Oh please, high school sophmores? 95% of high school sophmores have no taste in anything, they just go with the crowd. The other 5% lead the crowd, and that other 5% of people with actual taste and concern for practicality are buying scions.
Besides; these girls are being paid to rip on every car but those horrid hyundais (which this high school junior thinks are tres lame, lamer than a dodge neon with a huge wing and kanji symbols everywhere).

my girlfriend had a hyundai accent and it was sooooo noisy inside , had no air conditioning, felt like it was gonna lose control over 60mph, had a terrible terrible stereo in it, and no power at all. i don't think their "HIT squad" is really working very well if they think kids want hyundai accents!
i am happy that hyundai won't make something that looks like like a Scion. last thing i'd want is someone saying "oh, is that a hyundai?" about my xA.
and good luck to hyundai on trying to make a Hummer!

Exactly...They took a group of 16 year old kids who dont know isht about cars, dont have any idea how much it costs to own a car, and probably wont because their parents will buy them a 25k acura to keep em quiet. I haven't seen a "teen" focus group that liked the scions yet, but I also haven't seen a teen focus group with a combined automotive I.Q over 5 yet either so I wouldn't even bother getting upset.
BTW.... What idiot wants a fluckin Hyundai?--unless its being given to you, or you like driving in a plastic crap box. If the scions did seem popular to the company and they designed their own box, noone would buy that pos unless they relied on a group of 15 year old idiots to decide for em- it's a freakin hyundai, that's only marginally better than a kia--Not even, and thats only marginally better then driving a huffy. ____ I'd rather walk at this point. Whats next??...Is chevy gonna buy daewoo and try and pass em off as economical fuel efficient space saving econo cars for teens that end up being just another crap stain on the trousers of automotive history?.....O sorry aveo, didn't see you there.

These are kids whos parents are currently picking up the tab for thier gas costs and insurance and probably their car payments. Wait til they realize gas is gonna cost them 80 bucks a fillup for 300 miles on a damn hummer. ____, i looked at fullsize trucks, but i cant afford teh insurance or the damn gas. girls are stupid anyway when it comes to cars... as i was buying mine i overheard the service advisors joking about how one lady religously changes her oil... every 20000 miles.

Yeah... everyone has their own opinion... Most of the people I know don't like it mainly because it only has 108 horses. It doesn't bother me cause I don't care about speed I just want to go cruisin around. But don't ever let anyone get you down about your car. The car isn't there to make anyone else happy, it's to make the owner happy.
That's just how I put it if it makes any sense...

#1--I agree 100% with NemoBronsky..these kids haven't a clue when it comes to cars..Sounds like Hyundai picked them on purpose just for this forum to make themselves look better...
#2--Even if Hyundai would TRY and make a competitor to the xB, why on earth would anyone buy it when the xB is already out there? And if Hyundai would ever put anything like this to market, I think Nissan/Mitsubishi/Mazda/Honda would beat it with their own versions (Cube/eK/Spiano/That's)..Kudos to Toyota for thinking outside "the bBox" and bringing this awesome ride to the American market!

#1, Since when our demographic included 16 yr Girl.
#2, If these girl hated it? Good, i wouldn't be caught dead driving a chick car let alone a 16yr Girlz car.
#3, The following group of people should also hate the Scion; the French, Nazi, 80yr and above (Stop driving plz), Teenie Booper, French (again)
Scion is for folks who are "in" to getting more bang for their buck... Which means we have $$$$ to spend.
Asking 8 16yr girl to comment on the Scion, is soo wrong, it's like;
(Please fill in the blank)
its like taking a blind man to an ATM machine, ask them to comment about the brilled button.
its like asking a homie to comment on our consensus regarding our weekly "Quantum Mathematical" Pow Wow.

First of all...
i agree with you all... that is the stupidiest survey/investigative team i've heard of. And why did they have to choose all girls? no offense, but generally... i think males have more knowledge on cars...generally.
Secondly... i'm glad those high school airheads don't like Scion..cuz i don't want little air heads driving Scions and ruining the image.
Third, Hyundai is just using this article to create stigma ...cuz probably they're losing customer to scion buyers now.
Finally... Scion is unique as they come ...especially at the price range it's offered at.
So all those little air heads can continue to walk to school or borrow their dad's Geo Prizm.

