View Full Version : Any big guys drive a xB?
Ralphus 03-12-2004, 12:52 PM I'm looking for a car, but every car I like is around or above $30k. That's impractical for me right now since I already have a truck, I really just need something that gets good gas mileage, and looks cool.
I thought the xB would be a good choice, but I'm 6'4" 260lbs. Just wondering if I'll fit, and how small are they up close? I'd probably get some 19's or something so I/it wouldn't look so goofy.
DJ_X_Trodinaire 03-12-2004, 01:13 PM best way
go to your nearest scion dealer and test drive
CBSIMONSEZ 03-12-2004, 01:14 PM Although i dont have my xB as of yet, i did fit just fine when i went for a test drive. You should go to a local dealer and try it out. I would think that the Scion line is everywhere by now. In the drivers seat, with a baseball cap on, i still had plenty of head room. I do believe that there is one other owner here that is approx. 6'3" and about 250#, he said he fits no problem.
<== 6'2" @ 245#
Ralphus 03-12-2004, 01:18 PM I'm just asking before I go because I live out in the sticks and I'd hate to make a long drive for nothin'!
Thanks for the replies so far...
The thing is I have to get a Toyota because I get friends and family discount since I know someone who works for the importer. I don't know how much it'll be on a Scion, but she did say it applies to them as well.
I don't really dig the Corolla or Matrix for economy, that's why I'm looking at the box.
I suppose I could wait for tC, but I really want something soon...
Docsnuff 03-12-2004, 01:42 PM I am 6'2 240 and I fit just fine, it is a nice roomy cabin, I think the seats could be adjusted a little bit, but that is easy!

House_Of_Steel 03-12-2004, 01:42 PM You will be surprised of the amount of interior room / we seen the XB at a local auto show and feel in live with it ... I am 6'2" / 240 lbs .... My wife is also tall 6', not sure of her weight ...... But we both sat in the front and also the back and there is more than enough room .... we also have 2 kids who have more than enough room as well .....
I took 3 older folks with me to my dealer - had them sit in the back seat and they thought it was comfortable ....
YOU WILL LOVE IT ( Make sure to wear a cowboy hat )
ahurdl01 03-12-2004, 01:53 PM I am 6'1" 260. I got a lot of space. Its no caddilac but i got height to spare and i can even have a passenger behind me in the back. I wouldnt go with 5 people like me, but a few is ok.
EVILDAVE 03-12-2004, 01:58 PM 6'1 220lbs and I love mine it has more leg and head room in front and back then my Chevy crew cab did.
Hate_adict 03-12-2004, 02:07 PM When you see it in person for the first time you're probably be surprised at how tiny of a car it is compared to all the other big Toyota cars around it on the lot. But sitting is is a total surprise. Try it out, it's worth the drive.
showroom 03-12-2004, 02:16 PM you can always go to a place that does wheel chair customizations for vans and get them to put extenders on the chair rails for about $250 to give you more leg room. there is this cool guy who comes around the dealership that used to play basketball in italy, i think he is 7' tall and he is looking at an xB too. loves the room compared to his old matrix that he traded in with 700 miles.
Yoshi 03-12-2004, 02:27 PM I'm 6'5" and fit great, of course I have a frame like an 18 year old girl.
The leg position is much more upright than I am used to in my Volvo, but it's plenty comfortable. Drover from LA to Denver in two days with no complaints.
jonbee 03-12-2004, 03:03 PM i'm 6'2 220 and i drive my xb fine and unbelievably enough my dad, 6'1 210 can sit behind me comfortably in the rear. xb is awesome!
DeanCouchey 03-12-2004, 03:37 PM I am 6'4" and a half  and a bit heftier then most, we could say an offensive line backer size and I fit in that car great!!!! I have plenty of head room, plenty of arm room and I can sit in the back and my knees wont hit the front seat even with it all the way back!
doctorcue 03-12-2004, 03:44 PM This is all you need to know:
The average entry-level compact car has 42.1 inches of front legroom, while the average full-size van has 40.6. Some of the biggest SUVs, such as Hummer H2 and Ford Excursion, have less front legroom and headroom than the Scion xB compact car from Toyota.

