Well guys we came up to visit our good friends at Buschur Racing and decided to take the Scion to the track. This is the first time that we have had the car on the 1/4 mile.

We posted some good numbers this is on a stage 1 bolt on kit w/external running a little more boost at 14 psi. We are currently running some M&H slicks but they where not heat cycled. We just want to let everyone know what would be needed tp duplicate these times with one of our kits.

We made three consecutive passes at:
12.12@114
12.19@113
12.28@113

What is the fastest tC using the back it up rule?

believe the jotech tc ran a 10sec 1/4 mile...then agaqin it had 30psi

Yeah we have no idea, We maybe getting a little excited either way this car only has under 400 whp we feel this really show how well the 16g utilizes the tC pwoerband to create a very fast street car.

Scionspeed ran a 12sec 1/4 mile

Yes but to be "offical" it needs to be backed up with a run within a 1/10 a sec. This is to prevent any one hit wonders. Some think this is a good rule some think it is BS either way it is what the rest of the world uses.

We will post the slips when we get back to our shop in the KY.

Great video, sounds awesome... I think with a couple more practice runs you can definitly get that 1.9 sec reaction time down to place you in the 11 second range.

Is there anything else on the car?

Scion Speed's car has their stage 3 as well as a protoype dual exhaust system and ran 12.

I wonder if the Scionspeed car had slicks or not?

In any case, 12.1-2 is pretty good for a second stage turbo in comparison..

VIP_tC
06-16-2005, 12:10 AM
Yeah the scionspeed car was running slicks (unsure on the size though), it also dynoed at like 420hp or somewhere near there...

Nice Vid ZPI! Please do fill us in on what other mods were done to the car (clutch, exhaust, etc.)

ZPIracing
06-16-2005, 12:55 AM
This car is not very heavily modified like you may think. We do not change turbos go to the track to run good numbers.

Stage 1 turbo kit...just like you buy nothing special
38mm external
manual boost controller
Clutch Masters Clutch
Fidanza Flywheel
Tein S-tech springs
Open Downpipe
14 psi
Boost Gauge
Wideband
Extra Emanage tuning to compensate the boost.

Thats it, this car is at the shop everyday and can be verified by Dave Buschur and John Shephard today. These two are very well known so I am sure there credability is enough.

Thanks

I imagine the flywheel, boost controller, and open downpipe are quite a bit of help; still, that's pretty damn fast for an approximately 600 dollar set up (fly + controller). I don't think you'd have to pay for an open downpipe to be honest..

I can't wait to see how fast the ZPI stage 2 will run.

I also can't wait til ScionSpeed makes a bunch of stuff to try and beat it! Dare I say, capitalism at work?

I don't think they were running that much power at the track when they ran the 12.0. The 12.0 was run with 14.5psi.

Difference between stage 0 and stage 1 also consists of components:

stage 1 has that stage 0 doesn't:

FMIC

Injectors

Emanage

Patch Harness

You can upgrade your stage 0 and you'll basically have a stage 1 but stage 1 also comes with a different fuel map to make the best use of all this extra stuff.

VIP_tC
06-16-2005, 04:16 AM
FMIC = Intercooler :D

Also the stage 0 has emanage.

We will try to keep the prices as low as we can. With all the recent interest in making kits for these cars we will all have to stay around the same prie.

That's a fast mofo TC. If I got that Stage 1, is it possible to make it not sound like that? I'd like a deep exhaust, not that open sound to it. Is it the exhaust, the down pipe, or the external wastegate that is making it sound like that? Also last thing, if I didn't have a down pipe on it like that one, would I pass smog tests?

VIP_tC
06-16-2005, 07:19 PM
That car has a dump pipe on it (exhaust actually ends after the turbo downpipe) - no long piping, no mufflers, no tips, etc. Very loud that way - but makes the most power. A street setup would sound much different :)

nester
06-16-2005, 07:21 PM
If you're going for quiet, i'd recommend doing the internal gate, or piping the external back into the exhaust tract..

On the ZPI test mule, the external is dumping out right behind the front bumper..

Also, the stock exhaust is on the car, but the S pipe has been removed.. any sort of decent exhaust shop should be able to get you a bigger diameter pipe with a decent muffler.. to give you the permformance without being extremely loud..

