Default Injen Short Ram Retrofit

Well i took some pics with my phone so pardon the lack of detail and symmetry in the pictures. The install took about 2 hours, partly because the instructions were so crappy and lacked any specifics. In addition to that fitment was very tight there is some rubbing but minimal. As far as driveability there in no torque steer, however it is still easy to peel out with the auto tranny, a simple stomp of the pedal will cause this. The sound is very nice similar to my supercharged corolla and gets very loud at the higher RPMs. I did however notice a very loud whistle nothing like ive heard on other intakes. Power at the top is increased apparently but it can be psychological, taking it to the Dyno next week. I just hope that this setup gains as much as WR.

i don't think you'll get torque steer from a 10hp bolt on.

On the contrary this vehicle always experienced mild torque steer with the stock airbox. When stopped, with a hard stom to the accelerator the vehicle would always torque steer slightly. Ive noticed this does not happen now because of the low end torque loss. However mid to upper acceleration is better.

Just did my install last-night - Short Ram. I love the sound, decent gains up top, didn't notice anything loss in the low end. I still get major torque steer.

You're right about it being a tight fit - I actually pushed the filter down closer to the MAF senser so it fit a bit better, however I think I'm going to adjust it today - do you have any problems with the hood hitting the filter?

also reset your ecu before u turn on ur car. eitehr take the neg terminal out of battery for 10 secs or pull ECU fuse out for 10 secs. THEN turn on car and let run for ~10 min. dont go hard driving yet b/c it takes ~50 miles for the ecu to relearn teh fuel maps.

Well you have to remove the front bumper and tire. The instructions are garbage but just make sure to try to follow them precisely. You wont need many tools, and be patient if you got any questions ask.

i had mine installed at a local place. they had to take off the bumper, tire, and the battery to be able to be able to do the install. it looks nice and sounds decent. the only question i have is why is there a whistle sound? it's liek a high pitch sound...is it the intake SUCKIN IN AIR? or isit the intake LEAKING air? and my other question is, since the air filter is so hidden beneath everything, how am i supposed to check/clean/change the air filter on my own?

I installed the Injen CAI last night....about two hours.
You don't have to remove the front bumper but you do have to take off the front wheel.
Then pull back the wheel well (plastic black piece).
Remember to relocate your grounding strap to the frame of the tC. Becasue the second rubber mounts mounts in its spot.
Have fun.
The sound is wicked!

Kuruma Motoring,'s ebay store, cheapest around and free shipping! I installed it last night, I did not take off the bumper, just the wheel and fender well but damn!!! that fit is a real PITA! I think it would have been a little easier without the bumper on but def not nescesary to take it off. I ended up ordering the black and I know a few of you wanted to see a pic so here ya go:

Just FYI: I found it easier to get the lower pipe in if I bent down the tab that used to hold the stock airbox "feeder tube" in the fender. Before I bent it out of the way I actually scraped up part of the CAI pretty good and kept knocking the rubber fender liner off. After three attempts of getting the lower section installed I got ____ed and just bent the tab clear out of the way. I would recommend doing this before attempting to shove the pipe up the fender well.

Also, one of the rubber mounts that came with the kit wont even start into the hole the threads are so F***** up. I had to zip tie (ya i kow ) the lower intake in place until i can contact Injen and get another one.

acasanova, same thing here... the whistle always existed on my tC (infact, I called the dealership the day after I got her to make sure it was normal!-if your tC is auto, maybe it's not as noticable), but with the intake it's MUCH MORE exaggerated. Personally, I LOVE it!! We did the CAI install...took a few hours, primarily because we followed the directions step by step and VERY careful not to damage the bumper, but it was well worth it. It's a VERY, almost IMPOSSIBLE, fit to get the plumbing in to the side/fender and my only complaint so far (I've had it on for a week now) is the rubber ring that keeps the intake from hitting and rattling (which, btw was a b*tch to put on!) keeps coming off, thus causing it to hit and rattle at very low rpms. Gonna try to "stick" it to the intake more permanently!
Overall, great purchase - very happy.

I found it stayed on better if I cut it in half and put the top and bottom piece on seperately. But yah, i have the same problem.

Oh and get this. I pulled into the dealership today to have them look at my drivers side seat, the fabric is coming undone by the rear entry lever, and these two guys were standing in the lot. As i drive by them i hit that special rpm where the intake whistles and they turn and look at eachother and I could here one guy say "man that tC has a turbo!" If they only knew!!!

Hahahaha!!!
I knew there'd be people out there that would think that!! And look, we saved ourselves $3+++k !!! lol

The kit does produce a great sound - besides the whistle, I LOVE the roar @ ~40mph in 2nd gear @ ~4k rpm.... GRRRRR!
I just love these cars!!!

I dont think so havent verified it have to check the hood clearance , i torque steer very little compared to stock box, but at the higher RPMs its quite a pickup 2500 and up. Do you drive a manual or auto? Im guessing with the AW header and intake it should be at least 10 to 12 hp.
