Pretty good explanation, I understand what you're going to do...what I don't understand is why you would hack up a $200 intake just to do it...If I were you, I'd get some mandrel bends from JC Witney and just make an intake myself.

How exactly would it pull cold air? If I understood you correctly, what you will have is basically a short ram intake, with a cold air pipe sitting in its usual location but without a filter. I honestly doubt any cool air will get sucked in.

yeah, that's not going to do anything. you'll be much better off making or buying a box to seal the short ram from the engine heat.

it wont do nothing?...i mean at high speads, air will flow through the hole, in through the tube, leading straight to the filter which will suck in the colder air....have u tried it?

if you removed the plastic piece in the lower grill and fabricated a seal so that the air was forced to go through the tube, you would get air to the filter. however, even if you did all that, the filter will still be getting cold air from only one small section of it's radius. the other 90% of the filter will be getting hot air from the engine compartment.
and to answer your question directly, yes i did try this at one point many years ago. trust me, expend your time, energy, and money on something else. this is a dead end.

Not to mention that most of the gains from an intake come from increased air velocity and a smoother route to the throttle body, not from 'cold air.'

Damn 200 bucks for a cold air that your gonna hack? This was my experiment with some extra pipes from a Ford Mustang GT Intake + A corolla intake (it has the same thing to connect the MAS to).

YES I SUCK AT WIRING, but the intake works and so does the ____ty wiring.
