View Full Version : Need Opinion on Projector Headlights
scioninla 03-09-2004, 08:42 PM Need your honest opinion on these projector head lights that we are being offered an exclusive on.
The picture is a prototype and the lense and other ring is not installed.
I personally did not like the design myself but we would like to know what others think.
I requested to have the led rings around the projectors to be ribbed and the housing be gloss black (for a more JDM look).
I thought the LEDs were too big (they are not installed but they are mounted on the series of holes in the bottom. They are changeable from what I was told).
Also I asked if we can get rid of the amber lense ( not sure if it will pass DOT with out it though).
The lights will be consisted of 2 projectors and angle eyes (like the BMWs) in white (not blue like the picture shows)
Thanks in advance.
Again, please post your honest opinion so we know if we should pursue this or not.
Here is the link. Just cut and paste it to the address bar on your browser.

Scionic 03-09-2004, 08:48 PM Fugly.......that thing is going to haunt me in my sleep
PandaIst 03-09-2004, 08:49 PM It's aight....but i do agree with you adrian to have the led rings around the projectors to be ribbed and the housing be glass black (for a more JDM look).
That would look soo much nicer.
Any word if there will be xA projectors???..with black housing though.
showpaojoe 03-09-2004, 08:55 PM I think I would need to see it with the cover and the led bar. Right now it is weird to look at with the holes and the turn signal. I do like the projectors with the angel eyes.
Only leads to 2 things- how will the led look like? (like an inverted version of the pro's out right now?) and also the turn bulb. it looks kinda plain and shouldn't have the reflector in the background. is there any bulb that looks white but still shines a little amber? that would make it blend even if you have black housing
scioninla 03-09-2004, 08:55 PM Mark...let me know what design would look cool. I know that I can always rely on you..
laters..
Thanks for the replys..keep them coming
bBted 03-09-2004, 08:55 PM umm...me too i dont really like the design...what are those holes at the bottom for??
if u put two same size projectors would be nicer
Jester 03-09-2004, 08:56 PM Not feelin'em, Honestly.
scioninla 03-09-2004, 09:00 PM The holes are for the led..I think for turn signals.
I hate the design myself....and wanted them to redo it.
Keep the replies coming..Negative or positive..it's all good.
Let me have some ideas on what you want too.
JDMxB 03-09-2004, 09:06 PM Not for me...I don't know, they look like they were thrown together practically!
And, making them black would not help...I think if anything it looks more rice than "JDM".
Why can't a company make just a copy of our STOCK headlights with a good quality projector unit where the stock reflector is?!
Besk_one 03-09-2004, 09:07 PM i dont like the led holes - why can't we get some projectors that just have the 2 projector lights and the turn signal in a nice clean housing ala BMW style?
all this other junk kills the cleanness and lines of the stock headlights (which imho look tight, they really match the boxyness of the car)
my vote is for simple clean projectors, just the 2 lenses, angel eyes and a turn signal (no amber reflectors) keep it simple!!

Rhobz 03-09-2004, 09:07 PM Honestly, I dont like them. They are, for lack of a better explanation, too sporty. The xB is a box, I like the box, and these just dont seem to compliment the lines to me.
However, with some of the suggestions you guys have made in this thread, they could turn out a whole lot better.
nunspa 03-09-2004, 09:26 PM Hi!
well I think the design could work, any way for you to put it on an xB? so we can get an idea of how it will look???

tinybigrig 03-09-2004, 09:30 PM those are funky...look like belong with a certain posters wack ___ bondo body kits!

