I am going into college next year and am looking for a car that has good gas mileage, insurance prices, and still a sence of style. The xb is the car i have beem looking at for a while.

The car itself seems affordable but what about insurance?

I am 18 yrs old with not even a parking ticket on my record, honor role discount*, and this will be an add on to my parents policy.

What rates do you think i would get?

there's a lot of variables here, but when I was in the same situation when I first got my xb. I paid about 100 per month, so you can figure somewhere in that ballpark.

I don't think anyone can give you a real price, but for me I just realized I pay less in insurance than I do for my 97 subaru. That tells me they are on the cheap end of the insurance scale.

yeah, i pay less for my 2005 then I did for my 98 Accord. I think Scion's are cheap in general because their so new that the insurance companies haven't figured out a correct price relative to Scion's beauty, style, and desirability. Love my Scion.

how long have you been driving? for full coverage with decent limits i'd guess around 210 a month.

Currently I drive a 1997 dodge intrepid that is concidered a Sports Sedan since it has the upgraded 3.5 l engine and the cherry red paint job. Before now my parents have been the one with the title in ther name and car on their policy. I was just another driver on their policy.

Right now i am waiting to test drive a xb (almost none on a scion dealers lot in all maryland, with the execption of rockville who doesn't ansere their phones. ) Hopefully that should happen monday.

Just keep the good comments coming so my nervous parents start liking the idea more.
thanks

I have been safly deiving for over 2 years now and would probably get the average plan. Average= not too little coverage and not too much

When I first looked for a car it was about 2,400 dollars every six months, but that was for a 2005 dodge neon. After that I started to look into cheaper cars and it was 1,800 for a 91' toyota camry. Losing my head I just went to take a look at the scions and the rate was 1,050 for the xA. You bet I went with the xA and after a year and some it went down to 635. It all depend in the company for sure. Mine is USAA wich is for military people but there are some cheap ones out there like country state. I,m 22 by the way, first time with insurance and a clean record. I hope that helps.

I'm paying less on my 05 xB than I was on my 96 Civic EX. It came out to about $30 less per month for the same coverage.

That's good.

More importantly, you should actually call your parents insurance company (you will likely be able to get an actual quote if not a general estimate=much more accurate than asking a forum full of people to make a lot of guesses and generalizations). Gve them the make, model, year, etc of the vehicles you are looking at. It will also depend on the zip code of the city you will be residing in as it will vary.
(ex. My insurance went up quite a bit when I registered it in the city, as opposed to a small town) I would also imagine it would depend on the level of coverage. (Lenders often require comprehensive insurance on the vehicle until paid off, whereas you might only legally have to have Liability if the car is free and clear)
Best of luck

im in the exact same sitatuation as you.
im 18, no crashes or tickets, good grade discount (I got Farmers Ins.) and everything is perfect. I'm under my parents insurance and the bill is $208 a month.

Oddly enough, thats considerably lower than what I had found I liked.
Sebring- $280
Alero- $295
SRT-4- $430 < (which if I ever decided to drop the Scion, is what I'm going with)

Of course prices range from state to state, but this if for Nebraska. Hope this helps

Holy crap, some of you are paying WAY to much for insurance!

I am 21, I have state farm insurance, and they give a good student discount for a 3.0 or higher untill you reach 25.

I pay $77 a month for my 05' xB- zero deduct on colision and $100 for vandalizm.

AND, it is under my own policy.....

I'm 28 and my wife and i have full coverage on two vehicles - my xb and her dodge dakota pickup. We pay 150.00 a month and that's after an accident and a speeding ticket I received in my crappy old 5.0 mustang (before I sold it).
