View Full Version : What exhaust to pick.... xBox05 06-08-2005, 08:21 PM Hey everyone, I was trying to decide which brand of exhaust to put on my 05 xB. What do my fellow xB owners reccomend??? Thanks! :P xBino 06-08-2005, 08:30 PM what are your requiremtents? that's a good start TheScionicMan 06-08-2005, 08:43 PM I like my magnaflow axleback from www.precisionmuffler.com The oval muffler they use for the auto model looks good and sounds good, IMO. Doesn't drone at freeway speeds like a lot of the canister type mufflers do. And the price is nice too. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v250/thescionicman/BOX%20XOB/parkinglot-2.jpg eXciteBox 06-08-2005, 09:05 PM ^^^ my Gen. 2 manual axleback from www.precisionmuffler.com should be here by thursday. ive heard soundclips of it and it sounds great, plus it looks awesome. $290 shipped isnt bad either so you may want to considre that. Prototype_xB 06-08-2005, 09:09 PM the DC sports on my RS2 sounds perfect. So i'd just have to suggest that. The only other exhaust i've owned was a tanabe SRM on my turbocharged 02 civic, but it had a *tuners tone* meaning it let you know it wasn't a slow car, which wouldn't go well with the box IMO TheDanger 06-08-2005, 09:10 PM I love my Strup exhaust,,,deep rumble and great looks http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/thedanger/Strup5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/thedanger/exhaust2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/thedanger/IM000175r.jpg Dewmerz 06-08-2005, 10:23 PM moved 06-08-2005, 11:19 PM xBox05, PM me and lets see what we can do for you. :D squirrel 06-08-2005, 11:31 PM I would go w/ either Strup, Injen or Magnaflow. The cheapest route is Magnaflow. Their Street Series ovals can be had for a good price online and installed at a shop that provides the piping for around $200 total. Performance Peddler has some good prices on Magnaflow. I have a custom Magnaflow exhaust on my xB thanks to Michael's Mufflers, and will go w/ Strup or Injen on the xA. Amerhicka 06-08-2005, 11:56 PM I drove a RS2.0 and I did like the DC tunable. I went with the Borla pipe cause I've always wanted their product. It is a low note and about the same loudness as the DC, no tuner farting/raspiness. I think it has the best looking tip and will probably outlast the car. My first two tanks of gas with the stock muffler returned mpgs of 34.7 and 35.6 while the latest tank with the Borla let out 39.7! I'm sure there are other factors but one of the biggest advantages is the exhaust is nicer to listen to at highway speeds than the buzzy engine. They have good pics of it at Borla's website, it was $300 shipped from Cali, and I put it on myself in about 25 minutes. xBino 06-09-2005, 12:19 AM i really like the DC sports mine came with. can't complain as it came stock. has a nice low note and pops when i downshift. i mean seriously, i think i could've done way worse from a stock muffler firesquare 06-09-2005, 06:25 AM i have a blitz on my xB but i would go with Strup! Lip 06-10-2005, 10:26 AM well Strup of course. check sponsors section hotbox05 06-10-2005, 11:25 AM custom blows all other systems out of the water . more performance , cheaper , you can get any tip you want and you can make it loud or near stock sounding. 06-10-2005, 11:25 PM I hope we all helped with your decision and we see a pic soon. :D eXciteBox 06-13-2005, 06:28 PM holy crap the Gen 2 precision mufflers axle back sounds AMAZING. i put it on myself in my friends driveway. lots of bass and NO resonation. tone almost dissapears at cruising speed. and the popping! it pops between shifts and slowing down and NEVER gets annoying. i LOVE it. ill post pics soon. 06-13-2005, 06:47 PM eXciteBox, I can't wait for the pics!!! I wanna see!! :D ScionSniper 06-13-2005, 06:54 PM Well, I was the prototype for the Auto Axleback and now I'm running the only known (as far as we can tell) passanger side exiting exhaust system. Stylis does great work and can really design them! 2fixA 06-13-2005, 10:05 PM Precision Muffler, you've seen every one else who has one and how happy they are with it. Gabe definitely treats people right and creates a solid product Simplyscion 06-13-2005, 11:20 PM Magnaflow all the way...nice deep sounding free flow exhaust. eXciteBox 06-14-2005, 01:09 AM heres pics of my Gen. 2 axle back from precision muffler: *trumpets