View Full Version : 1200+ dollars for repair!!!
sensez 06-03-2005, 04:21 AM i took my xb in to the dealership today...
i told them when i turn on the fan for the ac it rumbles and when i set it on hi it causes the gas pedal to vibrate.
they found out some sort of rodent got into the system and got diced by my fan blower.
to get the rodent out and clean they are going to charge me 1200+ dollars.
im still trying to see if theres someway to get the insurance to cover it (thanks lip for the idea.)
i just think the cost is ridiculous.
any suggestions help or any hook ups.
i live in socal.
thanks

bB2NER 06-03-2005, 04:39 AM I say go to any reputable A/C or Radiator place that services A/C. $1200 is ridiculous even if they had to remove the dash to say do a heater core replacementit wouldn't cost anywhere near that. Basically they need to loosen up the dash and pull it away from the firewall then remove the case. Pull it apart and remove and clean all the innards and reinstall everything. I say anyplace other than a dealer shouldn't charge more than 4 or 5 hundred dollars. Just shop around and also find out from your insurance co. They may have had this problem before and may have a place to send you to have it done and cover it under insurance. Check with them first but it may cost less than your deductable. Good luck Bro!!!
I reread your post and it sounds like the dead mouse is still inside your blower wheel/cage. Due to the vibration factor. If that is the case they may be able to pull just the blower motor and remove it. That may cost less than a hundred or you may be able to it yourself. It can't hurt to check.
sensez 06-03-2005, 05:29 AM thanks for the info..
already dealing with the insurance co tomorrow. i'll have to write that down if they reccommend a place.
i hate my service dept here in temecula, ca.
though al sands (new service guy) was very helpful and pleasant to deal with. too bad i cant say that for all the service people (though some of the girls look good) =P
ill have to remember this. thanks jet.

Piston 06-03-2005, 05:40 AM If they wont cover it, the fan is easy to replace. I had to do it on mine. It only takes about 30 minutes. As for finding the "rodent" that got in your car, that is a whole nother story.

sensez 06-03-2005, 08:27 AM they found it.
it's everywhere.
minced rodent all in the system.
if my insurance wont cover it.. i'll seriously have to look for an ac place to do it. my deductible is 500 and i guess that's how much it SHOULD cost.

thanks.
any more advice would be great.
xBino 06-03-2005, 08:36 AM ewwww...
how does something like that ever happen. i hope things work out for you man
THE_DON 06-03-2005, 03:09 PM RODENTS! :nails:
Where do you park?? Did they really think there was any food in there? Or were ther trying to make a home! That sucks!
Anyway, $1200 is too much, unless your entire a/c is destroyed.

sensez 06-03-2005, 03:43 PM i have no clue.
the 1200 i think is mostly labor. =[
hopefully insurance will cover it. if not i'll have to shop around since ive heard from many the whole job should be 500 or less.
i'd try to DIY but i honestly dont trust myself too much with such a big job.
how did it happen?
i live in a country-esque kind of place. winchester, ca (near temecula but in the rural area.) our neighborhoods road is a private road and is composed of dirt. and dont even get me started when it rains =[

Tyler_Knight 06-03-2005, 08:58 PM they found out some sort of rodent got into the system and got diced by my fan blower.-
Does it only vibrate when you have the AC on, or when ever the fan is on? Which fan are we talking about?
Just wondering because you did not complain about the "what crawled up your scion and died" smell that would be tough to miss if it was inside the car....
sensez 06-05-2005, 02:09 AM i guess it got sucked in when i was on the way to SD to get my rsr's installed. =[
i was driving and i started hearing some knocking type sound. i turned off my stereo. listened for it. noticed my fan/ac was on. turned it off. went away. turned it higher and higher and noise got louder and started to cause my pedals to vibrate. thereafter it started to smell. =[
i will have to wait till monday to find out if insurance can have a hand in this. resulting in 500 dollars taken from my pockets =[
this sucks. damn rodents!

Jesboyhere 06-06-2005, 05:53 AM if the rodent got into it when your car was parked in your garage it would have ta be covered under the homeowners insurance not your auto insurance
txcamobox 06-06-2005, 08:13 AM good point Jesboy.
sensez 06-06-2005, 04:39 PM there's no home owners assoc., we live on a private road, custom built home.
