Ipod and XB
Couple ways to do this...
1) RF Transmitter... kinda sketchy in terms of clear reception quality and the sound fidelity can be pretty bad. the tape adapter for cassette players sounded so much better. these can be had for as little as $25
2) AUX adapter (e.g. PIE TOY03-AUX, etc.). sounds great, you can DIY by removing the stock stereo and plugging in the cable, but you have no ipod control through your HU. this'll run you about $70
3) dedicated iPod controller. lots of choices here. look up reviews on different ones and see what fits the bill in terms of price and features. if you've got an iPod, i would go this route imo. costs more, but it's a lot more convenient for the iPod user
g'luck and congrats on the new ride! :D

Another option is to just get an 06 xB with the iPod ready HU in it, but you probably don't feel like waiting, I know I wouldn't.
What I'm going to do is see if the 06 HU can fit in my 04 xB. I'm hoping they'll wire the same way.

First off, I've read in several places that the HU on the 06 xB is not compatible. You can wait and see, but I dont think its supposed to work out on 05's or 04's. Just a heads up.
Secondly, I just recently purchased the DLO transmitter from Circuit City and am very pleased with it. Even Matches my PW box! Ran me 108 bucks after tax.
I originally didnt want a transmitter after seeing Itrip work, but bit the bullet and went with it as its cheaper. Plugs into the lighter, continuously charges, swivels so that its accessible by driver or passenger.
Reasons i didnt try out a direct connect with the HU is I heard they react slow when trying to scroll through songs. That would be a major pain to me...this DLO set up I think its the easiest to ''isntall'' and most cost efficient.
One more thing...with DLO you can take the transmitter and set up with you to a friends car...something thats impossible with a direct connect to the HU...just some food for thought.

I put a pioneer unit in my xB. What a difference even with the factory speakers!!! we opted for the iPOD cable to plug into the back of the pioneer and it is great. Full control of the iPOD. It just sits in the glove box now unless we bring it in to update the songs. Our unit was 269. (huh, huh, huh, you said 'unit' huh, huh) sorry, poor beavis impersonation...

if you get an aftermarket deck you can get the mini jack to rca wire and run it trhu yer aux input. you'd have to use the ipod to control it tho. but it'd only be like 10.00 for the cable.
I still like my setup. I got an aftermarket receiver with aux jacks in the back and ran a Monster rca/male cable down into the easy bake and sit my player in there.
Course it's not an ipod so I don't have many choices on controlling it from the headunit itself

It's going to be a lot easier with an aftermarket head unit.
I've got the alpine setup and like it a lot.
My brother ran an RCA-3.5mm cable from the back of his Pioneer head unit and plugged it into the line out on an iPod dock on the shelf above his head unit. He also ran a charger to the cigarette lighter (we're going to splice it into the back in the future) so he can charge it while he drives. This is a good solution for people with older head units or who don't want to buy a dedicated iPod interface.
