Here's an idea... Kind of in the rough stages and I have no way of being able to pull it off, but maybe someone would...
Bend and warp the xAs xBs and tCs of various colors, etc into a map of the US (Colorado would be easy...xB) Idaho, not so much... But use the 3 models, the Scion logo and maybe a couple other choice elements that are Scion related to make a full map of the US.
THEN, make California slightly larger and closer up but have the outline of the state filled with a couple SWEET pics of a tricked out xA xB and tC.
LONGO'S logo could go anywhere pretty much... Billboards are rectangular and the U.S. isn't...
SLOGAN: (Would need to do the research, but)
"(#) SCIONS SOLD IN THE U.S. SINCE (DATE) AND IT ALL STARTED HERE. SCION - WHAT MOVES YOU? 2006 MODELS NOW AVAILABLE."
Here's an image of California that could perhaps be utilized in my idea, or California could be done on it's own and "Built" out of the shapes of multiple Scions kind of like lego pieces or Tetris blocks.
revolutionary.. or beautiful (change the words around)

Guys, later on this week I will post pics of our existing billboard. The prizes are gonna be great.......cant spill the beans on that yet. We will have Inn N Out burgers serving food, DJ Icey Ice from 93.5 KDAY spinning, a car show and some celebrity judges. I will post more info in regards to the pics. What we are looking for is a replacement design for our Billboard. All entrants must submit their drawing, rendering, creation to this thread. At the end of the contest, we will have the community of Scionlife choose the top 5. Those top 5 winners will then go to Longo Scion to collect their prizes. All entrants must be 21 or older (hint hint to prize).

AGH! I got sooo interested in this until I juss read that you need to be 21 or over. Sometimes young kids got talent too! Maybe I'll juss submit anyways. I bet you its like a private jet to Las Vegas for the weekend or some other vacational area which involves alcohol or gambling. HORRIBLE! I think this is contest is WAY to biased. Why not just 18? Are you going to force feed the winner Alchohol? Why only Cali? If you can afford the prizes you can afford one round trip plane ticket to Cali.
This is POO! If you want the best, include more people, the world extends beyond California people! COME ON! California gets a billboard contest, and everyone else gets a "send me a licence plate" contest. Humph! :nope:

Here is what I am working on. as it says it's only 80% done, but I wanted to post it now since I wont be able to work on it more until tonight, and start getting peoples feedback. Have to add the Longo logo, and the xA I have is great but its really a low res pic compared to the rest of the pieces. I am looking for a higher res xA picture now. So that might get changed. Also have a bit of detail to work in the background. But this gives everyone an idea of what I'm doing.

Why did I think the deadline to submit the artwork was today (July 1st)? Oh well I guess that gives me more time to finish this one and maybe even design a second one! I was rushing for nothing. Hey Biohazard, np putting your xB, it's a great pic.
Side Note: I still need any pics you guys want to send me of any Scion. I am currently working on the gallery section for House Of Scion, and I am always looking for new pics to use in graphic work that I do for different shops. Just like Biohazard you just might stumble across your ride in an ad or on a b-card! More than anything I need more xA pics. I know you xA's are out there!
I'm finishing the first one, and working on 1 more that I hope I can finish. EIther everyone is really waiting till the last minute or I guess not too many entries. Yo Signal, where you at bro? Your's should be hot.

Just an FYI for the entrants, admins, Longo, etc.
If you created your design in a vector program (Illustrator) or in a CAD program you can probably resize your design for a billboard and you won't lose any image quality.
On the other hand, if your using photos, make sure they are at a super-high enough resolution so that when you print it out at 10 ft by 15 ft. it won't be ridiculously pixelated.
WHY? Because if it was created at 7.5" by 11.25" (letter size) at a resolution of 300 pixels per inch, the final design would be 10' x 15' at a resolution of ~20 pixels per inch which is extremely low resolution and unrecognizable on a billboard. Its like taking an old Nintendo game and putting it on a billboard. Huge colored boxes but no real image. If the image was off the web, don't even try to print it as a billboard.
I'm not a professional, just trying to let everyone ahead of time what problems may occur when the printer gets the files.

72dpi @ full size should work fine. More than likely it will be on a lightjet, which will look very nice.

