Default turbo??feel the power..lol

These xBs would be so great if they had more power and a bigger gas tank geez.........i swear..........u gotta fill up all the damn time..Screw these get a hummer haha make it an H1!!!So I was wondering..ok..if u put chrome wheels on one, wouldnt it make it even slower and use more gas cuz its heavier?? whoever made these needs to be slapped....

That is very true. I was looking at a supercharger for about $2500. I would love to buy it, but no time soon. I am not sure if it would burn more gas or not. I imagine it would. I am still waiting for my rims to come in. I guess I will find out in a few.

only in stop-go driving. at steady speeds weight is not a milage penalty.

On rough roads the extra weight in wheels makes a direct penalty on milege due to the energy absorbtion of the dampers (shock absorbers) and springs.

see how this works? and the lighter the wheel, the more adroitly it steps over bumps.

on the other hand, a large diameter wheel, if it is equally light, steps over potholes a lot better than it's smaller brother.

now, understanding this last fact, you see why early autos sported tires as large as 44 " diameter. And bicycles today still take advantage of the large wheel's smoother ride. Ah, but they stay very narrow to reduce the rolling resistance, and light in weight, to reduce the amount of energy needed to acccelerate and brake the wheel. Mountain bikes with 12" wheels are not much seen, huh? But cars can work on 13" wheels very well because they have the excess power to drive fat, soft tires up out of pot holes and down the road. Humans don't have more than about 1/10th HP steady-state. Not enough to handle fat, soft tires or grades while rolling excess weight; not like the tireless IC engine, anyway.

Yes, you'd -tend- to burn more fuel. The charger is a compressor.. Compressors absorb some power, right? That power comes from your gasoline. You're likely to drive with a heavy foot in a 'charged car. That takes up more gasoline yet.

The chargers- super, or turbo, work by increasing the compression in the engine. That is, the pressure packs a more dense charge of air and fuel into each cylinder at full throttle.

The "compression ratio" does not alter, but the -total compression- sure does!
In effect it is much like a higher compression ratio.

In result you gotta use a higher octane gasoline in a 'charged engine. Why?

Because otherwise you get excessive detonation.

what is detonation (ping)?

I have to deal with a lot of stop and go driving out here. It's ridiculous.

actually no, chrome wheels wont give you worse MPG, it actually depends really, i believe the stock wheels are 30 something lbs, they make alot of light weight wheels that run as low as 17 lbs or so, so thats a huge difference in rotational mass, other things like width of the wheel and tire play a large roll in mpg, the fatter the wheel and tire, the slower it will go, but the more traction you will have. i hope this helps!