ProjectFusion 03-12-2004, 03:57 PM before I did my test drive a nice 6'2 300+ guy was doin his test drive and he didn't look to be uncomfortable. Plus the shocks held up really well.
captain_barkey 03-12-2004, 04:02 PM 6'0 and weigh around 320, fit perfectly
I'm 6'4", 260 lbs, somewhat muscular, not too pudgy except around the waist ....(sigh, love handles...)
and I fit perfectly in an Element!!! That's what you really need!!!!
hahaha, j/k
I didn't test drive an Xb, but I have sat in it and it will be just fine for you if that's your main concern. More than enough of headroom and leg room...although people will come in all shapes and sizes so this is no guarantee.
Yoshi 03-12-2004, 05:45 PM Uh, you don't need an Element. I actually really like it, went to test drive one and to my great surprise my three plus feet of legs were crammed into the dash. I had to lean to the left to get the clutch to disengage.
Amazing lack of front leg room for a vehicle its size.
bettysman 03-12-2004, 07:48 PM I'm 6'7", 240 pounds and love my xB. It's the first car I have fit in. Leg room is not overly ample but adequate. Besides, you are sitting high (and still have lots of head room).
I have even more headroom with a Recaro seat.
silkywilson 03-12-2004, 08:38 PM 6'4" 295# and I got all the room I need and then some.. even in the back seat... kinda nutso when you look at the xB from the outside then I get out...

Yoshi: I'm assuming you're talking about the E...otherwise you wouldn't be making much sense if you were talking about the xB. But yeah...the location and size of the dash has been an issue with the E. Tall people like me fit into it just fine...others have problems.
Same can be said of the xB, tho. You just can't tell till you sit in it.
Ralphus: Best advice is to go test drive it even if you do live out in the boonies. You can only get so much info about this concern from all of our thoughts. But concensus seems to say you'll fit just fine.
WagenMaster 03-12-2004, 09:19 PM I'm 6'5" and 300lbs. with a large frame and even though I haven't gotten my xB yet I've test driven a few and the room is great. Headroom is not a problem at all, nor is legroom. The seats hug at the sides.
Now the xA, that's another issue....
saken4 03-13-2004, 02:55 AM Im a fat ___ and fit fine in the xb. That is why i like the car so much.
Toy_xbox 03-13-2004, 03:37 AM I'm 6'0 280+ and I had three co-workers at 6' + all of them 240+ cruising with me we were all comfortable, everyone was surprised with all the room it had and that it could still get up and go for the 108+ HP...
MicroMachine04 03-13-2004, 04:47 AM My husband is 6'3 250. He fits perfect .
Nathant888 03-14-2004, 12:54 AM I am 6 feet 196 I there is plenty of room front and back. More than my moms Minivan. I would not worry about looking funny in it . No matter how large or small u are, some people just take the xB as a "weird" car :?

NuEraGraphiXB 03-14-2004, 06:41 AM wow,i thought i was gonna help the guy,but 30 frakin posts, looks like model resumes."yes,im 6'5 295 lbs, and i like long walks on the beach, chocolate covered strawbeeries and butterflies"HAHAHAHA
but i AM 6'5 295 and i have plenty of room, but you really have to sit up straight without jammin your knees into the dash.but pretty comfy...........
NuEraGraphiXB 03-14-2004, 06:43 AM my friend is 6'8 and like 400 lbs and he sat in mine,(poor baby,i heard her crying)now he wants one because he could actually fit in it.
MADD1 03-14-2004, 05:56 PM I'm 6'"5" 350lbs and I love it. It's a little short on leg room but not a problem for me.
levans5 03-14-2004, 06:31 PM hey just wanted to let you know that I was going through the same problem you are. I am 6'6" and 350 lbs. I thought the same thing that I wouldn't be able to fit in anything. But the XB is great for me. I have a hot lava RS coming in supposedly tomorrow. And I fit great in it. But you have to make your own opinions about whether or not you can fit.
sml27 03-14-2004, 07:02 PM Just wanted to let you know your not going to get any discount because you know somebody who works there. Thats the deal with scion the price you see is what youll be paying (except for tax and licence plate) . Go to there web site and have fun designing one for your self then print it out and bring it to your dealer and thats it.
xBizzle 03-14-2004, 07:14 PM I'm 6'2" 200 lbs. Probably have 6" of headroom, and I can easily fit behind the front seat when it's all the way back. Front seatbacks are a little narrow for me, crowds the wings if you know what I mean.

It's a friends and family discount (like with a code and all that, different than a dealership discount), price will be below invoice. It's not somebody who works for the dealership, it's a person I know who works for Toyota and stocks the dealerships.
The thing is it's up to the dealer to honor it and deal with the hassle. Most will though since they won't want me to report them back to Toyota for not honoring it.
Yoshi 03-15-2004, 04:39 PM Sorry, yes I was talking about the E. I was completely speechless when I sat in it and couldn't fit behind the dash. I am wondering if the lack of front seat room is why the "active" lifestylers are shying away from it. I don't know many snowboarders out here who are short.
Guy at the Honda dealership said 5 of seven buyers of the E at his shop were women in their 40s.
JESSR 03-15-2004, 05:42 PM  [/quote]
JESSR 03-15-2004, 05:43 PM IM 6'3 284 LBS AND I JUST GOT MY LAVA XB.....GREAT ROOM...IT HAS MORE ROOM THAN MY ACURA RL......
levatino 03-15-2004, 10:57 PM 8" thick
Fits me great!
