Default How to fit Eu-700 or any 3.5-4" deep speaker in your tC

First of all, need to make some bigger baffles. Mounting depth on the Eu-700 is 3 5/8". Not nearly enough room with the normal 3/4" baffle.

Just traced the outline of the stock speaker on some wood and cut them out:

Then, make a circle as big as the woofer(7") with a hole for the speaker cut out and mount it on the baffle:

Now, just put the Eu-700 in the hole and attach it to do door:

And yes...it fits with the window rolled down:

Driver:

Passenger:

Now, before putting the door panel on, mod time. Picked up a dremel with the flex-shaft for this, very nice to have around.

Here's a pic of the nicely deadened panel, thanks Jeremy.

Before cutting:

Notice that big circle that I guess channels the sound from the stock speaker? Bu-bye:

And now what you've all been waiting for, PROOF!!

Driver side:

Passenger:

Pretty simple

Forgive the bit of eDead in that last pic, ended up splattering on the grill, haven't removed it yet

Any questions/comments, let me hear it

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but what is eDead? Is that the silver tape-looking thing?

What else can you use for the Baffel? I know wood is what you used but I don't have tools to cut wood. Also, did you cut the wires or use a harness? I don't know of anyone that sells them but I might be wrong.

Do you have the stock HU?

eDead is sound deadening, yes, that silver tape looking stuff. There really isn't much else to use as a baffle, you can rent the necessary tools, but they're pretty cheap to buy. And as far as cutting the wires or using a harness, neither. You wouldn't be running this speaker from any HU let alone the stock HU.

Main reason = that one was a prototype we slaughtered...500 watts in a low tuned ported box is not to that little guys liking

We have another one here that I'm going to wire up later today. Probably sound like utter crap because it's a sub/midbass paired with a tweeter and no midrange...but I'll try anyway.

Need to figure out how to make stock looking kicks now though

I guess a set of those on the doors, with enough sound deadening (or another speaker the can run free air) with a set of 6.5s and tweeters in a kick panel would be pretty sweet. I could run my 12" at a 38Hz or something and all the kicks would be put out through the 7"ers.

HyperZ...exactly what I'm going to try and do...need to seal it just because those huge holes in the door would screw up the sound pretty good.

ndnbolla, for the 600's you'd only need the one baffle, no need to make the extra spacing circle

Nope, it only becomes an issue with the extra 3/4". With a normal sized 6.5" it's fine

so all you would need for 600's is that one 3/4" baffle for each?

That is correct. If you take a look at this picture:

That's a 6500 mid attached to a single baffle...and was in my car for 3 months.

So those are 6.5 subwoofers?

Just curious, Chris, but is there a reason a normal person would put little subs in their doors? Where are you gonna get the rest of your sound range from?

And here I thought I wasn't a car audio noob anymore

those mids take care of the midrange, he probably has aftermarket tweeters that take care of the higher ranges and he might have a sub(s) that take care of the lows.

Well...plan is to get those in the doors and fabricate some kind of kicks for either some CDT 4"ers with the eDi tweeters or my co-workers Iridium 3"s with the eDi tweets.

Probably end up with the 4" CDT's just because they'd extend lower better.

Reason to have the subs in the doors would be to have my sub stage in the back set as low as possible

Mandos, this is going a bit off topic but could you use the the eD 15% combo discount in conjuction with the eD 15% scionlife discount?

nope...the 20% discount is eDead only....so it's actually better just to buy eDead outside of the package to get the larger discount on it
