Do you mean valve? What do you need a bypass valve for?

he's not talking about a fake blow off valve he means the bypass valve from AEM the bypass valve is used to make sure water does not get in through your intake.

You still won't need one unless you drive through lakes!

thats not true, even if you go through a big puddle without a bypass valve you still run teh risk of sucking up some water and hydrolocking. I would not have a CAI on my daily driver without a bypass valve.

They had a pic and a video awhile back of intake tubing coming out of the car and down to a bucket of water, half submerged the filter and where running the car with no hydrolock. Seems effective to me.

How does the bypass valve work? Is it electronic or it like a PCV valve which is a one way check valve?

I believe that you can get a electronically controlled one, but the ones ive seen have a spring in it set to a specific psi and open a valve when that is reached. Many b.o.v. come with inter-changable springs and or a adjustable screw.

Very good article! Good to see a designer willing to stand behind his design.

I think the bypass is a great idea. But I dont think I will be getting one with my CAI, at least not for now. I have the old saturn which is what I drive in nasty weather (yes the tC is a garage queen, a heated garage queen at that ). Plus, I am very careful of where I drive my car when it is wet out and the CAI on the tC is relatively far from the ground compared to the way they fit on some other cars. So I think I am pretty safe. But it is good insurance to have.

Your replies are by far the dumbest sounding I have heard yet. And you sound dumber with each one. I take back my comment from another thread saying you must be 15 years old... my 9 year old is more mature and intelligent than you sound
Try being helpful .. that is a huge part of what the site is for: so people dont have to sit on hold for 2 hours and talk to three different people at Injen to find out a simple answer. DUH Your bashing others because they dont know something is useless to anyone. And given some of the input you have given in other threads, I wouldn't go treating others like THEY were dumb

Im SSOO sorry. I've got to stop smoking crack. I replyed to the wrong thread. There was a thread alittle while back where someone wanted to add a b.o.v. to a tC that wasnt boosted in anyway just for the sound (yeah you can imagine what i said) So i got confused when he was talking about the bypass being electronic, when i was sent the email about the reply i got the 2 confused.

So sorry again for the retarded reply. My mom always said i was

The fact that you came back to correct it more than makes up for it! We all make mistakes... hell I know I make more than my share

yup they said 15 year olds to Iraq to fight wars.......... and your lucky that people like me keep your 9 year old from being able to get an education and become more inteligent and allow _____es like your to post comments that get insulted about the truth of my post... sorry but i come on here and see nothing but pointless threads being started... look down on the "power hungry" page and honestly tell me how many "useful" threads are started.......I probably can count 5 threads stared about a supercharger thats not released yet......... My point is if you want an answer go straight to the source cuz obviously you wont find it here...... and i find it funny that you try to insult me like you know me cuz kid, YOU DONT WANNA KNOW ME

and to answer this post, a bypass valve is a waste of money.... if you live in a wet area or have to drive in puddles everyday then turn your CAI into a short ram... thats a main reason why the piping comes in 2 pieces..... common sense will tell you that driving in 8 inches of water is a bad idea.....