07-13-2005, 12:32 PM
yeah at really large print sizes, you might be surprised at how low the resolution of the output can be. I've seen large format prints that look great from just a few feet away, but upon close inspection they are at 40 - 50 dpi. At large sizes people won't be close enough most of the time to notice. Signal is right anything at 72 or higher should be fine. My second piece is in 3D, which I can re-render if I have to at any res. The first piece I started pretty big, it shouldnt be a problem either. I've been in the auto industry for about 8 years now, but I've been doing computer based design for about 11 years. I used to run the art department for a company in Anaheim, and before that I worked as an art production assistant.

Some individuals may have advantages who are members of any clubs over those who are not. IMO. Names or any affiliation to the designs should not be included during the contest & voting process. I've seen this dont on other sites and proves to be more unbiased. It wont work this time but maybe next time.

same. from a marketing standpoint, it's very visual; the colors are gorgeous, eye-catching, and an attention grabbing. exactly what i would look for to promote using a large-scale advertising vehicle like a billboard.

On the contrary, Rich aka SignalxB seems to be doing very well REGARDLESS of club affiliation/anonimity. He has DEFINITELY PROVEN to ALL that club affiliation/anonimity has NOTHING to do with a contest.
GREAT JOB Rich aka SignalxB!!!
Rich aka Slickrick is a great fella out of Minnesota, have had the privilege to speak with him, a professional definitely as expressed through one critic here as "from a marketing standpoint...what i would look for to promote using a large-scale advertising vehicle like a billboard."
AWESOME JOB Rich aka Slickrick!!!
I've personally never been one to enter contests. I really just enjoy hanging out with my friends and taking wacky pictures, that's all I'm known for and that's all I do.

Just wondering, is that clear looking hood on FlintTC324 design available, or was that some type of photochop? Either way...nice stuff...

Actually there are clear hoods that have been made for a few cars, but they are really show only. The one on the tC is just photoshop, its a VIS carbon OE hood, I took 2 pics of the car at the same angle, one with the hood open, one closed. Its the same trick a few magazines have used for cover shots of different cars. There really isnt anything Photoshop cant do to pics, with some imagination from the user.
wow too bad you didnt make it in time, you would have gotten votes for sure!

The winner was SignalxB, who did an awesome job. Longo said they were blown away by his entry. I took second place (yay for me!), and HawaiianBuilt took 3rd. Longo also said all of the entries were really great, and they were really happy people put time and effort into their submissions. A fun contest indeed, and it had a worthy 1st place winner.
Congrats Signal!!!

I thought they wre picking the top 3 from the voting.
If that was the case Hawaiianbuilt would have won 2 places.
Oh well, congrats to the winners.

Our votes were to determine the top three, as stated by them. Then the dealer was to pick the winner from the top three. Flint was not in the top three, simple as that.

From what I can see, there can be a couple explainations here. Number one is that you had to be present at the event. I didn't see anyone else come to the front except me, HawaiianBuilt, and SignalxB. It seems they knew that a few of the contestants were not coming beforehand. Based on what I was told anyway. Number two is that if they tallied the votes based on how many each individual got for the sum of their entries, then I came in third to get into the top 3. HB would have got the most votes for the sum of his two entries, and Signal the second most with his single entry. Once the top 3 were in place, then Longo choose the order according to who's work they liked the best.
If I am totally off base here, then someone please correct me. I had made it known that I didnt originally expect to win, but Longo assured me that it was all legit. I wouldnt want anything I didnt deserve, but again, I was told I was supposed to be in the top 3, and they choose one of my entries for second place, and one of HawaiianBuilts for third.
In my opinion Signal won because he had the best entry, period. It looked the most professional, and looked like he put time and effort into what a billboard piece should look like. There was nothing that said all 3 vehicles needed to be featured in the piece.
HawaiianBuilt seemed to be content with the decision, and I don't see any of the other people who entered arguing the decision. But if it came down to that I would be willing to go along with any other decision Longo made. In the meantime I will defend my win and my prizes.

My apologies for not being clearer. I should have said "my second place win".
But actually if you look a few replies back, I clearly stated that Signal was the 1st place winner.

It did seem kinda hectic at the event, but I think everything went accordingly. Only 3 contestants showed up and 3 places were given based on Penske's final decision.
