Ride quality of coilovers over springs/struts??
I come from the offroad world and when i had coilovers on my truck it would absorb bumps like they werent tthere yet itd still have a fairly firm ride (granted i had sidewalls that were taller than my tires are wide on the tC). I was going to go with the TRD springs on my tC since thats about the ride height im after and not into "slamming" my car. So with the coilovers hows the ride quality? i know there arent many out there with them, but those who know, fill me in. Also other than tein what other brands are there? im new to the car world so other than the sponsers here im not too sure what other brands are out there.
coilovers are adjustable ride quality. that's the basics of it. you can soften it up if you would like or drop it down.
the teins are probably the best setup i've seen. with the edfc they're very pimp. but you should get ready to drop $1500 for it

yeah i know that they are adjustable, but instead of hiting bumps real hard do they absorb them instead. But also provide a firm handling around turns and such? Price isnt the ultimate concern, im after ride quality.
im thinkin of goin with trd shocks/springs myself..i dont want to deal with all of the adjustable stuff and camber kits and what not..and for me, price does matter so imma go wit trd..i heard it has great handles, ride quality, and reduces road noise

So there is an electronic control that comes with the kit? or is it seperate. and this is with the teins right? I went on teins site and didnt see anything about edfc.
oh duh. musta missed it.
Thanks for your help, it says on the application chart that the motors wont have enought room on the top. i think its because they havent tested it but i think i will! this system looks sweet *heads over to ebay*

I will vouch for the Teins, just installed them with the pillow ball mounts (spherical top mounts) and had them on my autocross Matrix as well. I just installed the Hotchkis rear sway bar and upper control arms (camber adjustment and eurathane bushings) tonight. Will do the front bar when we install the custom flywheel, clutch and PP and rebuild the motor mounts within the next week or so when all the parts arrive.
As for the EDFC, nice to have, not nessesary, I am not planning on running one because the only real gain would be on a road race track, you can manually adjust the shocks in a couple of minutes for various events. My opinion, they are a very nice add on but only if you are a very serious racer either on a course or back canyons, the rest of us do not need them and on most cars have seen them they were there for bling and not for funtion;)
Oh, almost forgot, I have driven many matrixes with every sort of suspension upgrade you could think of and the SS Teins were the best riding and handling, why I have them on my tC.
(ok, other brands have a good rep but they are not available;)

I have the Tein SS-p they are the only ones for the tc that you can run the edfc with... I also sell Tein product...
I love the suspension its fun and gives me the aggresive stance I want. So many people come up to me and say damn nice stance say thanks.
Its the adjustabilty of the coilovers is why you get them.
I mean a good spring strut combo will cost you 600 - 800 bucks... Thats the same price as the Tein Basics (800) So I spent the extra couple hundred on top of that and got the best.
If your intrested in tein or any other suspesnion setup hit me up Ill see what I can do for you

Ok, finally put some decent miles on the car with the SS's and they improved the handling dramatically.
I am still playing with the shock adjustments, contrary to at least one statement I have a seen, they do make a big change going from the highest to lowest setting . This is very very usefull to have for those that want to autox, road course, drag and street drive thier car;)
Since my interior is out the car is fairly lite right now and a bit stiff riding on fairly low settings so cannot judge the coilovers completely in the ride department but they are stiffer than the set I had on my Matrix. I am going to lower the setting on the fronts again today and see how it goes.
I also have tires with fairly stiff sidewalls, 235/40/17 Hankook R-S2s, quite a few eurathane bushings in the suspenstion, etc, which contribute to the tighter suspension feel, the springs and shocks will break in a bit more as well.
Wednesday I went on a 200 mile round trip through the mountains, freeway so no really tight corners but I waitingn for the best ones and got on it pretty hard, pulled 100+ MPH out of the corners posted 50 and was stuck like a fly on sheat

I still do not have all the alignment dialed in yet, making smaller adjustments to fine tune it now(I do my own work on this) and still running the stock front sway bar, rear on the "soft" setting. Once all completed and even more so when I replace the glass roof with CF, this car is going to be one very very fast autocrosser and road track car, can't wait to get it on the courses!!
Bottom line, Tein SS is a great way to go