blare* http://img198.echo.cx/img198/3378/cimg01736vr.jpg http://img198.echo.cx/img198/2616/cimg01691ea.jpg http://img198.echo.cx/img198/4466/cimg01662ju.jpg http://img198.echo.cx/img198/3074/cimg01650ox.jpg http://img198.echo.cx/img198/777/cimg01713we.jpg http://img198.echo.cx/img198/3040/cimg01725mp.jpg         WRxB 06-14-2005, 01:27 AM Sweet !!!!!!!! hotbox05 06-14-2005, 01:54 AM I hate that man. these arent drifters. theyre fwd. I just don't get it. oh well.. imo the muffler shouldnt be pointed upwards and out at an angle but that's just me. hotbox05 06-14-2005, 01:55 AM oh hey sice yer exhaust isn't tucked up next to the body you can remove that heatsheild and get a very slight weight savings!!!! 06-14-2005, 04:04 PM I hate that man. these arent drifters. theyre fwd. I just don't get it. oh well.. imo the muffler shouldnt be pointed upwards and out at an angle but that's just me. Apples and oranges Darren. Thats why I have a lot of different axle back styles. Hope you can understand that. :D alexw1 06-14-2005, 04:21 PM questionable cosmetic quality on my strup. if you buy, look over good prior to installation. good sound though. eXciteBox 06-14-2005, 07:16 PM everybody is entitled to their opinion. theres no law that says angled mufflers are only for drift cars. in my opinion the precision muffler axle back looks and sound good :P. it being angled to the side is an added bonus to me. it sits flat so when i lower it it wont drag amd it was a breeze to install! 987KEITH 06-15-2005, 04:18 PM Stylis- Do you make the Gen2 to come straight out instead of angled? 06-15-2005, 05:07 PM Stylis- Do you make the Gen2 to come straight out instead of angled? Would you preffer a gen2 style muffler coming straight out? PM me for details. :D Chikubi 06-16-2005, 05:40 AM I just put an Espelir JGT500 on my box and definitely recommend it -- great build quality, really low JDM bass'y tone w/ nice racecar off-throttle burbling, engine doesn't seem to bog down under loads like hills, etc. like before and feels smoother overall, excellent price, and great looks. I dunno, works for me. Rigley 06-16-2005, 07:46 AM Don't forget the GReddy option. A little more money, about $350, but if you want performance without the noise this is it. It sounds stock at idol and low rumble with reving or gassing. Best of all you can hear the stereo all the time with no poping or cracking. My car is dropped now on tanabe NF210 with no problem. http://www.scionlife.com/gallery/data/500/rearView2.jpg hotbox05 06-16-2005, 10:24 AM everybody is entitled to their opinion. theres no law that says angled mufflers are only for drift cars. i There should be a law. cgxeagle006 06-16-2005, 12:15 PM http://www.scionlife.com/gallery/data/500/6384exhaust1.JPG My precisionmuffler.com manual axleback 06-18-2005, 12:33 AM http://www.scionlife.com/gallery/data/500/6384exhaust1.JPG My precisionmuffler.com manual axleback Gotta love the axle back. :D Laurent 06-20-2005, 07:18 AM I have the Borla exhaust and I am loving it. Romanova 06-24-2005, 11:08 PM Don't waste your money on the Blitz. It isn't the same that Nomuraken uses. It looks awesome, but the sound just isn't there. XBvitoXB 06-25-2005, 01:03 PM heres a video sound clip of the Blitz ( http://rs-scooby.com/albums/album37/Untitled.wmv ) IMO i think it sounds good .. FrankenScion 06-25-2005, 01:51 PM I had a club member with the Blitz, it sounded like a fart can on the highway. Side by side with the Strup there was no comparison. Romanova 06-25-2005, 02:11 PM heres a video sound clip of the Blitz ( http://rs-scooby.com/albums/album37/Untitled.wmv ) IMO i think it sounds good .. The Blitz does not sound like a fartcan at all. It really doesn't sound like anything... it is barely louder than stock. It does have a very nice tone, just quiet. Probably the rest of the exhaust system choking it. FrankenScion 06-25-2005, 02:16 PM All i know is when i drove behind him on the highway it sounded like crap. He promptly took the Blitz off and replaced it with Strup after he heard mine and it no longer sounds like crap. glen619 11-07-2005, 08:02 PM It is pretty loud. I just installed one on my xB last weekend. I stuck the silencer in it. Now it is very quiet. Almost too quiet.. but it was damn loud without the silencer. One thing to mention, at freeway speed with a 5 speed tranny, it is quiet without the silencer. When you get on it... it will roar. It is not ricey. Very low rumble. |
