i got a stock Xa, i never put anything in a car before so that might be a little problem if i were to put something complicate in a car (i can learn though, a fairly quick learner @ that). @ any rate i've been complaining about my new xA that has no acceleration what so ever, and i'm begging my parents to trade me their camry for my xA (which they are not gonna), so @ the last effort i want some more acceleration in this pony of mine, i honestly don't care about topspeed as i will never go above 85mph, i just want the initial acceleration, what can i do to achieve that? gosh i missed my camry, that thing accelerate fairly quick IMO.
oh and the noise, is it gonna be bad? i'm a sound freak, when i listen to music i want the car to be fairly quiet (which this xA isn't, the camry was a smoother ride), BTW, i can hear alot of the road, i'm guessing that it's the tire right? how long before i can change tire? i wanna get a set that's a little quieter and handles a bit better than the stock.

sorry guy, you got the wrong car for cheap, power offerings to help acceleration... it helps immensely if you're driving stick tho
just keep your revs in its power band 3.5~4.5k

Yeah, I agree with specail sauce...The only thing I can think of is a short ram or cold air intake. You'd gain 3-5 HP and wont change the sound too much
warlock110
05-23-2005, 05:21 PM
how much does it costs to get the shortram or cold air intake, and can i get both? i'm thinking of trading in my xA for a tC but since i just got this car money is a huge issue now, i probably can't afford to loose a few thousand bucks trading this in :(.

intakes wont help at all in initial acceleration unless you somehow always start at 3K RPM and up... if anything, it will hurt your initial acceleration.

no offense, but did you test drive the car more than around the block? I was driving xbs for at least 3 hours total before i bought mine. hell i even drove the ____ out of an xa. the xa is fairly peppy with a stick, so im guessing u have an auto? regardless, a short ram intake is fairly quiet unless ur at WOT and is a half hour install with a coupla hand tools if you have half a brain.

you want more power, but don't want to increase the noise and you don't want to spend a lot of money? that's tough. lighter wheels and tires sound like something that may work for you, though. look into it.

i think the easiest and cheapest way to gain acceleration in your case is to reduce weight
throw out the passenger seats, trade wheels for stock echo 14s, and lose that spare in the back!
doesn't cost you anything, you might lose a few hundred pounds, and your free to tear it up on the roads!

ok, that sounds good, the only thing is, i can't throw out the back seat, a 2 seater isn't very convient and it doesn't look nice, the spare tire i can throw out (might be a little dangerous, but i can probably do it). i can't trade in the wheel, the 15" is probably a better road hugger than a 14" if anything i wanna trade up to a 16 or 17 but now that the weight is a problem, i'll just keep the stock size and change to better tire when the stock one wears out.
OK, the hell with the noise, what's cheap to install and gain a bit more power? how do you install a shortram BTW?

get some 16 or 17 inch track lights , or gram lights , or drag lightweight wheels. lighter than stock 15's and lookin good. and those 14's with the right tire would own the stock 15's

i was just messing with you man. but seriously, some light weight 14's (e.g. miata rims) with good rubber will do you well on the roads. get a taller tire to keep your speedo accurate.
keep the spare dude. you'll blow a tire as soon as you pull it out.

i've decided to let this car @ what it is, there's no real good way to gain power with the little money that i have left, i'll just get another car that has more power when i graduate, it's not the matter of choosing cars, it's just that most of us here are like me and wanting a little bit more than what we have, but it looks like anything is gonna cost quiet a bit of money, those money are probably better of saving into buying another car, thannks guys, BTW i might throw out the back seat just for kicks lol, i wonder how much they weight, and if i have money i'll change the wheels.

If you can't go fast on straights, you should at least make the car handle better in turns. You said you had it bone stock right? Drop your xA then. Better handling, fill up the wheel gap, and looks a lot better. Plus buying lowering springs will cost you at most $200 bucks and a little elbow grease. That and a couple cents of paper and ink to print of the DIY in the tech section. If your afraid of installing your springs and want someone with more experience, asked Darren (hotbox05) and he'll do it for you for $50.

i said little money, not no money, i know parts doesn't fall out of the sky, at any rate, i've decided to call off updating the car, this'll be my parents car after a few more year, i'll just get something a little faster.

it's ok man, i still haven't pay off this car yet :), but cars are just cars, @ the 20K range alot of people can afford it, after college you'll most likely get about 2K (atleast) per month, a car payment is like 200 per months, and if you can save up 20K in like 2 years then you can just pay off the car right away. There's alot of good car in the 20K range, the tC being one of them, moving up to the 25K and you can get something like the subaru WRX, and move up a bit and you can get a poniac GTO, they are all decent car for the money IMO. living in CA, i feel that car is about the only thing that i can afford, houses in where i live are atleast 500K for a mediocure house lol, with a basic salary it's rather hard to get one. Putting all that aside, i've found that if i push the pedal more then the car accelerate decent (but the engine roars scares me sometimes, and it'll probably cost me alot of gas money). So... in the end i've decided to take my parents old 98 camry instead :lalala: this car is great for a commute car, not so much as a joy ride car. BTW does anyone get above 30mpg on this car? i can't seems to get more than 30mpg, this is a mix of freeway and local road driving.

something cheap?
Try the grounding kit. If your experincing a slight hesitation when you hit the gas initially, this may help. You can make your won kit easily for around $20.
May not give you the "Power" that your actually looking for, but you may notice the difference.