I never thought the xb was pretty...sometimes I think it IS ugly, but I love it anyway. It has something that no other car has, some weird quality that I must be identifying with but cant really identify. Maybe I dont know why I love it exactly, but I do. Can someone cue some sentimental music? Maybe n'sync or Barry White or the equivalent-
ahem*
Scion, I've been thinking a lot about us lately... And I think its time we took it to the next level baby... Oh yeah, you make me feel so fine, I dont care what your momma says, I love you babe...and anyway, I'll make it some day, with you by my side, and then all the naysayers will know we were right...and so forth.

The XB is cheap enough and is easy to customize . It gets great gas mileage and it has a great following . So with the gas going up out of control .We have alot to be thankful for . We can still drive while the SUV'S have to stay parked. Happy campers will stay off the roads .Nothing but a blessing to Scion drivers.I cannot come up with any negitive thing about the Scion .Now for the looks it grows on you and thats all you need. We may never be able to aford a Humvee and those girls are just dreaming .Which is a natural thing with their species . Dream dream dream dream that all they are good for.

I like everything you just said. Your third point is right on... Hyundai can't stand the fact that toyota has a better quality, more identifiable, competing vehicle in the form of the scion family. They can't build cars for shiiz, and they're not very good at making a cheap ploy to use the vehicles target demographic against it either. All in all I just think it says more about why we bought or can't wait to buy a scion.

LOL I like how they always pick people who have no clue what a car costs or who makes it, maybe they will care if it is a domestic of an import when they own a import and it breaks and creeks and rattles all the time and is so plain jane. I prob knew more about cars and so on when I was 7 then they will ever know. And for Hyundai, well they are just sucky, my mom has a Sonato that I drove a few days when she left it at my appt to go to the airport, had anough plastic wood in there, that looked sobad and plasticly, no power and it was just plain ugly. I am glad that lil girls dont want this car, dont want it to be like the celica or my eclipse(both womens cars). I want a unique car, thats why we are getting orange and doing unique stuff to it, I dont want a camry or accord or sonata or civic.

i read that article a couple of weeks ago on the trib. there are a couple of items that first must be addressed. 1) the study groups' opinions clearly lack any external validity -- meaning that pretty much all their comments are limited to that specific group and not the targeted demographic that Scion is after. 2) the girls from glenbrook south are from a rather upscale/affluent community here in illinois where bimmers are the hondas for them. and finally (perhaps most importantly) 3) hyundai's interest in the whole scion thing runs much deeper. hyundai has even commissioned the designer that penned the xB! ladies and gents, meet the neos-II which was unveiled at this years tokyo auto show. it is obvious that hyundai is very serious in entering the scion market (as is mazda) and wants to find scion's secret to its success.

I think its safer for these girls if they DON'T buy scions... I knew more than one girl that by 18 has totalled a suburban on city streets... just distrubing.
I heard a girl one time talking in class back when I was in high school about her oil light coming on... she got tired of looking at it so she fixed it....... by putting a post-it over it. Romey and Michelle would be proud!
Still another HS girl i knew ran out of gas after she got a new car becuase she thought wen it came with gas new it didnt need anymore.
The hardest part about this... these girls will more than likely reproduce. Society may just be doomed.
I know all ladies out there are as clueless as the few i just mentioned... i was just reinforcing the point (that everyone has made) that the girls were perhaps the worst to question because their opinions will change as soon as the new MTV cribs episode feature Britneys pad with the pimped out Xb (and inevitably this prob will happen).

I went from a Hyundai Accent ( 2001 ) to the RS1. I can tell you that the 5 speed was really quick off the line, because there wasnt any weight to it. It rode like a tin can on wheels, very stiff, and noisey inside, but she would get up and go. I bought it cause i needed a cheap form of transportation at the time, and ended up selling it privately, seeing as how the dealer was only offering me $1,100 for it on trade. That was in mint condition, with 16K miles.
