Brand new owner
Hi all!
I just purchased my new '05 Scion xB. Am I happy? There isn't an emoticon with a big enough smile to express it.
I've been reading posts and, I think it's clear that I've made a wise choice.
I'm not the typical xb purchaser, I'm sure. I'm a 55 year old female elementary school teacher. But I've wanted this car for a while, my '96 Grand Caravan getting on in years and becoming less reliable. I wanted a Toyota and was looking at Camrys, as they seem to be one of the cars of choice among my peers. I knew I wanted a Toyota because of their reputation. I know of some very old ones out there with many many miles on the odometers. I looked into and test drove a Camry and was really ho-hum bored with it. I first read about the tC and went to see it. I don't like a 2-door car and it felt small inside (coming from the Caravan). Then I checked out the xB and it was love at first sight. This would be my new car. I'd get just the basic and throw in the $55 for the cargo cover.
I did some shopping at the several local Toyota dealers and thought maybe I'd get a used one to save some money. HA!!!!! If they had any used ones they were accessorized and cost more than the new ones.
Then one dealer had one in the showroom. 2005, black, "certified pre-owned" with 4,516 miles on it. Six cd changer and floor mats were the extras. I groaned. I knew this would be another out of my reach. I asked how much and was quoted $14,900. Hey!!! Cheaper than the $15,100 I was going to pay with the cargo cover!! And it came with an extended warranty and 24/7 roadside service. as a "certified" car. Wow! They'll even give me food and hotel money if I breakdown more thn 150 miles from home. At least for the first year.
Went to see it and it was beautiful. I asked for the key and sat in it in the showroom and played with all the things I could play with without turning the engine on. Then I discovered the remote door lock and had to play with that. Lock....unlock.....lock.....unlock....lock.....unlock. Cool!
I gave him my deposit and they took it out of the showroom. Then next day I test drove. Yes! I wanted it. This was definitely my car! I cannot wait to return to school on Monday and show it off.
I'm completely enjoying reading all the posts here. A lot of them contain rather technical terminology and acronyms that I don't understand, but you folks really have a lot of great information to share. Most of all, you've confirmed that I made a great decision in my choice of car. I'll keep reading.

Congratulation and welcome to the board!! I agree, the people on this board have so much information...if it was not for them, my xB would still be pretty much stock. Never a day goes by that I do not learn something when I log in! I have actually printed out many of the posts and keep them in my file cabinet.
Enjoy your xB!!
Enjoy your xB!!

Glad you like it. they're really great little cars. if anything gets too technical on the site just ask and I know someone will be able to clarify it for ya. we're always willing to help somebody out.
A big welcome to the forum, gelopee. I'm new here myself, and actually haven't even picked up my newly ordered xB (7 days!), but I've already ordered Tein coilovers, front and rear sway bars, and looking for some 19's to complete it for the moment. I'm surprised how fast the aftermarket has grown for these.

Congrats on your new wheels. I know the feeling you're experiencing in your xB. Mine arrived on May 19th -- and I remember its arrival, as if it were a birthday. I washed it again this week (twice, thanks to the daily dead bug splatters!) and then waxed it. No car of mine has ever been pampered like this.
Welcome!!!! Driving an XB is awesome. I havent been able to drive for 2 months ( back injury) but I get to ride in it to the DR with Hubby driving. Boy I miss my car. Cant wait til I get the all clear next week and get behind the wheel of my Lil Box
Hello, and welcome to the club.
Cograts on you new XB.
I too am from Long Island and I too am in your age range.
I think more XB owners are older than what Toyota was reaching for.
Last week I was in Tampa, and I saw many an XB with most owners a lot older than us.
Good Luck , and enjoy.

Thanks everyone for all the welcomes and congratulations. I'd have posted sooner but I spent the weekend driving all over the place. You know, like grocery shopping. "Oops, forgot the bread. Better go back." "Oh, no! I didn't get cat food! Have to run to the store." "Rats! I need one more avocado for the guacamole. Be right back." etc., etc..... Showing off the car to a few people, taking turns sitting in all the seats, and of course, playing all my cds.
I had lots of fun picking out the first six cds. Here's what I chose: Rolling Stones "Let it Bleed," Dire Straits "Live at Wembly Stadium" (with Eric Clapton guest guitarist), "Essential Santana" disc1 (this was the best with those drum beats!) Bruce Springsteen "Live in NYC" "Live at Mountain Stage Louisiana disc and one of some favorites I put together myself. If there are any funny noises in the car I didn't hear them.....LOL. Did anyone else agonize over what to play first?
Pixelgod, I absolutely love the bus. I tried to copy it to print it out, but just can't manage to do it. I'll keep working on it. One of my classes is planning a field trip to the parking lot tomorrow to check out Mrs. L's car.
My son, 29 came home two years ago and told me about the new car that was only available in California that he test drove in NYC. He had me go to the Scion.com site to check it out. He told me then, "I want that car!" I thought it was ugly. My boyfriend is 6'2" He loves it. It fits him perfectly. I'm 5'1" and it fits me perfectly, too. Amazing. His 14 year old son, who hated it before, was a believer after we turned the first corner on his test drive. His 13 year old sister piled 3 friends in it in the driveway. She rolled down the window, pushed back the seat, one arm stretched to the steering wheel, one arm out the window, hip hop music on the radio blasting and bopping her head. She looked perfect in the pose. If they keep the model a few more years I guarantee a couple of new buysers.
Thanks Vito. I suppose you had to sell this car to someone. I'm glad it was me. I'll be in touch.
Thanks again everyone. Sorry for going on and on. I'm really excited.
