Default Okay, so we got a R.S. 2 xB.......

Today was our first full day with the blindingly yellow box. My wife loves it. It looks really cool sitting in the garage next to my xA. I like the way it drives and I'm amazed at all the room. Anyhow, I have two questions which I hope someone on here can answer.
#1. Does anyone make yellow LED's that I can do the cupholders with? I did my xA with blue, but this box has to be yellow. I really don't want amber, I want YELLOW. Any idea where to find them. I want them prewired with the resistors on them (like the blue set I got at Advance Auto for $8.00).

#2. Now that we both have a Scion, and the xA and xB use the same type of key, I'm trying to figure out a way to quickly identify which key on my ring is mine and which is hers. Has anyone seen any kind of plastic or rubber cover that will slide onto the keys and fit over top of the black plastic head of th key?

Thanks for any ideas!

#1. I don't know

#2. I have seen colored remote covers before. I think it was in the scion xB brochure. You could even paint the remote yellow to match the car...

My 2 cents...

*EDIT* Congrats on the new car!

Thanks. I have my own remote, but I will have my own key and hers. She has her own remote, but she will have her key and my key. I need a way to designate the keys, not the remotes.

For#1, you might be better off just putting transparent yellow plastic in where the led shines through into the cup holders. That would make it yellow sort of. Maybe not a perfect solution, but definately an easier one.

For #2, put the fob for the xB directly attached to the xB key. I don't know if there's a fob for the xA, but if there is, just put that on your main key ring, not attached to the key iteself.

I'm lucky the tC key is a lot different than the xB key.

Paint the recess of the key and fob yellow to match the car. And yes, yellow leds are available. There are plenty of threads here that cover that already.

Have you asked them. There are only two locks and the ignition to change and then
reprogram the receiver for the remote. It might not be that bad. People get there
cars broken into all the time and the door locks and ignition are all busted up.

I just called my dealership and they said that they could do it but it would be cheaper
to just have a locksmith rekey the car than to replace the locks completely. I also
remember something in the owners manual that gave instructions for adding additional
remote controls. So I'll reserve my billing information for now. Good luck.

As cool of an idea as that is, I don't think I would want to do it. When the day comes to sell one of the cars, I'd either have to get it changed back again, or the new owner would have a key to our other car. Not something I would be comfortable with.

I hate to brake the bad news to you but somebody already has a key to your car.
They just don't make that many different key variations. When I was a kid we left
the Mall and got in our station wagon, started the engine, and started to drive off
when I said to my father that somebody had stolen the CB as it wasn't in the car.
My very sheepish father then parked the car, locked it and walked down ten cars
to our identical car and drove home. Also my grandfather bought two El Cominos
about eight years apart and the same key would start both cars. So keep hoping that
Scion made a lot of variations.

Yeah, you're probably right. But we don't know which cars match.
I was actually thinking of dipping the plastic head of my wife's key in some of that Plasticoat stuff. I could make it bright yellow. I just don't know how long it would last before it started to flake and peel.

There are several things you can do with the other key

1) get a silver paint pen, and paint the inside of the Scion logo. This should not wear off as parts of the logos are recessed.

2) grind down the plastic scion logo with a grinder. Just basically shave it down, or put a notch on one side. Alter the black part of the key itself.

I guess I didn't do a very good job of explaining this. We already have different keychains. Hers is the standard Scion remote and mine is an aftermarket remote. The problem is that (for convenience) we like to each have the keys to both cars. That means that on my keychain, I have the key to my xA and the key to her xB. Both keys look exactly the same.

*I like the silver paint pen on the logo idea.

That's it! That's exactly what I had in mind. Thank you. I just wonder if they are big enough to fit over the plastic head of the Scion keys.
