Thanks for your interest in the tCover module.
If you live in the San Francisco Bay area, I can do the
install for you. If not, your best option would be to
download and print the tCover Installation Manual from
the web and take it to your local car stereo
installation shop. You can then ask them to look
through the manual and see if they can install it for
you.
Please let me know if you have any more questions /
concerns. email- support@tcover.net

There is a manual switch to open and close it.
From the website F.A.Q.
Q: What is the tCover?
A: The tCover is a device that automatically opens and closes the radio cover of the Scion tC. This can be done with the turn of the ignition key or with the use of the optional override switch.
I may have to check some local shops to see what they would charge

You should change your eBay auction to include a "Buy It Now" option, so people won't have to wait for the auction to end.
I would also like to see the over-ride toggle switch changed to a plain black rocker switch that nearly fills the panel. Toggles are tacky looking, and really detract from this very professional looking modification. You make that change, I just might get one.
This is the style of switch ( Carling Technologies TI-Series Tippette rocker ) I'm talking about...
I'm sure a company like Carling Technologies (http://rocker-switches.carlingtech.com/non-illuminated-rocker-switch__43.asp) can hook you up with some nice rockers configured any way you wish.

Anybody know of any shops in the Torrance, CA area that would be able to install the motor?
Also, if the motor should die a year from now, can the spring be reinstalled so the door operates as stock?

Hi all, thanks for your interest in the tCover.
I've been reading the posts and I have a few comments:
1. I would have preferred to use "Buy it Now" but you need at least five positive feedbacks to do so, so that wasn't an option. As soon as I finialize everything with my business bank account, I am going to offer a single "click to purchase" option on my site.
2. There is an over ride switch that will allow you to open and close the cover regardless of the ignition key position.
3. I can understand that some may think that $100 is expensive, however it is not just "... a little board and some wires". I spent about three months of R&D, with many designs, prototypes, etc. to get the working system. There is a small computer on the custom circuit board that has custom software. I had to spend many, many, hours designing and developing this. Plus, I put A LOT of time and attention into the Installtion Manual, so anyone who has basic tool skills could install the product. Plus, my volumes are low right now which make things cost more per unit.
4. I do live in San Francisco, and I can install it for you if you agree to sign a release of liability waiver.
5. I own a tC that has the tCover installed and working for over six months.
Thanks,

Mr. Norman,
Thank you for responding to our concerns. I understand the economies of scale and the amount of labor you have put in to this product justifies the price. However, I, along with many other people on this board I'm sure, are broke. It's hard to justify spending $100 on something that doesn't make the car go faster, stop shorter or turn better.
Maybe you could drop the price to Scionlife.com members for "x" amount of days. Word of mouth (hands?) spreads fast around here and it would be a great start to your company.
Also, the 60 day warranty seems a little short. Even if I did have the money, the warranty duration would be enough to scare me away.
Thank you for all of your efforts into making the tC that much cooler to own.

Well, I finally finished installing the Tcover last night, it works very nice. It was not that hard at all, the instructions make it very easy, you just have to take your time drilling the two holes that must be perfect for correct operation.

does it operate smoothly and how does it sound?

It moves pretty smoothly, it basically uses an RC Car steering servo for a motor, so thats what it sounds like, but its not too loud or anything.

I just got mine in the mail today. :lalala: Plan on installing later this week. I didn't see any on ebay, so I just emailed them and they told me to send $ via paypal. Got it 4 days later.
The kit looks really professional. This isn't something someone is making in their garage. I'm very impressed with the looks and quality of the kit.

Yea, I'm going to install myself. I'll take some "color" pics during the process and a how to specific to the color code of the wiring. It looks pretty easy to install. I've taken the door closing controls off before.
Some of it is not necessary. For example the bypass switch and wiring. Since my head unit only powers up with acc on, I really have no need to open the door without the key in acc position. My thought is....if you don't have the key...you don't need to see what's under the door.

I bought one awhile back, about two months or so. I installed it with the insrtuctions. I think I got one one of the first three made or so. Here is my feedback.
Price.
Well, you get what you pay for. I work for a custom robotics company and I have to say this guy did a hell of a good job on this mod. Not only to make a mod but, engineering the pc board, the mechanisms, the documentation, marketing, all that crap just to make it available to all of us other tC addicts! The price was owrth it to me. In my own little selfish way, I'm glad people are _____ing about the price a little. I dont want everyone to be able to drive down to Kragen and stick one on thier tC.
Not to mention that the quality is awsome.
Install.
Yeah, it was kind of a biaatch for me even though I do these things for a living. But the reason why was that the manual and parts were still being perfected. I was in email contact with him after my install to let him know where I believed improvements could be made. He was very open to these suggestions and already had a few of these issues in the works.
It took me about 4 hours for my install for the above reasons plus, he had mistakenly sent me a wrong part which I modified to make work. I would guess two to three hours for the average person to do it , he has since upgraded some parts and documentation. It is a pretty tight fit in there so patience is very big thing here. I made the mistake of starting my install at 9pm knowing I had to work at 5am. Not a good choice.
The tCover
Very cool mod, It does feature an overide switch that functions with or without the key on. Otherwise, it works as advertised, Key on = up. Key off = Down. The speed is adjustable.
I love the cover mod. My only real concerns are someone trying to force the cover open not realizing its automated now. So, when I get my car serviced now I use the overide switch to leave it in the up position. That way when the little sevice intern jumps in my tC and goes to bump the volume on my stereo, he won't jack it up.
I will also add that his customer service is A1. Just for helping out with the feedback and sending me a bad part, He was kind enough to refund my Paypal account $25. he didn't have to but, that was very classy.
tCover, I wish you well. Damn it now the word is out and everyone is gonna have one! :eyebrow:

I did it about 2 weeks ago. Exactly as you stated. This guy is first class to deal with and not something he made up in one afternoon.
Pretty tight fit  , but it does...
Cool thing also is someday, you can reverse with no visible damage if you choose and it sure does make passengers go..." WTF! Do it again."

I recently did the mod as well. Very cool design. I love it!. The instructions were well written, and the customer service was perfect. From a scale 1-10 i rate the tcover a 10. Thanks again Scott Norman@tcover.net

do you think best buy would be able to install this?
spyderz9
07-27-2006, 02:16 AM
I have the cover, and I think they probably won't even want to touch it. And I really wouldn't want them to, not that its that difficult or anything, but its really hit or miss as far as finding talented installers at the Big Box Stores ( I used to work for them, so I know).
There are a few steps to the install that need to be precise, if they mess up, your factory cover is ruined.
(When I say ruined, I just mean that the TCover isn't going to go on it now, but could still function as the stock cover would, and you would have to buy a new door assembly to try again.)
I would try to find a very reputable Mom and Pop Shop, and show them the install manual for it, and ask them how comfortable they would be in doing it. You should be able to download the manual on the web site.

Ive got a small question, the cover for my radio door is noticibly scratched so I was going to wait to install it till after I get a new door (probably from ebay).
But do you think I could install it before and then when I get my new door just replace it without any problems?
