View Full Version : does everybodys car ride like crap with 2" drop and 18' ONE_HOT_BOX 02-25-2004, 05:27 AM i have sprint 2" drop springs and 215/35/18's and the ride is pretty rough. i expected that of course, but i just wondered if everyone gets thet, or if i have extrodinarily rough riding springs?? GruntStyle 02-25-2004, 05:43 AM i rode in the xb docsnuff borrowed from the dealer, and it had the spy springs, great ride the only time it was bouncy or even ruff was when we would go over those stupid divits in the hyway! other than that awesome ride. boxzila 02-25-2004, 07:08 AM We have Sprint springs and the ride is a little stiff. However, the only thing I have to compare it to is the stock ride. All in all it isn't that bad in my opinion, I have definite felt worse. Vicki scionxb04 02-25-2004, 09:46 AM my tein s tech's are softer then the stock springs i pulled off....i could compress the tein springs much more with my weight......the stock springs were super stiff in comparison....my ride is much smoother....bumps are not as sharp... Can those springs be used without lowering the car? Sean JDMxB 02-25-2004, 12:57 PM My SPY springs rode better than stock with my 215/35/18s. DJ_X_Trodinaire 02-25-2004, 12:58 PM Can those springs be used without lowering the car? Sean technically most aftermarket springs are lowering springs scionxb04 02-25-2004, 08:40 PM my tein s tech's are softer then the stock springs i pulled off....i could compress the tein springs much more with my weight......the stock springs were super stiff in comparison....my ride is much smoother....bumps are not as sharp... Can those springs be used without lowering the car? Sean lowering the car is one of the things that improves the ride......the tein's are a 1.7 front 1.5 rear drop....very even gap around the tire....im running 215/35/18's 45mm offset...tein also has another spring which is a very minial drop...think its was only a inch....if your tryin not to lower it much and improve the ride... Cameron 02-25-2004, 08:47 PM I saw the Tein's on ebay for $150 shipped. What a deal, what a bargain 8) Opr8r 02-25-2004, 09:06 PM According to the recent bB bible Volume 2, lowering the car anymore than 30 millimeters (appx 1.1") will cause you to lose ride quality. A high-quality coilover setup with dampening adjustment might be something to look into. Peace, m@ ONE_HOT_BOX 02-25-2004, 09:21 PM it just seems really harsh to me, but its probably mostly the tires. LVXB 02-25-2004, 09:30 PM i think the tein Htech (bronze not green like usual tein) drop LESS than an inch. if your interested in softer ride minimal drop. silkywilson 02-25-2004, 09:31 PM 2" Goldlines, 215/35/18's on 18X7.5s with 42 offset... the Goldlines made my car drive %110 smoother, better ride quality, less bouncyness, but i do seel the turtles (Road Reflectors) due to the 35 series tires.. otherwise the ride is way way improved over stock.. and Scion SPecialtys in Vegas Is the man to get Goldlines from.. ScionVan 02-26-2004, 12:05 AM I would suggest everyone who's lowered their car to take a ride in the back seat sometime. Have a friend drive your car and sit in the back while it goes over some rough terrain. You'll see that the ride in the back on a lowered Scion is sometimes extraordinarily bad. 55mm is probably the exact limit of how much you'd want to lower a Scion with its stock struts/shocks before the ride quality becomes too poor in the front as well as the back. Of course, running larger wheels with low-profile tires also leads to a harsher ride, too.. so you gotta find the compromise between how you want to set up your suspension, and what size wheels/tires you want to run, all while taking into account how you want the car to ride. Chrno 02-26-2004, 04:44 AM thinner the tire the more rough it gets.. yokohamas are pretty smooth n quiet... mite wanna check into those, dunloop sports are good, bridgstone potenzas are good too.. costco sells potenza's if ur on a budget i got my tires there for mah celica before came otu to be 3 billz for all 4 JDMxB 02-26-2004, 04:52 AM I would suggest everyone who's lowered their car to take a ride in the back seat sometime. I can attest to the rear seating to be very bumpy when I had just springs in...of course, now they are fine, but with just springs, the rear is extremely uncomfortable! Chrno 02-26-2004, 06:14 AM not really.. mine was smooth. still rolling on stocks haha :D Besk_one 02-26-2004, 06:18 AM i don't mind the way my car rides on Tanabe DF 210's - even with 215/35/18 tires. i thought it would really suck ___, but i was nicely supprised after the drop, and then even when i put the 18's on! and van, ya the back seat is a kidney buster with any of the springs! scionxb04 02-27-2004, 02:03 AM http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33582&item=2461688620 tein H tech.....minimal drop...improved ride quality.... Rayman 02-27-2004, 10:49 PM Tein springs sound good but the warranty seems lame. 1 year? randode 02-27-2004, 11:20 PM Sprint springs are probably the worst ones out there. Some Goldlines, Eibachs, or Spys would be a better chioce. IMO 20 Scion spring installs to date, (with 2 more scheduled tonight) UrbanDrum 02-27-2004, 11:32 PM Sprint springs are probably the worst ones out there. Well. You are taking a tiny car with a short wheelbase that comes with a stiff suspension and rides pretty low. Then you lower it 2" more and put gigantic wheels on it with about 1/100 of an inch of rubber between the road and your rims. Hmmm..... It depends on what your goal is here. If it's bling-bling and you must have the drop and the giant wheels then you will have to deal with the consequences of totally impractial modifications to your car. If your goal is handling and performance, then you ought to consider something closer to a 1" drop or honestly just leave it alone. Either way, add a thicker rear sway bar, but leave the front sway alone. Try 16" or at the VERY most 17" wheels with 205 width ultra high performance tires. That is a practical set up for good handling and control and it won't ruin the suspension geometry and make it ride like crap.. ONE_HOT_BOX 03-09-2004, 07:33 PM naw..... I think ill just stick with the bling bling route. i just wondered if everyone elses was the same, it doesnt bother me that much. |
