by a body shop, or if you know someone into auto detailing they may have the tools needed to correct it. Anything is worth a try before repainting. Best of luck and I wish people had more respect some times!!

By the way, sorry about your key job. I will cast a bad karma spell on that worthless waste of resources.

I agree, try anything before the entire repaint. I dont see why people have such disrespect for anothers property some people are just too immature to talk things over so they get there justification out on doing dumb things like keying someones car.

i know a way...find the bastard and smash his face against it and ask him if he can see what he did. then with a barrel down his mouth ask him for the pin number to his atm card so he can kindly pay for it himself.

That's what I'm talking about. Some justice up in the SL. I'd be a little more realistic and put a Machete to his wrist. In my neighborhood awhile ago, someone got their hands cut off for being bad. :gun:

The scatch does catch my fingernail in part of it. So you guys are saying scratch x doesnt really work? Is there anything else that can be used to buff it out or does it need to be repainted?
And my insurance company can cover it under vandalism too so i just pay my deductible. But thats still 500. Would a body shop charge less than a dealer to fix it?

maybe, but probably not less than the $500 deductible.

Try NuFinish Scracth Doctor only like $10 and nothing but great feed back from the customers if that doesnt work, try Turtle wax polishing compound its white with a green label, like $8 said to work by customers, and from experience had a scratch on my passenger door and it took the scratch right out, and then just use some wax and buff it you should be fine

You can always wet sand it. I tried Scratch X and another brand of scratch remover and Scratch X didn't do anything and the other one helped but not enough for my tastes. I have been told by two different people in the car care business to wet sand the scratch using 2500 grit followed up with 4000 grit paper. I am going to try this soon. Haven't had the chance to go to a body/paint shop to pick up the paper.

The Scratch X didn't work. At all. I don't even think it got rid of the very light scratches I have from the automatic car wash. Grr

you should go to your insurance, get a whole new paint job

Yes automatic washes suck, but if they are touchless they are ok
