Those Georgia boys brought some BIG egos out here when they came for the photo shoot, but they can back up a lot of their trash talking with a lot of knowledge! Regardless of what you think of the overall package, you have to appreciate the work that went into that build. There are a lot of details that most people wouldn't notice unless they were pointed out:
The rear trailing arm was extended so the wheel sat square in the opening when it laid out.
The rear door jambs were re-contoured for wheel clearance, and the door shell to match!
The underhood was amazing- raised strut towers, bypassed power steering (the pulley hit the cv shaft), integrated strut bar, big Stinger alternator
Everywhere you look, the job was done RIGHT- as much as I wanted to find something to nitpick, I just couldn't do it!
The challenge is out to everyone in Cali- build one better and dethrone these good ol' boys!

I didn't read any of the "flaming posts" so I can't comment on that, I can only comment on what I know. Here is a copy of my post from another thread regarding the cover of Mini Truckin'...
First things first...the guys at PTAP/Autowerks aren't cocky. They have pride in what they do, and they do it well. So maybe to some that might come off as cocky.
Phil and I had dinner with Jimmy and his wife during their trip down to the photo shoot; they are very nice people and were a pleasure to meet. It took a lot of hard work and time to roll this vehicle out, and not to mention the fact they spent hours and hours at the shop everyday trying to get this done in a 5 week time frame.
The owner of the vehicle Jason Gamache (the owner of PTAP), and Jimmy Boykin (the owner of Autowerks), and everyone that laid hands on this car deserve a lot of credit. I takes a lot to keep up in the auto industry and to make sure that you always have business rolling in. You know they did a good job at making a one off vehicle when people out there say that they don't like it, and that it looks weird. Besides, isn't that the whole point of fabrication...to have something total unique and original?
Anyways...
Phil and the guys at FBI got their copies of the Mini Truckin' today, and I can say without a doubt that it is awesome. The there is a blurb in the Paper Cuts section (letters) with a picture of Boxzila on page (YAH!), a write up of the Scion xB on page 20-22, and the cover story of the Green Limetime Scion on pages 50-54, also there is a full page ad on the last page with a white Scion on it. This issue is screaming Scion xB, I hope everyone takes time to check it out and to see for themselves what a one off Scion truly looks like.
Oh well, thats my opinion.

I don't want to step on any toes here, clearly a large amount of time, effort, work, and money went into that car. However most of us can agree on the fact that it's ____ ugly, plain and simple.
When will people wrap their heads around the concept that huge shiny rims and lowering springs do not make a car look good?
The work done on that interior is truly impressive, but seriously; would you design your bedroom like the interior of that car?
I might be coming at this from a different angle than most of you people, but just because you can do something doesn't mean you [i]should[/] do something; especially with cars. I believe this concept goes by the name of "taste." One can have a technical wonder without taste or an extremely beautiful, yet useless object. It's those items that are both beautiful and funtional that we remember.
[/brutal honesty]
Once more, I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. It's not my call what people do with their automobiles, hopefully they'll do things that make themselves happy. I just sometimes want to ask "why?"

If your passion is lowriders, take the car you like and airbrush murals on it and throw on some spokes.
If your passion is old rat rods, break out the flat black rattlecan and Von Dutch pinstripe that beeyatch.
And if you're a minitrucker, lay that car on its balls, put some bags on it, and shave and paint the crap out of it!
I'm a minitrucker by trade, but I can respect all forms of auto enthusiasm. I dig a ride that's well thought out and creative, and can appreciate good work when I see it. Just because you don't like a color scheme, or the fabric, or the big shiny wheels, don't hate!
Judge not, lest ye be judged... what have you done to your Scion lately?

I dont know if big rims are bad, but i happen to be to young, so i like the big rim thing, but my dad is an old time hot rodder and i cant lie, his 36 ford 5 window coupe has 15 inch yellow steel rims with 35inch rear tires and 22 tires on the front, and its so damn cool. And he can light them up on the highway with the 427 under the hood. problem is, it handles like a refridgerator. To each there own, big rims and turbos are in, a few years back it was big blocks and drag tires.

Please, there is no "challenge" out to anyone out in the left coast--SE as well as TSW has more than proved that we own, as far as this east vs west crap...don't even start that up.
When I look at a car like that, I say--too much money, too little taste. Anyone that is rich up the ___ can just drop their car off to a shop, and let them go nuts on it to their hearts content. It takes originality, as well as personal work to get a thumbs up in my book.
Here is a challenge to YOU...why don't you ask him how much the owner PAID someone to do his car up like that. Post the amount of money he paid to get his car like that, and I'd be willing to bet--if you gave me that much to throw into my 14k car, I'd be on the cover of Import Tuner, Super Street, as well as Sport Compact Car.
EDIT--i guess the owner owns his own custom minitruck shop or whatever...gee, i wonder how i got it all done.
Most of us are just regular people, with regular jobs--too bad you big boys who own shops and such have to be so full of yourselfs.

Look, what I'm saying is that you may think it's ugly, buy you have to respect Jimmy and the crew at Autowerks for the work that went into it. You don't have to like it, but you also don't have to bash it just because they have the money to do it. The guy with the Fabulous kit on his thundercloud xB had the money to get the kit, but I'm not hating on him 'cause he has the $$ and I don't.
I'm also not saying you should "bow down to the East coast" or anything like that... The West coast is definitely still the best coast, and nothing will ever change that!
But to bash the PTAP Scion just because they had an unlimited budget is missing the point entirely. If you're going to do that, then you better hate on every Sema vehicle at the show, because that's how you get attention for a shop.
Just my $.02- i'll get off my soapbox now!

Not every car at SEMA sent mail to TSW, nor posted on this forum bragging about their car being better than everyone elses. Simple as that.
How do you brag about your car when you have unlimited funds to build it?
That's like Bill Gates going around with the fastest computer in the world, and branging about it. It's just stupid.

As a car guy that work is bad a$$ . Lets just get over this high school chit and move on. Some of the stuff being said is the same chit as when LJ's

is my OPINION. Personally I think that ____ is tight. It looks like an incredible amount of engineering. That ____ dont come easy (maybe to the guy with all the money) but definately not to the guys who obviosly spent some long nights on it.
I think its good for our Hobby that shops with the money are putting out full blown

would suicide the rear doors. (any sponsers :) I wish.......

This is ridiculous, no one is calling anyone out, and I don't care if you live on the West Coast, East Coast, Canada, Japan, Mexico, or Mars for that matter; can't people just agree to disagree? All that was meant by the "dethroning" comment from Phil was let’s see another xB on the cover of another magazine; whether it is an import mag, or a truck mag. Also, everyone keeps talking about how they had unlimited funds...if you close your shop for almost 5 weeks the money stops coming in...but hey when you own your own business you have to spend money to make money.
Case in point, we have friends that own a Subaru shop, they are up to their eye balls in a car that they are building for an all Subaru track day. This car will make or break them, but when you own a business it is all about getting your name out there by doing something one off. Whether or not everyone likes your work is part of life, and we all know how the saying goes...Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one and at times they all stink.

I like the green xB. Though it's not really my style, much respect for the work that was put into it.
There should be another Scion xB that will grace the cover of another magazine...can't wait for that one to come out......that one is even sicker than this one in my own personal opinion...they were on a bigger budget on that one but all the work was done in house, from the paint to the glass....I mean everything. They also got some sponsors to kick down on that car..I am sure you might guess what xB I am talking about....just wait and see it on the cover of a particular magazine..that one, like the Green xB will blow you away....I am sure there are some that are gonna hate on it..but that's how it's always have been....
