if anyone pulled out a loan to buy a turbo kit, isn't very smart.

I'm just using the money that I'm saving up working this summer (almost 2 grand) plus the $1,400 that my dad owes me. After that I'll just do odd-jobs, get a parental-loan, and/or skip a few meals over the next month to get the rest. :silly:

I'm gonna feel so empty once I see all that money gone... but so full when I'm walking over my friend's cars.

If you seriously have to save up for a turbo, you shouldn't be buying one in the first place.

Why do you say that?? Really how many people have that kind of money layin around. You would have to save some at least.

If you dont have the money to pay for a mod in cash dont get it. Piggy banks really do wonders, i saved up 300 dollars but that was back before i discovered this little thing called shopping. That money is all tucked away in my bank and stuck in there until im 18.

Um, use a credit card. If you don't have one...give the money to someone that does and have them order it for you. Protect yourself.

Money order, cash, check  ...if by chance something happens...you're toast.

work hard and save money like wowguytc. working hard for the money and earning it yourself is the way to go. better than those rich spoiled kids that can get one from mom and dad!

if you can just barely afford the turbo, then what happens with the engine blows up due to detonation? or a part fails causing problems?

either way, how many of you guys actually have turbos on your car that you have paid for?

I have a salary, and I still have to save up for a turbo. It's not like going to the store and buying a pack of gum you know.

And don't count out those people who are actually sponsored. I would say their are more people able to afford such expenses because they are sponsored, and not because they are rich.

Rich people = 600+ hp Supras, Vipers, Vettes, etc...

Kids on a budget + sponsored = turbo TC, Civic, Neon, Eclipse, etc..

Save up cash, slap the turbo on the credit card for security reasons and pay the damn card off before interest attacks.

I put the scionspeed stage 2 turbo ($3600), 18" Axis reverbs with falken azenis tires ($1850), tein s-techs ($160 +$60 install), clutchmasters fx400 ($360 + $250 install), lightweight flywheel ($330), + greddy spec B boost controller ($300)on my credit card. Yes thats about $7000 of debt from mods on my credit card, and in 3months I already lowered my debt to $1500 while paying about $1000 in regular bills monthly. Keep in mind Im 19 and work in a craphole hardware store and dont make too much money. So dont give me excuses that its too expensive, because if theres a will theres a way.

Guess that is what you gotta do, sacrifice other things like eating out and expensive clothes to get the big things.

IMO: if you have to worry about how to pay for a turbo, don't even think about doing it.

I didn't word what I said properly. What I mean is that if you have to seriously save up for a turbo, you should not get it. Meaning, if you worked over the summer, took 80% of what you earned and used that for a turbo, you are not doing a smart thing. If you were saving for it for more than a few months, you are not doing a smart thing. What would be smart is if lived your life like usual, and had as much money as usual, but carved out a little chunk of your paycheck to pay for the turbo in several months.

It seems that most people who go turbo have to pay it off on their credit card with financing charges, or they live their life around the turbo savings.

pay it with your credit card. A lot of credit cards offer 0% interest for a year or 2.99 for life of the loan. It is much better than if it was part of your financing.

LOL... not everyone lives with mom and dad and/or live in the ghetto, paying $150 a month for rent. hahahaha

the boost learning curve is steep and expensive. Many people can afford to be fast, but very few can be fast for long.

I put 3 turbos on my car within a month, mostly because I didn't realize that the snail doesn't like 40+ lbs of oil pressure pushed through it, and it will spit the seals out if you don't regulate this.

I will say that I'm a 32 year old married guy with no kids and a lot of disposable income, so I'm a poor example of how to afford a turbo. I dropped 4 grand on my AEM EMS and Uego wideband with tuning, and had Bensons sleeve my block all at the same time last summer.
