Default WIPER danger to paint *URGENT*READ THIS*

I cannnot take pictures at the moment

Toyota/Scion made assembly error with unknown numbers... with many or all off their wiper blade rubber/spine assemblies

I understand now exactly why these blades (many or most or all ???) are time bombs
waiting to destroy your xB roof paint.

This thread might best be made a Sticky for the time being until the problem is better sorted out.

Am composing text right now and will explain how you may tell whether your blades are ticking time bombs
.

I have found that the metal strip tends to work itself out. How does this damage the roof paint? Is toyota going to do anything about this?

guy above, I don't know what you mean by "fake"

all the details are coming out here

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...=830673#830673

I started this thread to get as many Scion people alerted as possible.

There are probably thousands of cars at risk from this assembly error

put in big font to grab every reader's attention. Go study the link and see what this is all about. It's real and you may have a problem nearly ready to damage your paint.

you'll want to check out your wipers ASAP

all depends on when and where your car was manufactured. or so I would assume . with over 16 thousand miles on my xb in a matter of 8 months my wipers are still perfect , like brand new. and yes they got lots of use in the past rainy months

Just had a Javabox chat with "Dave" of Scion.com.

I'll imageshack up some dialog boxes in a while.

Now they know about the problem and Scion Management is reading this thread, for sure!

Er, ALL Scions are manufactured in the same plant in Japan...

You may be correct that there was a manufacturing time frame with more chance for a problem, but that hasn't shown itself to be the case yet.

My xB wiper had this failure at less than 2000 miles on the odometer...

My xB wiper had this failure at less than 2000 miles on the odometer...
And Wellington's TCM (see picture of sliding insert) is about a year old

And my RS2 was purchased in April. It's blade spines are still intact, but
ready to start that slide at the first tweak of the rubber

My blade/spines have their notches oriented like this:

[ ]

and that is pretty clearly incorrect. I bend the rubber to one side and
can slip the rib out like it were a buttered noodle. Not good.

ADDED LATER: Does not matter which way the notches orient. the notch does not fit the claw of my wiper nor Tom's... and so, the spine/s can still slip out.

see the original thread (big link above) for more information

hmmm.. we'll save a lot of repaints by alerting our xB friends.

maybe it's after 05
my car is an 05 but has 04 floormats and other 04 things. i've got a half breed. i dont wanna go risk ruining my wipers to check if theyre good or not tho. if my paint gets messed up it's ok toyota will owe me a paint job. my hood , front bumper , a pillars and edge of roof could all use a nice respray. it'd give me more of a valid type complaint .

All they'd be obligated to do is fix the scratch on your roof paint.

Look, it's not to beat on them but to save -you- from pain and downtime that this drama is played up so big today.

i dont wanna go risk ruining my wipers
just buy a new set of non-Toyota wipers for the interim and put them on. 19" seems to work well. Nominally 20", but 19" fits better in than the Advance Auto Supply Stor'es "Nikei" brand "JDM carbon-look" dress-up Aero blades.

Trico, Anco also have fine products which -do not release slivver strips to whip your paint-

relax and be happy now but don't think to get off better for having allowed your paint to be scratched. Partial esprays are not guaranteed to be of full factory quality, and may age at a different rate than OEM paint applied in Japan by a robot painter.

I can't afford gas let alone wipers which shouldnt get much use and still seem to be fine. worsth case theyll respray the edge of my roof and fix a few chips in the process

OK, here's a pic I took of mine a while back:

(This is a portion of an image taken for another reason - I was trying to track down the manufacturer of the windshield - but it clearly shows the blade insert spline escaping on my xB.)