scioninla 03-09-2004, 09:36 PM Thats what we expected. I was not digging the design myself. This at least solidifies it.
I might have to tell them to go back to the drawing board and take up all the suggestions here.
Thanks for the quick response for those who replied
showpaojoe 03-09-2004, 09:54 PM Adrian, some of my messages haven't been gettin thru but I sent you a prototype.
and I agree, maybe showin them on a car would be best
ahurdl01 03-09-2004, 10:02 PM Projectors are HOT. If i ever get ahead on my payments, thats where the money will go
Mr_scion 03-09-2004, 10:06 PM i like the houseing and projecter but dont like the angles eyes
XBBOY 03-09-2004, 10:33 PM Great post Adrian, and thank everybody for your input. I don't really care what u guys think, " I like them...hahahaha j/k. yeah I agree withthe rest of you , it is a little too much, but this is just one design that was proposed to us. There will be other designs that hopefully will look alot cleaner. dunno but I kinda like the angel eye look, look pretty cool on the beemers. thanks again.
squirrel 03-09-2004, 11:08 PM Adrian,
The LEDs and the holes for them have to go. The turn signal looks like an added piece and really doesn't blend in w/ the light setup. Maybe if it sat in a seperate compartment or at least a divider? And will the housings be able to handle a higher wattage bulb or HID?
Also, the lights themselves appear to be in a housing that's too small for them. A redesign is a given. The turn signal bulb look slike its crowding into the low/high beam area.
ghost 03-10-2004, 10:21 PM The 'ricer ring' needs to be thinner and brighter. Also, make a proto in black.

Sid_xBicious 03-10-2004, 11:45 PM any plans on doing fog lights? dealer(stock) foglights cost too much, and yet i read its not that bright?
hope you consider it.

Ooh, I like that idea. Or maybe two projectors in a single housing, to match the headight?
Andrew
scioninla 03-11-2004, 12:58 AM Thanks again for the input. We told the design team what people are looking for.
I like the idea of the aftermarket fogs..I'll let them know.
Also might do a JDM style wind deflector too..
I'll be posting more updates soon...again thanks and keep the suggestions coming..
positive or negative..it's all going to be a big help for us.
Mr_scion 03-11-2004, 11:22 PM projection fog lights!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like on the lexus i would buy some!!!!!
XBman 03-23-2004, 06:09 AM Yeah maybe some projector foglamps!! those would be cool, but the Lights look like PUG eyes. they bogg out lol
its_ikon 03-23-2004, 08:16 PM the concept with the blue led is nice, but overall design needs some tweaking. maybe cover up the area around the projectors and bulbs and get rid of the holes on the bottom.
silkywilson 03-23-2004, 10:20 PM They look like the terminator..all sorts of crap just stuck onto and into them.. Jst my opinion definatly black housing... no LEDs or LED holes.. the orange corner bulb should sufice for turn signals.. maybe offset the projectors to get the BMW or "Eyelid" look.... And DEFINATLY PROJECTOR FOGS!!!
http://www.elginappraisals.com/jonah/projector.gif
Just a qucik layout... maybe the AEs would be cropped at the top.. an agressive look..[
BoomBox757 08-23-2004, 04:19 PM any word about these. if they came in black I would get them
Max2k 08-23-2004, 04:46 PM I'm not feeling it, but if you made double-projector ones with white ridged angel eyes I'd certainly think about it.
I'd seriously dig some aftermarket fogs too, the toyota ones (US or japanese) are just too damned expensive.
TRF_USA 08-24-2004, 04:01 AM My turn my turn to post a negative feed back!
Well, Adrian showed me the picture for this light a while ago... And its R2D2 style
To me it is too fancy/ricey whichever you wanna call it
The little holes on the bottom are the driving light bulbs
How do I know?? Well, I have a set of the headlight for Ford F-150 at work look exactly like that. It is the new trend that oversea people trying to do, everything LED because most luxury cars are equipped with LED lights now days.
Yes, it might be a big hit, who knows? (Just like the Altezza lights)
But I personally think it is the worst down grade you can do to an xB
I would prefer those projectors on Steve's car over this POS
KevinxB 08-24-2004, 05:22 AM Blech....too many circles. I tried to like them, I really did. But I think it would make the front of the car look like a spider. I agree with the 3 circle idea posted earlier. High beam, low beam, turn signal. Don't try crowding in fog lights or you risk making the whole thing look busy all over again, IMO.
rolex87 08-24-2004, 05:43 AM I think a 2 ring projector style is what I've been looking for for a while, but the LED's are a little over the top. But Adrian, I'd like to say one thing that I'm not seeing in this wave:
Thanks for working with companies to bring new products out to the market!!!!!!!
