Default Effects of putting the car away for winter?

Hi everyone, I am still waiting for my xB to come in from Japan but I do plan on putting it away for the winter months (Winters here are harsh and do a number on cars)

first question is does anyone do this, and if there is no access to a garage what is the best way to store it.

Secondly, is there any negative affects to doing this, and if so is there a solution for it?

I appreciate your time.

You can get a car cover, which will help keep the finish in shape.

You're going to want to start it up and run it for a few minutes every month to keep the battery charged.

Other than that, I can't really think of anything you'd need to do.

Fuel stabilizer is probably a good idea.

Gas does go bad after a couple months and rubber lines will dry out. I'd say to park it with low fuel. Find a nicer day every month (if you have one without snow) and run it for several miles. If you do end up hitting some salt, wash it off. Turn the A/C on for several minutes. The A/C is a good idea even for those who drive all winter. Add a little fuel when necessary. Fuel stabilizer is good.

My intentions were that he would run the car enough each month to deplete any fuel in the tank. I think you are right, this was just a tip I caught somewhere. You might get some info from here:

Do make sure to run (and preferably drive) the car to circulate some fluid in those rubber lines.

evolution makes a great car cover for the xb it fits like a glove and comes in 3 colors,,i paid ..........$149.00 for it , but you gotta tell them if you need it to fit with the spoiler than it will cost you $169.00, it covers the car bumper to bumper and has the side view mirror covers as well,,,,,great thing to maintain your precious cargo..............

I'm not a fan of fuel additives for anything.. if it were me, I'd drain the tank, and possibly the filter.

Not worth it to me, unless you were to have to store the car for an extended period of time. If it's just getting parked, stabilize and run periodically. I am very particular about what goes on and in my car, and I'd be OK with this stuff, provided I ran it at least once a month, and for more than several miles. I figure any damage in starting the car many times in extreme conditions would be overcome by not starting it daily in freezing temps and running some fuel stabilizer. It's the lesser of two evils.
