Default Infant Rear facing car seat in a tC??

Has anyone had any luck / experience using a rear facing car seat in their tC? My wife is due in August and I am just wondering if we will be able to use the tC with a rear facing car seat. Thanks.

generally it is not wise to put a child seat in the passenger seat, back seat is best. The passenger seat should have a airbag cutoff sensor in the seat so it will not deploy, but your owners manual suggests alternates. The back seats should have anchor spots for it....i wouldnt see a problem with the rear facing in the back

The tC has three LATCH restraints, which are the legally mandated tie downs for any newer car seat. They're behind the back seats, so of course that is where you're going to put them. The seat should fit fine, but if you don't know how to put it in, have someone at the store do it the first time - it's not as simple as it looks. Of course, assuming you haven't bought your car seat yet, make sure it is compatible with the LATCH mounts. you can see the three of them in the trunk, under the little black plastic covers. It's in the manual too.

Awesome guys, thanks for your replies! Yeah my wife looked in the manual and found it. I am not one for looking stuff up usually :-) Thanks for the info.

I have a baby girl that sits in a rear facing baby seat in my tC. It mounts great, and is relativley easy to get her in and out, for a 2-door. It was suggested to me by a certified baby seat installer, that they are placed in the middle as this keeps them as far as possible from the sides incase of a side impact. Just make sure you get your hatch window tinted.

What happens if you have side airbags? Will that hurt the infant?

I would suspect it could potentially, but if you have SAB and they go off, that means some big car is hitting your car from the side. At that point, I doubt the airbags will do more harm. As Lash said, if you have one baby, the carseat goes in the middle. This is standard operating procedure with any carseat in any car.

When my wife was pregnant, the local hospital offered to show her how to properly set up the child seat in our car, once she got it. Might want to look into something like that.

I was told that by having side airbags can potentially kill your kid due to the force the air bag is gonna shoot out from the side and rocking your kid rather hard. I dunno Im a single father myself and I don't use side air bags. Who knows I do know that the reason you don't put child seats in the front is cause of the air bags deploying(or so Im told) perhaps that rationale can be used for the side ones?
