View Full Version : what kind of polish do u guys use?
Heliotropic 05-11-2005, 05:17 PM I'm going to put the first coat of polish on my baby this weekend and was wondering what u guys use? I have already purchased the mothers clay bar kit (to remove contaminants from the paint). I thought about using the new mcguire's polish (one step above the gold class), but I'm open for suggestions.
LED-Maniac 05-11-2005, 05:32 PM I have heard alot of good things about their nxt egenration tech wax
sciontc_mich 05-11-2005, 06:23 PM the meguairs nxt wax was decent but for my liking I preferred Meguair's Gold Class wax.. to me it provides a deeper shine. Takes more work than the Nxt wax but i like the gold class, the more you buff the deeper the shine gets!
TeamMightyMiniz 05-11-2005, 06:43 PM gold class and pro
Lonely_Raven 05-11-2005, 06:48 PM Don't mix a POLISH and a WAX up!!
Polish is for polishing out scratches, a Wax is a protective
coating!!
SCIONLI 05-11-2005, 06:55 PM Nothin beats Mothers wax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have an 1987 cutlass 442 which is for sale :) that till this day people think i had a new paint job done to it cause my dad and then i took over and waxed it with mothers wax since day one.

That pic was only halfway thru the process, as well. I added one more coat of Klasse SG and the S100, it's even deeper looking now.
thescone 05-11-2005, 07:35 PM Zaino.........................nothing else comes close.
rolstc 05-11-2005, 07:41 PM mmm ... me no likey polish sausages. "some" of the chics are ok, even some with the hair still underneath the armpits (damn euros).. i have a funny story about that, that is true. but i dont wanna get into it.
Oh and yea i know you mean polish as in wax... but when i first read it i thought like polish as in the heritage... LONG LIVE THE POPE .. :)
Lonely_Raven 05-11-2005, 07:55 PM Zaino.........................nothing else comes close.
One of the guys at work just read an article that said Zaino was made by
Turtle Wax!! I can't say if that's true or not, sounds odd though. I'm hoping he can
find the article again.
thescone 05-11-2005, 08:08 PM If it is, it still is good stuff. I got a kit and it seems that some guy is making it in his garage. Photocopied instructions and cheesy labels on the bottles. But it works better than anything else.

The BEST.
619AKIRA619 05-11-2005, 08:16 PM i use the meguires tech wax. it shines up pretty good. and i use the meguire detailing spray after i finish waxing the car to add a bit more shine.
jaydub 05-11-2005, 08:16 PM Zaino.........................nothig else comes close.
Actually, at risk of rehashing this, many things come close. The detailing community at large generally does not consider Zaino to be the be-all, end-all of car detailing.

EXCELLENT stuff, though I'd suggest picking up the S100 @ a harley davidson dealership. It's the same thing, relabeled and half as much.
unlimited77 05-11-2005, 08:25 PM Wait i am confused since he was asking for polish not wax O_O
nxt tech was is a good wax and sealer, but it ddoesnt remove scratches.
I was also wondering which polish to buy for my tc since its covered with scratches?
Something that will work good witht the nxt tech since thats what i like to use.
sciontc_mich 05-11-2005, 09:05 PM well for those light scratches you might try meguairs Scratch X.. scratch remover.. a polisher is just to add a lustre to the shine because of age, it usually is added later on during the cars life.. that's how i've used it anyway..
The_Instigator 05-11-2005, 09:12 PM For polish, I use 3M scratch and swirl remover..there is a dark and light color formula. This woud be applied with my Porter Cable DA Buffer. Then followed with several coats of zaino. Zaino is labeled as a polish even though it really is more of a sealant.
This is what you get when they all add up:

Tc808 05-11-2005, 09:30 PM For polish I like Meg's DACP. If you meant wax, I use Pinnacle Souveran.
Harmonic_tC 05-11-2005, 09:53 PM 3M makes a great polish. i beleive they make a sealant wax as well
The_Instigator 05-11-2005, 09:59 PM I use the 3M liquid wax when I am detailing for a customer...unless they pay extra for zaino. It is also a great product. Much like zaino it is more of a synthetic sealant than a wax. It last longer than most waxes and gives a great finish. Easy to work with too.
rolstc 05-11-2005, 10:03 PM what does polish and wax do ?? just makes it more shiny ?? and more protective ??
xnevergiveinx 05-11-2005, 10:59 PM i clay bar it, then use klasse all in one sealant, then apply 2 layers of nxt tech wax, then s100 wax

Toasterbox05 05-11-2005, 11:19 PM i use liquid glass on my box, and it works great,. it adds a rock hard non yellowing permanent shell to you paint the more you use the more you paint is protected it is alittle pricy, but it worth every penny of it
AZNb0i47 05-11-2005, 11:41 PM zymol..nothing else

atticdog 05-26-2005, 02:12 AM polishing can remove swirls and scratches and add depth but no protection
sealants and waxes add a durable protective layer over your polished surface
