Default Cold Air induction kit: Worth it?

I'm looking to buy an XB real soon. As I was test driving it, i kinda noticed it didn't have any amazing pick up, but i understand since it's an echo engine. Will the cold air induction kit fix this, and by how much? What are my other options?

thanks

108 HP + 2395 lbs (2450 if auto) = lackluster performance. A CAI is going to give you minimal gains. If you are looking for something fast I would not buy an xB. Not knocking it, just stating the facts. Just don't want you to be disappointed...I am actually very happy going from a 02 Civic Si (160 HP, 2782 lbs) to the xB. I drive much more sanely in the xB.

Yeah, not much power gains. Only difference I think is the sound from the intake, especially when going up hills. Maybe the TC is better suited for you?

A civic si may be "speedy" compared to a xb but it's not a fast car by any means.

Actually, one of the reasons I like the xB is that I don't feel I have to drive it aggressively...based on its styling it looks like a "friendly" vehicle. So, I'm more likely to be courteous..let people merge in front of me (especially the attractive gals who wave at you for being nice!). Our other vehicle which is a turbocharged Saab wagon has a totally different feel...like it wantsto go fast! Actually, I enjoy driving the xB more as does my wife. The Saab is used for long trips mainly. Most of the mileage is being put on the xB...

I'm definately not a speedy driver. It's just nice to know the power is there when you need it. The area I drive around has a lot of hills, so i wanted to be sure it would make it. and in LA, you never know when you need to hit the gas during some sort of freeway shooting.

Default CAI worth it?

I installed the AEM CAI in conjunction with a header and exhaust. The 2 work hand in hand, more air in and more air out. I noticed a difference in uphill climbs and overall acceleration. Possibly a slight increasde in MPG. I am not an aggressive driver but still feel the 9 or 10 HP gain is noticable in a car that produces about 88 HP at the rear wheel. That's a 10% gain! not bad for an evenings work!

I've talked to different people about going CAI or Short Ram and the majority says to go short ram because you get more bang for the buck. Short Rams are a little cheaper I believe. But it is also your preference on if you would rather want a Cold Air Intake or Short Ram. I know if I ever change my intake that I will be doing a Injen Short Ram.

It sure sounds like faith-based stuff.

Say, could you tell more or refer to websites so we can read the manf. blurbs?

If it looks good and styles well and feels nice, OK! Do it..

I'll wipe out this text if it bothers anyone.. but after all, the opening question is this:

Sorry if I gave you the impression that my Si was a hot rod. I never actually used "fast" and "Si" in the same sentence. My point was not to expect a CAI to "fix" the lack of amazing pickup that leroybrentwood refers to in his original post. Just trying to help a brother out...

Buy a Mustang GT for speed.

That's what I'm doing.

I think you mean front wheels...unless you've got a special xB...

I went from a 2002 Civic SI to an Xb also. The Si is a quick car. It may not be "fast" like an EVO or a WRX, but it is zippy.

Without dropping some major cash on the Xb, you're not going to solve the horsepower problem. If you are going to get it, get the manual transmission. The automatic is a DOG and sucks a bunch of power from the engine.

You kind of have to take the car for what it is worth.
