Default TRD exhaust is just cosmetic or really helps on power?

I'm thinking putting in the K&N, but exhaust I have no idea. Really like TRD, but it looks so much alike the stock one. Just wonder whether the TRD really gives more power?

yeah, it's just cosmetic.

if you're planning on getting any header, do not get the TRD exhaust, it sounds terrible.

Just be careful which exhaust you get so that you don't end up shooting grapefruits out the back of your car...

The TRD exhaust sounds pretty good. Makes the tC sound more like a Subaru boxer four-cylinder (which is to say a little lumpy and slightly mean.) The tC motor defintely has a distinctive sound to it, and the TRD exhaust makes it a little more noticable.

I still have the stock exhaust as the power gains from the TRD and other exhausts really don't amount to much.

i've got the trd exhaust and love it. my friends say it makes my FM tC sound like a real bad @$$. the gains you get from other exhausts hardly register on the butt dyno.
My advice is to get the TRD. Don't sacrifice a crappy sounding car for 5 HP you can't feel.
You'll be happier than Angelina Jolie at a lipstick sale...or something like that.
PM me if you want vids with sound.

HKS system is your best bet right now for the Tc..unless you obviously go custom.

TRD is strictly cosmetic, it does sound pretty good though. Sounding good doesn't justify spending close to $350-$400. If you have that money to spend, just go with HKS...IMO.

Good luck.

the look is popular. A lot of HKS and Jic exhaust systems are angled because both are based out of Japan. The look is real popular overseas, especially with drifters.

Some like it, some hate it. But nevertheless, its a great system.

c'mon turbo, sounds like stock? uh-huh.
its cool you've been into import tuning so long, I'm 25 and this is the first car I've owned that i'd even wanna modify. I'm sure my trip to gingerman raceway, MI in 2 weeks will prove this to be a great hobby.

anyone know the verdict of whether borla made the trd exhaust? i know it's been hammered to death in plenty of forums, just not sure if we have a concrete answer.

My girlfiend has the TRD on her TC and I have the Borla on mine, I can tell you that they are not even close in appearance or sound. I would be very suprised if they were both made by borla. The borla came with a high flow air filter and the TRD didn't.

No way in h3ll it sounds stock....get your facts straight before posting garbage. Oh wait, you probably picked up one of those coffee cans from your local muffler dealer and thought it would "look cool" on your car.

I have the TRD Exhaust. Two things up front. This exhaust sounds excellent IMO, not ricey sounding at all. Also it does add a little HP, not as much as a catback system, but dont expect to be able to feel any difference because of 5 HP....you cant. I would love to have a full cat back exhaust system that costs between $550 to $750 but most of us dont have that much money to throw away on just the exhaust. If you like the angled look, go with HKS, if you want an exhaust that looks like it belongs on this car, get the TRD.

Just to keep in mind, this is in MY opinion, others may and will vary.

K&N CAI, header, and stock exhaust sounds nice IMO. i'm waiting until the magnaflow full catback system comes out for the tC, it shouldn't be more then $550

i'm not sure what happened to them though.. hmm.

CAI, header, exhaust combos i've heard sound like wretched excess. Mind you, there is always a place for that. I'm not comfortable driving something so loud.
