Question on tC parts' compatiblity with other cars....
As you may know, Powerslot (formerly AEM) offers a "big rotor" upgrade for the tC (actually the Celica GT-S but whatever...) that includes larger front rotors and new caliper brackets that relocate the calipers over th enew larger rotors.
Thing is, it's expensive...over $550 and I'm not totally sold on the benefit of it anyways. I could just upgrade the rotors to stock-sized slotted Powerslot rotors but I would like the larger size. Does anyone know what the larger size is exactly? And is this larger size found on any other cars? If so, perhaps we could just do our own "big rotor" upgrade just by buying the larger rotors on eBay or an aftermarket supplier (let's just say for example that the larger size can be found on a Lexus ES 330...I'm making this up but if this were the case we could now search for these rotors anf ind them easily and inexpensively) and then just get the brackets separately.
That may be a cheaper alternative. Especially if the caliper brackets already exist on another car and we just need to find out.
There are many parts that are interchangable from the tC to others, I'm sure, but we need to find out. The tC's front brakes are the same as not only the Celica GT-s, but also the pontiac Vibe and newer Corollas. We all know the engine is basically the same as the Camry's...and some of us have already put on the Injen CAI short ram sold for Camry's onto our tC's.... What seats are interchangeable? We know the rims are 5X100 bolt pattern so there are so many other cars (WRX for example) that we can choose rims from. Hop on a Subaru site and you may see soem cool and unique rims for your tC that you never knew of and you may get a great deal since it's a private sale...just an example.
My point is that our cars are fairly new and our choices for parts, though growing, are still limited and therefore expensive compared to cars that have been out for a few years. However, if we know that certain parts on those other cars will fit, we can save some $$.
OK now I'm rambling. If anyone has a buddy with a Celica or an RSX or similar, try swapping seats one day just for the heck of it for example...let's try to work together to learn a bit more about our car's in this way...just a thought....
