NEWBIE has air intake questions...
The tc is my first real 'tuner' car, so I am completely green about these things.
I was considering replacing the air filter box with a new intake...I did my homework on the differences between a cold-air system and a short-ram, and had a few questions (sorry for being so wordy):
1. The short ram appeals more because it's easier to install... but living in Florida, and also noticing how hot the VVTI engine gets, I was wondering about the reality of a short ram on a tc...I would think a short ram would be sucking in lots of hot air. Has anyone installed one? Have you noticed any changes in performance? Did you do anything to try to cut down on the heat?
2. The AEM and K&N cold-air intakes require that the filter be placed near the wheel well... which means having to remove the tire and plastic from the wheel well. I was wondering if this meant that everytime you wanted to clean or change your filter, it would require removing the tire and wheel well again, or is there another way to access the filter?
3. Is it possible to just modify the cold-air intake and have the tubes heading towards the front of the car, placing filter behind the radiator?
Thanks again...sorry if my questions are stupid, like I said, I'm new at this... and yes I did do searches and tried to find as much info as I could before posting
