I recently registered at NewCelica.org because my g/f bought a Celica GT and i see that most of the Celica owners don't think much of our cars.
I understand that we'll get walked by a GTS in a race but the GT owners say they'll beat us too.

I don't understand how that would be possible. Anyways, what do you think ...the tC or the Celica (GT) in a race?

Newcelica.org is full of morons. Those GT owners are absolutely full of crap. My fiance has an '01 GT and I hate driving it after being in my car, it feels SO SLOW (because it is). He refuses to race me in it because he knows better.

 

My girl and I just got a GT this weekend. =)

Stock GT has tighter suspension, quicker turn in, no delay on the throttle, and possibly better brakes. The GT is definitely NOT quicker then the tC however.
Both are very nice cars though and I would drive either... well, of course I'd drive a GTS not a GT, but she doesn't drive like I do so she doesn't need a very fast car.

The GT and the GTS are actually slower than you might think at first, because most of their hp are at much higher rpms than the tC. That being said, the GTS has a nice 6 spd, weighs less, and has a much higher rev limit. The tC and GTS/GT are very different cars, considering how stiff and compact the Celica is... the tC is somewhat of a muscle car in comparison, which is a laughable thing to say of the tC. The bottom line is GT = slow, tC = good low end slightly mushier handling, GTS = good high end, stiff handling. I have a feeling if you are talking about engine potential and performance/cost the tC will win hands down though.

What I don't get is why these Celica guys even care if they can "walk" a TC...I mean, these aren't race cars and my TC has plenty of power. Celicas look stupid and per the Toyota dealer I got my Scion from nobody is buying them (I said "I'm not into those Celicas" and the guy said "yeah, neither is anybody else.") I think the Celica is going bye-bye, right? Well it wouldn't be if it were such a great car.

 

They are cool cars. However, the GT will not outrun a tC, and the GTS will... barely. It is a drivers race, but then again all races are to an extent. I think they are cool.. and they handle very well. But I liked the tC better.

But, just buy one of each and you will be set

 

When people are going through puberty, they feel the need to compete with others over everything. When they get their first car, be it a tC, a Celica, or whatever their moms and dads buy them, they feel that their car must be the fastest on the block, because that is the epitome of cool. According to these people, a car is composed of two things: horsepower, and big rims. The bigger the rims and the more horsepower a car has, the better.

Right...but I guess what I was saying is that if you were all about horsepower and wanted to brag on that aspect you'd be in a whole different range of car. For instance, a black Mustang 5.0 five-speed that makes 350 horsepower at the wheels on all motor...parts are dirt cheap and the sky is the limit (without worries about a factory warranty and for about ten grand less.)

Well if you want a racing car I wouldn't get anything with a 4 cylinder engine. Then where are you gonna race it? I hope not on the street, if so I hope a cop takes away your license before you kill someone else (don't car if you kill yourself if your stupid enough to race a car on the freeways.) If you're not gonna race then who cares what would win? Get the car that rides, handles, and looks the best.

Performance is good, but how many people actually race their cars? I have done some mods on my new TC, but not to the extent that I will be racing people. I bought the TC because I think it is a hot car, by far it beats the ugly Celica. It drives nice and has more than enough power for me. My car is for show, not for speed....so it doesn't matter who is faster. I think the TC is by far a nicer looking car though.

Ive owned a 2000 Celica Gt manual, a 2001 Celica Gt auto, and have alot of time in my sisters 2001 Celica GTS auto.

I love my 3,000 pound 2.4 liter TC engine over the
stripped down 2,500 pounds being strung along on a 1.8 liter screaming like hell will break loose engine.


Also, with a lousy 100 dollar TRD sway bar my suspension is just as nice.
Once the car is dropped on TRD springs, I can think of ZERO reasons to choose a celica over TC, unless they are taking serious mega huge discounts off toyotas. : )

 

thats a pretty bad ___ celica. I really like the celica's front, very agressive yet it still looks nice. However, the rear is nothing more that 3 rectangles. 2 for brake lights and one big huge box between them. Kills the whole car IMO.
