Default do car covers scratch the paint?

are car covers safe for your paint? won't scratch?
I'd like to get one to protect my car from the birds, but i've never had any experience with a car cover.
thanks for any help

If you keep the car clean before you put on the cover you will be okay.

Me personally I believe car covers scratch paint . Main reason I beleive this is , the minute your vehicle is out side its already getting debris on the paint from blowing winds and so forth , driving down the road etc etc etc . Now you bring the vehicle home that has this nice mix of dust , bugs , possibly sand depending on where you live . and throw a car cover on top of your vehicle . Last I checked we dont have the hardest paint in the world . When you put a cover on your usually pulling it here and adjusting it there , means the cover is going over your paint and the debris is between the cover and paint . Will it leave obvious scratches at first , I dont think so . Long term I say your paint will suffer from the constant abrasion . Just my take on it .

imo, again, if the car has dirt on it, the cover will etch that dirt from the activity of taking it on and off. if the car is clean, in and of itself, the cover won't.

put a cover on a dirty car and the stress points of the cover will etch....not that noticeable though.

thanks for the help guys
I was thinking the same thing about if the car was dusty then it would scratch.
I think i wash my car often enough that it wont be that big of a problem, and I'd like to keep the bird turd off my car.
theres alot of different car covers, is there a big difference between them?

The actual scion tc car cover is pretty nice, 3 layers, waterproof, very soft underside, and a window for your rear plate.