Personally, I think the car sounds rowdy in person... it's a little loud but not too loud.. And I subscribe to the Loud Pipes Save Lives thinking..

As for SMOG, no idea.. they don't even sniff tail pipes here anymore, emissions testing was voted out.. I'd say it would pass a sniffer, but i doubt it would pass a visual inspection.

toastbox
06-16-2005, 08:39 PM
Lol, if it's dumping right behind the front bumper, there's no way it would pass a visual inspection, at least not in VA :)

I think i'll be ordering one in the distant future when I make my tC a play car.

Just a few tips... when you make a video, please use a tripod.
Secondly, please do not add in Linkin Park for music... on second thought, don't add in any music. Thirdly, start from halfway down the track so that the car does a fly by. This gives the audience a better sense of how fast the car is going rather than watching it from behind. =)

Awesome product tho.

Thanks for all the good words. We will be going back to the track tonight in Cincy to hang out with our Scion buddies and hopefully run 11's.

This car is loud, on the production kit the external dumps into the exhaust, and it is routed back into the stock exhaust. We have a catback that we will be releasing by the end of the day. Stay tuned for video and pricing as the day goes on.

We will continue to bring you unsurpassed quality with a price that we can both live with, if you all continue the support. We feel the Scion community is awesome and we are glad that we are such a big part of it.

Thanks,

-Kenny

when are the free kits releasing?!??! :P haha just kidding

raamaudio
06-17-2005, 04:32 PM
No free kit for me, I do not ask for free stuff because seldom is anything really free;)

I am retired from the Military and I do not sign contracts to appear at so many shows, etc, etc, I come and go as I please and will keep it that way.

I do get great hookups on what I want to use, not what I can get the best deal on and do get a few things free without a contract but that is rare.

Nothing in life is really free, we pay for it one way or another, sponsorships come with alot of responsibility, for those that give me a great deal, I do all I can to support them, online, on the street, at shows, races, usually get in at least one magazine though sometimes small coverage.

My last car was never finished as I sold it to help a disabled buddy that was in a really bad way, this was right before SS was going to do a feature article on it but my buddy was more important to me. I was in the New York Times though, just a paragraph as part of a bigger story:)

Sorry for drifting so far off topic on your thread Kenny, just wanted to enlighten a few about sponsorship reality and responsibility as I know you get hit up all the time.

Now back to the prime time news, let us know how tonight goes, we are all rooting for an 11 second run, or two or three:):)

Question for ZPI.. Is this turbo Cross-platform? I mean can it fit into a camry. I am under taking a project and well it is hard to find something that will work right. I asked TPR (Tuner Performance Report) if they had any clue about this they said it would be some work. It is also harder for me becuase I live in germany and work for the military, getting parts over here is not exactly easy. So if you could please help me out here it would be great.

matty-tC

turbos can work on any platform. what you need is the manifold and piping. the rest will work (injectors, fpr, bov, wastegate, management, etc.)

djmase
06-21-2005, 04:31 PM
The only difference between the scion tC and the Camry is the intake and exhaust. Now I know that I have a lot more room to work with in my car than the scion tC. I can get an german engineered exhaust here that is no problem, my problem is that I am a noob!. Still learning things here, working on with my friend on his skyline to learn a little more about how a turbo works. Visuals work for me good.

I think he meant the manifold, cause if that doesn't fit, who cares about the rest.

And the real answer is that if the manifold doesn't have clearance issues and you can bolt up the turbo, you might just have to adjust the IC and intake piping as well as the downpipe.

matty-tC
06-21-2005, 08:21 PM
be careful with coolant lines for ATF, AC compressors, etc. etc. etc.

i'm sure they're probably in different locations between the camry and tC

djmase
06-21-2005, 08:53 PM
I think it is because it is on a larger body. For the first time today I have seen a tC here in germany! wohoo! I need to have a closer look at how the engine is seated in a tc stock so I Can see the difference. If you all could help me out this would be great. I think I am one of the first to play with the Camry and try this crazy thing.

Speaking of same engines....how about a ZPI Stage 2 Turbo AWD 5spd Rav4  Now that would be fun. :) As long as there is room and the engine is oriented in the engine bay the same (exhaust towards the front), it should work.
