Default turbo help>?

i have decided that i would like to turbocharge my car over supercharging it, just because of the difference in power gains for the price..... this guy helped me make up my mind also.. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=69643 ...
but anyways, i am def a newbie to the turbocharged world... im 16, and would justl ike to know what i would need.... i was thinking about the tsi extreme kit from turbokits.com, minus all the electronics.... for that i was going to use the camcon unit..... but i really dont know anything about why we need electronics, and what else i would need..............can somebody help me out with what i need and stuff..... also if anybody lives in CT and would know somebody that professionally installs turbos and stuff, i would greatly appreciate it.............thanks............

Honestly...you shouldnt make up your mind due to that thread because the gains that they were achieving are kind of unheard of for safe everyday driving. The motor wont really handle anything more than 6psi daily. If you are gonna get the TSI kit talk to lastlookcustoms...We both are running that kit so if you have any questions about it feel free to ask us. Just think this through before you actually go ahead and do it, thats all I will say for now

there are a lot of things you need to consider when turbocharging an NA car.

You need to really consider what you use is going to be for the car. What kind of goals do you have. One of the bigges things you need to figure is a realistic budget. Many people get into a turbo setup and run out of money half way through it.

There are dozens of turbos out there. Choose a place that does a lot with turbo systems and understands the differences in each turbo. *wink* *wink* lol.

But in all seriousness, take the time to do the research and make sure you do your homework before you even get started.

Take if from a guy that has boosted damn near everything on wheels, including go-karts lol. Turbos can kick some serious ___ but when setup the wrong way they are more trouble than it is worth.

If you have any specific questions please feel free to hit the AIM button or PM below.

Minus the MOST IMPORTANT STUFF?? Before you have trouble deciding what you want, you need to do your research and learn what's what and why you need this and that.

If you decide to go with no electronics and just bolt on a turbo, then you fall in the cliche' of people that think its that simple. Electronics are the single most thing that can either make a moderate setup run like a champ, or make a moderate setup run like a flop.

If you decide to run with no electronics this is what you'll be looking forward to running into.

#1--> MAP sensor issues every time you undergo boost. Throwing a MAP sensor code alone throws your ECU into a limp/safe mode.
#2--> Your spark timing will advance too radically right before undergoing boost (fauling out plugs back to back....to back!)
#3--> NO FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM! Stock injectors are insifficant alone in delivering the fuel needed to run efficently. You need an electronic piggy back or stock replacment kit. For example--> TSI's injector block (which i ran on my 02 civic), or larger injectors w/ Emanage along with injector and ignition harnesses.

Have fun running boost, running HELLA lean, and making less power than stock.

Take my word, i have 1st hand experience:

TSI's quality when it comes to fitment is quite flawed. I've read fitment issues with all kits. Nothing serious, just uneven manifold surfaces (which can be drimmled out) and then charge pipe quality. I completely reworked my kit with custom charge plumbing, larger intercooler, and only used the turbo/manifold, fuel system, and electronics from the kit (black box, etc), all else--> custom.

I ran the Garret ball bearing T25 option which was beautiful! I have videos

The only major downfall the the kit is the fuel system. It is rather difficult to tune. And needs to be tweeked quite a bit)

Ok, I beg to differ here. I have installed the TSI kit on my box. The fitment was perfect. From the manifold to the intercooler piping. The original kit they offered had some fitment issues yes.. The new kit does not need any firewall "massaging", the manifold fits perfect, and the intercooler piping is great. No need to move the washer bottle.

About when "fusionscion" wrote that he was going to get the kit minus the electronics, I am sure he meant minus the fuel system. If anyone is going to get the kit, dont bother with the fuel system. Below is what I added to my kit. You will definitley have more money into it than you think as little parts add up fast.

You also wont run into any map sensor problems as the car doesnt have a map sensor. That is the reason you cant run the fuel system that comes with the kit which has a map unit box. Get yourself a good air/fuel controller (camcon) and just be sure you have enough fuel.

This is what I added:
TSI Garrett T20
TSI intercooler and piping
Power Enterprise 160lp/h fuel pump
Perrin Fuel Rail
Power Enterprise 410cc injectors
Aeromotive Fuel Regulator
Converted to return style fuel system
CamCon
AEM UEGO

it is pretty much fully spooled at around 2500. If I am really getting on it, the motor dies out around 3200. But if I am gentle, there is a nice smooth power delivery. I have to put the new pump in tomorrow, and finish hooking up the gauges so I can do some monitoring...

dude show me the videos... lol, but when i said minus the electronics i kind of jumped the gun..... i mean tuning equipment and their injectors and their fuel pump and stuff.... but it sounds like alot of people run this kit..... is it worth the money, and what are some prices im looking at..... i just sold my rims and also my quad to help me finance a turbocharged car..... i am very new to turbos, i mean like 16 yrs old, and first turbo.... i just want it to sounds great, and perform without major fitment issues, and electronic stuffs..... does anybody in ct know of anybody who is a knowledgable installer, or even someone who has enough knowledge to help me out with the install themselfs?...... but thanks for all your help, and if you would be so kind to help me out with some more questions i have i would really appreciate it......thanks
