View Full Version : Which intake should i buy?? Peteypabs88 06-07-2005, 02:56 PM Lookin at other posts I dont know if i should get the injen or K&N intake, what do u guys recommend? MNxBGUY 06-07-2005, 03:24 PM I have the injen S.R.I and it was well worth the money. I don't know anything about the K&N though, so don't really on me. latinotke639 06-07-2005, 03:46 PM the k&n is suppose to be the best bang for you buck, i heard the injen is just as good, im prob. gonna get the injen just cuse i can match an exhast wit it, and i can get a good price on the intake. holla at Tango she can help u out price wise if u need it xAScionicle 06-07-2005, 05:40 PM I have AEM cai. the gain differences are minimal between brands... just get the one you like most. TheScionicMan 06-07-2005, 05:52 PM The Injen SRI for the xA is different than for the xB... Also, if you're going to be showing your car, the CAIs look better for that... squirrel 06-07-2005, 05:57 PM I'll be installing an INJEN SR in my xA when I get it. TheScionicMan 06-07-2005, 06:06 PM xB: http://injen.com/new_layout/products/engine_images/grp2/IS2100P.jpg xA: http://injen.com/new_layout/products/engine_images/grp2/IS2105P.jpg Injen CAI: http://injen.com/new_layout/products/engine_images/grp2/RD2105P.jpg The Injen SRI for the xA is just the CAI without the secondary pipe which leaves the filter in a less than optimal place, IMO. TheScionicMan 06-07-2005, 06:09 PM Hey, Squirrel, when we gonna get this CAI of mine on the Dyno? hotbox05 06-07-2005, 06:11 PM hey for an xA i'd get the k&n cuz it stick the filter in the bumper area but is alot smoother of a path as well as a shorter path for the air in comparison to the dealership aem. squirrel 06-07-2005, 06:17 PM Hey, Squirrel, when we gonna get this CAI of mine on the Dyno? Mark, I still have the dyno day on my list of things to do. Unfortunately, uncle sam threw some more missions my way, and I have to plan around that now. jeffguynyc 06-07-2005, 06:19 PM hey, I was also interested in the K&N CAI for the xA. However my only concern is how low does it actually hang above the ground? I'm hoping it's not too low. Does anyone know? The K&N CAI doesn't allow for a bypass valve to be installed so it's a concern for me. Thanks squirrel 06-07-2005, 06:19 PM I was going to run the heat shield on the half of the filter that faces the exhaust mainfold. But then again, I could get the CAI and see if running it full or SR makes any difference. I just don't like having all of those bends. Right now I'm partial to INJEN. hotbox05 06-07-2005, 06:51 PM oh yeah we know you like injen squirrel , but...... theyre design for the xa just plain sucks , lol. sorry dude i'm not doggin u or injen just saying what i think. the k& n xa intakle puts the filter outside of the hot engine compartment and doesnt take very many bends to get there. deviousXA 06-07-2005, 10:45 PM also the design of the K&N is much better as far as flow but to my understanding other intakes have placed the tube nipple incorectly on the intakes and K&N is the only one that has placed it correctly so all in all i think that K&N would be the best choice......so far emiller 06-07-2005, 10:52 PM I think they all get the same results pretty much. Go with the cheapest or the color you want. squirrel 06-07-2005, 10:59 PM Like emiller states, get the one that you like the best. Its a difference of 1 maybe 2 hp at best. Plus, with all of the added weight from other mods, it all gets cancelled out anyway. erichlf 06-08-2005, 03:16 AM The K&N hangs to the middle of the wheel well. It comes with a vapor barrier. I have had mine for about 8K miles and have had no problems with moisture. I have driven through some crazy snow storms and through Oregons rain storms. deviousXA 06-08-2005, 11:02 PM what other mods would put weight on performance wise? and i dont know about you but to me 2hp is 2 more that i would like to have in a car as light as oursi mean the power to weight ratio is what its all about and 2 wheel hp is worth it to me and any how K&N is cheaper than most others including AEM & INJEN TheScionicMan 06-08-2005, 11:35 PM what other mods would put weight on performance wise? Suspension upgrades, all the braces, bars, etc. some people's wheels, ICE, lights, overlays, vinyl, tint... hehe Ok, maybe some of that won't add much but put together, some of this stuff can. I like the Progress sway bar because it's thicker, but it was also a fairly heavy piece of steel. I need a CF hood for the weight savings - to offset the weight of all the other CF I've stuck on my Box... proctorsilex 06-09-2005, 03:33 AM what about the weapon-r intakes? http://www.weapon-r.com/store/agora.cgi?cart_id=9649774.19351*ks3yR5&p_id=00018&xm=on&ppinc=search2 http://www.weapon-r.com/store/agora.cgi?cart_id=9649774.19351*Zl4CT8&p_id=00011&xm=on&ppinc=search2 http://www.weapon-r.com/store/agora.cgi?cart_id=9649774.19351*4i8XS8&p_id=0006&xm=on&ppinc=search2 personally, i'll get every bit of power i can get on my xA. i've read posts on muscle car forums in which people crap on bolt on mods. they say that those mods don't do anything. it's not that they don't; it's that they don't matter for all cars. two hp on a 2.8L Z is VERY little. 2hp on a 1.5L xA econobox means a lot more, like being able to handle a higher powered amp. the thing that gets me about the projected gains is that it's always way in the upper rpm :/ deviousXA 06-09-2005, 07:29 PM thats due to the VVT-i switching the cam lobes high up for more power im wondering if we can use a V-afc on ours like a honda seeing as thou they are basically the same thing and lower the rpm for the lobe switch |
