DDX7015 trim install & other related pix - 56k=go fly a
First off, sorry for the low quality of the pictures. I let a buddy borrow my digital camera to take pictures of his son for Prom, so these were taken with my digital camcorder.
Pictures of the radio installed, before we installed the trim:

Here's the trim parts we used. They're original Toyota parts which were made for the Celica IIRC.

Picture with the dash panel removed:

Picture of the modified stock bracket. You have to redrill the stock bracket to allow you to mount the radio, and still have the ability to close the front door. There are actually dimples by a couple of the holes that are exactly where you need to drill the new holes. As seen in the picture, I only used two screws per side to hold it in and it is still VERY solid. Here's the pic:

Picture of the wiring harness with both harnesses spliced into one (ignore the slack tape job, I was frustrated after untaping/retaping it 5 times
:

Here's a shot of the back of the dash panel where the trim will be attached:

I roughed up the mounting area with some 80 grit sandpaper to give the adhesive something to bite into:

I trimmed off all but the front portion of the trim pieces. You can somewhat see in this pic, but the ____ty lighting makes it harder to see:

Here's a shot with one side hot glued into place. A good tip to keep it clean looking like this is to keep a plastic knife on hand to smooth and push the glue into crevices to help it grip:

Here's another shot of the same thing. Notice the white portion on the inside edge. This is where I scored and broke off the rest of the trim piece.

Picture with one side installed:

Another angle if the installed side:

Shot of the side without the trim installed, for comparison:

Here's a picture from the back with both pieces installed. Something else to be cautious of... When I hot glued the second side in place, I got a little over zealous with the hot glue at the top of the trim. This pushed the glue into the sliding track area for the door, and it was a pain in the **** to clean out.

Picture from the front with both installed:

Proof that the door closes:

Door open with radio (and trim) on:

Better angle of one side installed:

Angle of the other side:

Face folded down:

And I think we're going to need to trim the fenders when the turbo makes its way under the hood...

i get the feeling that the tC crowd don't like to mingle with the a & b's

CRxB- The pieces were $10 per side.
I love every scion owner, we're part of a lil bitty house o' love...
PP, it wasn't a "lame power trip attitude" as you so ineloquently put it, it's called organization! Pop a couple Xanex and stop in again, we like what you did and look forward to seeing more.

I do find the general ICE organization a little silly. 90% of the time I'm not really concerned with what the owners of the other cars are doing with their systems or interiors...
If I want to know, I would rather be able to go to specific ICE sections for each vehicle.
Just seems strange while each vehicle has their own categories, ICE is a broad one that covers all of them.
Dunno, this probably isn't anything that anyone hasn't noted before.

BigRy, I agree 100%. The search feature on here is about 80% worthless, and when I want to find something pertinent to the tC, I've got to sift through tons of crap about other models that don't pertain one ounce to my situation.
mrbridge, got tiedye? (kidding)
Posting this part also since I didn't include it in the original post. This is a PM I just sent to another member:

Got them from here:
http://www.scionpartspeople.com
Search for a Part /Collision/Mechanical Parts Catalog, then do a search on both of these part #'s:
86221-52060
86221-52050
One is for the left, the other is for the right. The way I did it it doesn't really matter which one goes on which side, but if you figure out a better way to mount them than I did, you'll want the correct pieces. And I use the term "Better" pretty loosely, modding is an evolutionary process.

If you have a valid reason why the ICE section should be split between models feel free to post your thoughts in the website discussion forum for Darren to see. He is the only one who can make this type of change.
The search is tempermental but it does work once you get used to it. Here is a thread I found where a xB with the same radio used the same trim pieces.

thats why people should search first, instead of posting the same dribble over and over. but thats for a diff rant...
but if it helps you can add xA, xB, tC to the search terms to refine it...
if you can explain how a stereo becomes diff based on what car you put it in, i'd be open to the split idea...
the plugs on the back of the radio are the same...
the antenna connection is the same....
they are the same sized opening...
a 4ga power wire is the same wether in a xA,xB, tC....
RCA's are the same, a six disc changer is the same...
the trim around the radio does not make the radio diff...
a cover that hides it does not make the radio diff...
this has been discussed before. you will need to make a good case for it...
we are open to suggestions but there needs to be a good case behind it...

I posted it where I did because I felt it posed the greatest benefit there and it would be simple to find. If you want to make it more difficult to find car specific information, I'll leave that on your shoulders. I'm through debating this though, this is something you people as website staff need to figure out, especially since it's a pretty universal feeling that the current breakdown isn't so hot.

thats why its the same for all scions.... nothing special to make it tC only...
and its in the best place now. it does the whole scion family the greatest good.
anything related to ICE goes in ICE. if you put a RADIO in and have gaps, would you go into corner carvers for a solution...no, you would go to where people discussed ICE and their solutions to unique problems...
